Myself, my wife and our son have just returned from a 7 day holiday at the Majestic Palace Hotel. We had a ground floor room, which was very spacious and had a small patio area. The room was very clean and maid service was excellent. We stayed at the hotel on a HB basis and was amazed at the evening meal, the food was fabulous and we could not have wished for anything more. There was plenty of choice on the menu, and breakfast was buffet style. The only thing I would mention was that there did not seem to be even sunbeds, if you want to relax by the pool then put your towel on the sunbed early. I would certainly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The ground floor room was sufficient for our needs and was not noisy at all.

Myself and my wife stayed for four nights and had a very pleasant stay.
Very good breakfast and nice pool/bar area. We had a couple of pizzas for lunch one day that was very good indeed, but didn't eat dinner there.

The room was large and very clean, but no facilities to make tea, coffee or iron a shirt.

Staff pleasant and helpful and their English was also very good.

Musician plays keyboards and sings 3 times a week, and although not normally my thing, I really enjoyed a few drinks whilst watching him one night.

We have just returned from a 10 night holiday at the Majestic Palace and firstly may I say we have had a great time in Sorrento. We arrived after a severe delay into Naples in the early hours of the 27th June and after an hour or so transfer time arrived at the hotel. We were greeted by the night reception porter who assisted us with our luggage and quickly checked us into room 403. (4th floor to the rear). A cold platter of meats and salad was waiting with water, which was very much welcomed after our long journey.
After a comfortable nights sleep we woke to a partial sea view looking towards Sorrento and a balcony which would become the best part of our holiday, sat with a drink enjoying the evening sun. The rooms are traditionally decorated with air conditioning that is marvelous during some crazy hot days. The rooms are serviced well and after reporting a fault with a socket in the room, maintanace quickly sorted the problem. The room did have signs of wear and tear, such as water damaged lamp shades. On our first day we quickly realised the hotel is situated about a 20 minute walk or 5-10 minute public bus ride from Sorrento town centre. When we booked this hotel, our travel agent (Thomas Cook) advertised a shuttle bus service from the hotel into the town, however we were disapointed to find it had stopped running years ago! That being said being situated in St Agnello we found a great restaurant, Ciao Toto and Tonys bar, both a worthwile visit. If you do decide to take your life in your own hands and walk into Sorrento the main road is extremely busy with cars, scooters and any other motorised vehicle attempting to get where they want with no regard to the law, pedestrians or any other road user, you have been warned!
The staff at Majestic hotel are helpful and friendly when spoken too.I read some reviews on Tripadvisor about the staff and now can see why some people found them a little stand offish. As said when spoken to they will speak back politely, however we found no real charachters who actively engage with you.In our experience on holiday you may find a certain member of staff who makes a fuss and even remembers your name, where as at the Majestic the staff do their job in an unobtrusive manner, but personally for us they could be more engaging with its customers. The hotel facilities are good, clean pool, free WiFi, beautiful orange/lemon/olive tree lined garden and a lovely decorated restaurant with white line table cloths which are candle lit in the evening.
The food at breakfast consisted of cereals, yogurts, fruit, toast and pastries with a cooked breakfast option, however dont expect a traditional English breakfast! other cooked items such as omlettes, fried, boiled eggs come at an additional cost. The evening meal consists of 4 courses, a salad bar then the traditonal starter, main and dessert. The waiters are attentive and at hand for advice on wines and what each couse may consist of. After 5 nights of eating in the hotel my wife and I decided to no longer eat the evening meal as we experienced some poor meals, i did not raise this issue with staff as we felt it could'nt be addressed, the food was the food, so we just got on with finding some great restaurants elsewhere. The food at the Majestic was edible, nicely presented but at times just lacked flavour and the Italian flare which we have come to love about Italy. Although on a half board basis making this decision was probably the best thing as we heard from other guests that the meals went on to get worse, such as the 'Neapolitan night' We noticed that the restaurant is open to the public in the name of Don Geppi and found the menu displayed outside the hotel gates. The food was completly different from the guests menu and we formed the opinion that the public menu seemed more luxurious with more options. We felt out of the two menus the guest menu was clearly the cheaper option.
On checking out at the hotel we were left a customer feedback form in the room which i thought best not to complete and save my comments for here.We checked out at 11am, paid our room charges including the new local tax 1.50 euros per day per person and did not recieve any thanks for our custom, have a safe pleasent trip etc. As the coach arrived we collected our luggage unaided and walked out of the hotel without even a goodbye see you again, although we did witness this service to returning guests.
In conclusion as said weve had a great time in Sorrento, The Majestic palace is a nice place to stay, but due to its location from Sorrento town centre, the lack of shuttle bus facilities and in my opinion the food we would not return here again. The hotel lacks some finer detail which you should expect from a 4 star hotel, however during our stay came across returning customers who were happy with the hotel. In my opinion if your looking to visit Sorrento there are some other great hotels conviently situated a 5 minute walk from the town center which talking to their guests, dont have similar issues we experienced. The Majestic as the title of this review is nice, but....

Dear KarlandKelly,

Thank you very much for choosing Majestic Palace Hotel for your stay and for sharing your experience on tripadvisor.
We are very pleased that you enjoyed a cold platter of meat and salad in your room on your late arrival, and your room in general.
Regarding the shuttle bus, we would like to clarify that it had stopped running 2 years ago and it isn't advertised anywhere on the web. Unfortunately there are some Tour Operators in UK that still advertise in their brochure the shuttle service... We are trying from 2 years to cancel the shuttle bus service from our facilities BUT... nothing... and honestly we can't always respond for the mistake and negligence of others!
We respect your opinion about our Staff even if we disagree with you as well as for the food. Our restaurant is also opened to non-resident guests and we offer 2 types of menu to them: the daily menu (same we offer to our guests on half board) and à l carte menu. We don't provide better or worse menu, But... simply a differentiation and more choices.
In conclusion, we know very well that it's not easy to satisfy all tastes and expectations of our guests, BUT... we always try to do our best to improve ourselves and satisfy them and we really apologize if sometimes we run into errors.

Best Regards
Giuseppe Cannavale

My wife and i visited The Majestic Palace for the 5th time in 8 yrs and we still find it a beautiful authentic Italian hotel and would recommend anyone to go there.
We arrived at the majestic on the 22nd June for 2 weeks for my wifes 40th birthday, i e-mailed the hotel 1yr before explaining this and requested a room with a nice view and a balcony if poss. When we arrived i produced a copy of the E-mail and was up graded to a 3rd floor room at the front of the hotel with amazing views of The bay of Naples and Vesuvious. As in previous years the room was spotless, and there was a bottle of Champagne in ice waiting for us from the Management. Then we recieved another on my wifes birthday.
The evening meal has changed slightly, the gala evening is now a set meal with no choice, before it was a large buffet which you could help your self, which i felt was alot better before. The evening meals are ok with a choice of 3 starters 3 mains and 2 puddings, and the breakfast is a large choice of cooked, continental, or fruit, plenty of choice.
The pool is excellent, it now has a corner of which is now a Jacuzzi style, (blenty of bubbles) which you can turn on at your pleasure and just sit and relax.
The bar area has a very good lunch menu and the pizzas are lovely, all fresh made.
In the evenings the bar area is quite and relaxing, with a singer twice a week.
The Manager and staff are excellent, they are friendly, proffesional and always have a chat with you.
To sum it up, The Majestic Palace is in a suberb of Sorrento called Sant Agnello, about 1.5 miles from the centre of Sorrento. So its alot quiter than the centre which i recommend.
Its a beautiful hotel and location with every thing you need if you want to relax or travel .
And i would recommend it to everyone.

Nice Hotel, Nice Food, Superb Staff......just a shame about the group of Americans who annoyed most other guests (and i suspect the staff too), they were extremely loud, full of their own importance, the father was a complete nuisance, he continually threw his two (3 year old) sons into the pool with complete disregard to other guests, he then publicly beat one of his (3 year old) sons (for pushing his twin brothers head under the water !!!) in front of everyone and then made him lay in the blistering sun for approximately 15 minutes as further punishment, sickening and extremely difficult to watch, incredibly, no other family member intervened, i guess they knew they would have had the same done to them. if the event had gone on for another few minutes i probably would have lost restraint and he would have had to face up to an adult as opposed to a child.. He will know who he is when he reads this and i hope he, and his family realise how unpopular they were/are and how close he was to being humiliated by an adult just as his poor son was.

Apart from that, which was no fault of the Hotels, we had a nice time and would certainly return again.

Just returned from a weeks stay - we cannot recommend this hotel strongly enough. The hotel is beautifully furnished, especially the foyer when you first arrive. The rooms are big and airy, with lovely balconies; the food is amazing, a la carte, with plenty of choice. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. There are also a number of terraces throughout the hotel, including a roof top terrace which boasts wonderful views, of Sorrento and Mount Vesuvius. The hotel is well located in a quieter area of Sorrento and is within easy of all the main tourist attractions.

We would definitely return!!

The hotel for the price that we paid for a June break was exceptional, I had been to Greece the week before visiting Italy and the two hotels I stayed in (for nearly the same price) couldn’t have been poles apart.

HOTEL
This is not a state of the art hotel, it doesn’t have that EU clinical bedroom feel to it and I would describe it to some level as shabby chic (a few cracked tiles on the floor etc) but this in no means is a dirty or un-kept hotel, in fact I couldn’t fault the Majestic on cleanliness. There is a lack of entertainment which suited are party the ground! We get badgered to death enough in England so to have some peace and quiet, enjoying the company of our party and walking into Sorrento in the evening was the perfect combination for us.

EXPENSE
A few previous reviews have described the cost of drinks and food as quite expensive. Italy is not the cheapest of places (let’s face it anywhere where ‘The Kennedys, Princess Margaret and Moet and Chandon’ all have property is never going to be described as ‘cost effective’). Therefore, prices around the bar area were akin with the local area as you would expect them to be, so curve your expectations that this is not a package deal to Greece or Spain and you won’t be disappointed!

STAFF
The staff as everyone has already mentioned were exceptionally friendly, and possibly the nicest set of employees that I have come across in a while), patient, attentive, they all have jovial personalities (which we appreciated, it is after all difficult to translate humour through language barriers) service is slow around the bar at times but this is a relaxed hotel.

RECOMMENDED RESTAURANTS
- The Foreigners Club Sorrento Town – amazing views on the bay – do not be put off by its shabby frontage - I refused to go in at first – how wrong I was.

- “Marinella” beach - is at only 300 meters far from the hotel (keep walking down the road until you hit the cliff front, and then walk down the incline until you find the lifts). If you eat in the sea restaurant – WHICH WAS FANTASTIC, amazing views, free Prosecco, attentive staff and good value for money, the journey in the lift is free.

Hotel food - we had a few picky eaters and the food in the hotel was fine. Pasta dishes were excellent and the waiters were more than helpful in recommending and explaining the menu in great detail if required.

This is not a pernickety review, we had a fantastic stay, we would return again as a family, and we would definitely recommend to others.

Room Tip: TOP TIPS • Rooms 303 and 304 were excellent – they had fantastic views of the surrounding hills...
