Grand Hotel la Pace

I was pretty careful - checking the Trip Advisor reviews before we booked this hotel and I would say they give a very good description. We stayed one week b and b. Its not 5 star more kind of Faux 5 star - but the reception staff were outstanding the chambermaid was smiley and really efficient with our room and the restaurant staff were cheery and busy. The head waiter didn't smile much but the rest made up for it. Breakfast was fine (not brilliant but fine) with freshly made pancakes being the best! There was complimentary champagne (sure it would have been fizzy wine) on the buffet table every morning for those wishing for an 11am hangover. The shuttle bus was perfectly on time and a fantastic way to get into Sorrento (less than 10 mins). Its lovely to be out of the busyness of Sorrento but you are so close in a suburb Sant'Agnello with its own wee restaurants and train station to Naples, Pompeii etc. I would absolutely stay here again, felt very clever for having found it and would also say all the other guests seemed happy. My top tip would be a) get a room with a sea view and b) get a real person guide to take your round Pompeii.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back look out onto a broken down old two storey, really crumbled building and the h...

Overall, we had a fantastic stay. The service we received was fantastic and the room was immaculate. The good night cookies were also a nice touch.

I would happily stay here again.

I have stayed in this hotel with my husband for 5 nights on b&b basis. We expected a little more from the five star accomodation. The rooms are clean and spacious enough, but nothing more. The decor of the hotel and rooms is an exhibition iof tacky color schemes and kitschy lamps and details, all in atempt to imitate some form of luxury, but actually achieving a ridiculous impression. Staff was polite and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, catering every taste. Swimming pool is much to small and shallow for such a high rated hotel. Shuttle bus was a good addition to the service. One evening we decided to have dinner at the hotel, we chose complete menu, and it failed to impress, I have to say. Bed is a little hard. But I also have to mention how you do not get a double bed, it is only two beds pushed toghether. Also, having made a reservation through an internet site and taking a special offer, I have a feeling they gave us a room with the ugliest view they had. Fitness "center" is small, but functional, and it has a jacuzzi and sauna. Jacuzzi seemed to be needing a thourough cleaning.
It does not have a garden, not enough plants and greenery. The views form the terrace are lovely, but this is a big defect.
Overall, comfortable but average. If you are not over-demanding, you could give it a try, but I do not believe that I will return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view.

We have seen many hotels in Sorrento and you really must have luck with it. La Pace has many good luck factors : an excellent choice at breakfast, a parking ( very important) good airconditioned rooms, a nice swimming pool , a lot of chairs around the pool with a good towel service, a very practical shuttle, ......... but 5 stars is a little bit too much. Let's say 4 and that's more realistic. But I am sure one of the best hotels in the environment; Yo must try it out and you will be convinced !

Room Tip: you must prefer seaside !

Billed as a five star hotel, this probably falls short of that, but not by much. Beautiful entrance and lobby backed up by a very warm welcome. The room we were allocated was fine - not brillliant but good enough. Size wise it was OK, the air conditioning was good and there was a fridge. Bath robes and slipers were provided as well. The room was well cleaned daily. I don't knnow how often the bedding was due to be changed but when we wanted the sheets changed we took them off the bed and when we got back to our room we had fresh bedding. The bed was excellent. We had a half board package. We were concerned that the food, after the first two nights, would be at best average. However, the meals got better and better and the waiters were attentive and frankly outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble for them and if we wanted a standard pasta dish that was not on the menu then they got it cooked for us. The pool was lovely and you got stunning views across the Bay of Naples to Vesuvius. The location is a little ot of Sant' Agnello centre - about 10 minute walk, and a good walk from Sorrento. However the free shuttle bus to Sorrento worked really well. You can walk to the train station in Sant' Agnello and take the train to Pompeii, Herculaneum or into Naples. It is a good cheap and frequently running service. There is free wifi in the reception area. The hotel claimed it was also free round the pool but we could never get a reception there. So, in summary, one ot two less than five star issues, but these are outweighed by the positives. Would we go back? Yes - without any hesitation.

I visited Grand Hotel la Pace this month with a friend. We had booked on Expedia and found the hotel to be great value for money. The hotel is filled with grand decor and furnishings which are fresh throughout. After reading some other reviewers comments I can't help but feel we stayed in a different hotel.

The staff, without exception, were very friendly and polite and their English was flawless. Make sure you say hello to Michelle in the restaurant - he is a true ambassador of customer service! We chose to book bed and breakfast as we've experienced disappointing meals in large hotels in the past, this gave us a bit of variety and with vast selection of restaurants in Sorrento I'd recommend this option. The pool area isn't huge but seems to be in fitting with the Italian way - it was never too busy during our stay, though best to avoid 4.30-6.30pm when the tour groups get back. There is a free shuttle service between the hotel and Sorrento which is a must - otherwise it's a 30 minute walk in the baking heat! Last bus back to the hotel is at 11pm which is always busy, get their early as they sometimes put on an extra service at about 10.40pm.

Our room was clean and we were offered turndown service daily. Beds are a little firmer than I'm used to but still enjoyed a good night's sleep. Room decor is yellow as mentioned in other reviews, but you're in Sorrento, where there are lemons at every corner - perhaps it's better to embrace the culture. Only had two gripes: the internet in the lobby and poolside was temperamental (but given it's free one can't really complain), and the sound proofing could be better, seems many people decide to re-arrange the furniture at 5am!

Enjoy! We'll be back.

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the better the view...get a balcony too.

Stayed in the Grand Hotel La Pace for a week at the end of June. It's rated five star but it's actually about three and a half stars. It's big disadvantage is its location as it's 30 mins walk from Sorrento town centre. They run a free shuttle bus but the times don't always suit. The main reception and lobby are very grand but the hotel lacks atmosphere somehow. The bar on the ground floor was closed while we were there and to get a drink you had to go the pool bar which is on the second floor. On the positive side the room was very clean and comfortable. Shower and WC fine. Staff pretty good overall. Pool is lovely, very clean, plenty of loungers.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back look out over fields and hills.
