“Moderate Majestic Palace”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2014

From the outside, the hotel looks great. It is well situated and is easily accessible, though disabled gusts might have a problem. The public areas are lovely, including the restaurant, and well appointed. The staff, of almost every kind, are top class and special mention must go to the restaurant staff and bar staff. The food was very good and the entertainment was spot on. There were two downsides. The bedroom was generally very tired in decor and layout. The floors were all ceramic tiles in some of this was chipped and the glaze on the tiles was coming off in the balcony. There as only one point for charging appliances. The bathroom was not good at all with mould on the shower curtain and wood rot on the bottom of the door. This was the one area where the staff were not up to par because the bathroom was not cleaned properly until I complained. The other area of concern was in the pool area which could do with a real makeover. With some money invested in the right areas, this hotel could be outstanding.

Room Tip: A room looking out onto the Bay of Naples is best and they are at the front though the church bells...

We've stayed in many 4 Star Hotels and this one claims that status, but it's not quite there yet. The restaurant certainly pulls its weight as far as quality goes, accept the Gala evening meal, which seemed to me, to be an opportunity to use up left overs in a creative way. Where this hotel really comes up short is the rooms. This hotel certainly does not have 4 Star rooms. Room 4, which is in the basement floor of the hotel, was certainly not up to 4 Star quality and I doubt any of the others meet that specification either. Bathroom was mouldy, dirty and had broken bathroom fixings. The air conditioning vents where dirty as was various other 'nooks & grannies' around the room. No in room facilities, that you would normally expect from a 4 Star hotel, like tea & coffee making facilities, maximum profit for the bar!. Also for the women of the world, no appropriately placed power sockets for the all important make-up applications and hair styling procedures. This room was also noisy from the machine room below us & the kitchens above us! No sleep. Be warned! I would say that this hotel was more like a 2 Star in terms of room quality, than the rated 4 Star ( 4T ) in Thomson terms. Improvement is certainly needed before I would rate this hotel as 4 Star. I've given it an average rating, purely for the restaurant & bar quality alone, otherwise everywhere else it is POOR.

Room Tip: Avoid basement rooms assigned to Thomson package holiday makers.

Dear RoboPosti,

We thank you very much for choosing our hotel for your stay in Sorrento and for taking tome to sharing your experience on TripAdvisor.
We care about our guests feedback and we are sorry to read that you didn't appreciated our hotel and your stay with us.
We would like to reply in some points to your review and your personal opinion:
FOOD: We organize once a week a Neapolitan Dinner with live music mandolin & guitar, very appreciated from our customers. The dinner is of course with neapolitan typical food and of course it isn't an apportunity to use up left overs in a creative way "which seemed only to you".
ROOM: You've booked a family room for 4 people on ground floor. We gave you a nice family room, very large with patio outside. We have in all our rooms a card with a list where we ask to our customers to be so kind to let us know any problems or request for repair and no request has been made by you. Anyway we do apologize if you had problems in your room and we've already asked to the housekeeper for an explanation and we'll ensure that such a things does not happen again in the future.

Reporting the problems you had only here on TripAdvisor and posting so detailed photos it is useless, maybe if you have reported immediately the problems at reception staff or to your rep certainly we would have solved during your stay.

Regarding some photo, we would like to clarify to our readers that all the pictures taken from you of the external/outdoor are from private areas, where the access is restricted to the customers (as for example the boiler room...) and where can be accessed only by the hotel staff. Honestly we don't understand why you went in that private area and why you taken pictures of a private area... ?!

We are very pleased that (at least) you've appreciated our Staff.

Kind regards
Giuseppe Cannavale

I enjoyed a very nice time at this hotel, entertainment most nights, staff all friendly, pool lovely and a short walk to town. I would only suggest letting people pay for drinks when they want to, so its not all on the tab and we forget how much we are spending! Food was very nice in the hotel, especially the fish! Would defiantly come back

We had a lovely relaxing week here in late June 2014. Room was very spacious and as described in brochure. Bed comfortable, minibar, whirlpool bath, air conditioning excellent and exceptionally clean. Reception and check in staff speedy and helpful. Restaurant staff were knowledgeable, professional and polite. We stayed half board. The food was varied and always of high quality.

The hotel was approx 20mins walk from central of Sorrento which was fine. Sant Agnello has a few bars as well along with a beach accessible by lift.

Would be happy to return to this hotel and the area.

This was our fourth visit to the Majestic Palace in as many years and both my wife and I were reminded why keep coming back.

Firstly, the hotel is very Italian - not a sniff of UK infused culture creeping in, a real plus. Gardens at the back are fantastic and the hotel is around a 20 minute walk into the heart of Sorrento. I'd recommend the coastal walk in, much more scenic. Dramatic statues and paintings adorn the communal areas with marble floors. All kept very clean. Room was a balcony room which we have always opted for and without question, is worth paying the extra for; trust me. Our room was clean and cool, we found it very calming and quiet where we were located on the first floor.

Food options in the evening are varied (we eat here roughly 5 of 7 nights) and of very good quality. I'm not a breakfast eater (not that you'd know!) but my wife assures me the pastries are most enjoyable. Drinks menu is varied and priced no more than one would expect from a hotel.

Pool area is charming and well kept. Granted, it's small but that posed us no issues and they have tightened the rules on that naff trait of reserving beds pre opening - well done Brian!! Pool is of good size and very much cools you down, and fast! Evening entertainment is also poolside most nights, look out for Soul Food, these guys are fantastic, we wished they played every night!

Service is where the hotel truly excels. It really is impeccable. Dinner, at the bar, reception (extending our room to accommodate our late check out was no problem for a modest fee); you will really be taken care of by the hard working and attentive staff. Vicenzo the matrie'd and Danilo in the bar are a true credit to this hotel.

In summary, if you want a hotel that leaves the UK behind and gives you a real taste of Italy, then the Majestic Palace is worth a look.

Stayed at this hotel in May visiting Sorrento and area for the first time. Hotel was lovely and our room very clean and spacious with balcony overlooking the Bay of Naples. Food was excellent and staff were charming and very helpful. What's not to like?!! Hotel situated a little way out from the hustle and bustle of Sorrento and away from the main road into the town. It is a fair walk in to the centre of Sorrento and lack of good pavements would make it quite difficult equally for families with pushchairs or elderly people. Ideally it would be nice to have a shuttle bus facility from the hotel to the centre of Sorrento as we found public transport very crowded, unreliable and not very pleasant. The alternative taxi rides were pricey even for a relatively short ride. However this aside we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to other visitors.
