Booking via a travel agent as a last minute holiday, we stayed in the hotel Londra during the first week of August in room 122. I had read the reviews on this site before we went and we were expecting clean, basic accommodation albeit with a comedy shower. We were not disappointed and were in fact very pleased with our holiday.

When we arrived in the very early morning we were surprised and pleased to see that the staff had left out in the room for us some bread, cheese and ham unprompted. The room was of a decent size and was furnished in a traditional, if slightly old fashioned, manner which gave it a nice Italian charm. The bathroom was clean and functional and we were amused to see that the shower really was tiny - if you are larger than the average bear you might find it a "bit" awkward to use but not impossible. We had a balcony overlooking the main entrance and this had locking doors and a solid shutter keeping the room cool. You can hire air conditioning for the room for 7 euros a day and a fridge for 4 euros a day but we were happy without either. It is worth noting that there is no safe in the room. You can put your valuables in the hotel safe however you are unable to take things out after 8pm and it is not always possible to access your belongings immediately - so you need to be aware and plan ahead.

The hotel itself is not huge having 46 bedrooms and this gives it a nice personal air about it. The pool is of a decent size if you are just looking to float about in the heat and we always managed to find a sunbed at the times we went. There is a roof terrace on the main building that seemed a little neglected and ignored by the guests - this was a lovely place to chill out during the day or to watch the sunset from at night. It is well worth climbing the stairs to see.

The restaurant is in the basement of the main building and there is a snack bar poolside. We were half board during our stay. The breakfast was of a typical continental style - providing more then enough to start the day with - mainly cereal, fruit juices, ham and cheese, rolls and some baked items like croissants. The dinners were over three courses and we were happy with both the choice and quality of the food. If you didn't like what was on offer, if you are vegetarian like me, the staff were more than willing to deviate from the set menu. The only down side was that sometimes it did take a long time to get through a meal (easily over an hour even if you had preordered). This did become a little awkward if you were wanting to go out somewhere.

Overall the staff were very helpful and friendly and helped make staying at the Londra a delight. The rooms were cleaned and the towels changed every day. Unfortunately we didn't find a way to lock the door so that the cleaners were unable to come in if you were having a lie in which wasn't ideal. The cleaners however were very pleasant and cheery when they did arrive.

The londra is about a 20 minute walk from the centre of Sorrento (so i am not quiet sure what route the people who said it was a hour took!). As in all of Italy the mopeds and cars are a law unto themselves so you do have to be careful but no more so around the Londra than anywhere else. It is a busy street that the Londra is on but there are definitely busier ones nearby. From the roof terrace you can see the bay and over to Vesuvius and it is surrounded by mountains. There are a few local shops and places to eat near by as well as cliff bottom bathing platforms. There are bus stops outside the hotel including the one for the open top bus tour so it is easy to get about.

All in all the Londra is what is says on the tin - a good, solid, clean level of accommodation to use as a base from which to explore the fantastic area of Sorrento and beyond. I definitely think that if we are to return to Sorrento that the Londra would be on our list of places to stay.

We were searching for last minute holidays and booked this without really knowing where we were going or what it was like. After we booked we were both a bit concerned by some of the reviews but when we got there we thought it was perfect. Its extremely clean and the staff are very very friendly, especially Pasquale the night barman who loves his tips and giving is life story to anyone within earshot. A real character who just the thought of makes us smile. There is a pool with adequate room for those who want to spend quality time there. The drinks are a little pricey but thats the case in all hotel bars ive found. My only grumblings are the showers are tiny, lovely but tiny. We paid for bed and breakfast so i cant report on the meals but the breakfast really isnt worth getting up for. We did the first morning but didnt bother after that. Im all for when in Rome but i do like my cuppa in the morning and Liptons yellow label tea just doesn't do it for me. The brits at breakfast were obvious, all had the same look when taking the first sip of tea. The hotel is only a 20 minute walk from Sorrento, its a lovely walk with interesting views along the way. The walls at the hotel are paper thin and we listened to an italian grandmother amuse her grandchildren each morning singing italian nursery rhymes, amusing at first but we were close to murder on our last morning. If we ever went back we would definately stay here again tho, its clean and perfectly placed. Use public transport where you can, taxis are great but really really costly. The buses and trains and so cheap its untrue. Book a mini cruise too if you can, 8-9 hours around neighbouring islands for 30 Euros. This can be booked at the tourist information office near the main town centre in Sorrento

After reading the reviews of others we nearly changed our holiday but did not as we always try to be positive and look on the bright side of things.
The hotel is very basic and it is noisy due to the plumbing, doors and nearness to the road. Other hotels in the area that are 3 starred seemed plusher from the reception areas and when viewed externally. The rooms etc. are old fashioned. The bathroom has no bath and a very very small shower.
Breakfast was cereals of crusty cobs with cheese and ham for the 14 days. Fruit juice, water and cake was also available.
The staff preferred that you choose your lunch at breakfast, to make things easier for them and the chef presumably.
The choice of starter was either fruit juice, soup or a pasta based dish on most days. Not all three as I first thought but just one. On some occassions the waiter, seemingly at his discretion, would ask if we wished for more of the starter to eat. We were asked about 5 times and took up the offer on 2 occasions. The main meal was served on a small dish with vegatables of the season (however it seems courgettes were most in season) with what seems like either a choice of a pasta based dish, veal, chicken, or omlette. Again only one option could be chosen but it was possible to change the meal if you did not like it and get another option which we did ask for once. You have to make your own entertainment at the hotel. The hotel is clean and the staff friendly. Ask them about places to visit. The pool is acceptable but must get crowded at high season.
The hotel is not bad but I think that there would be a better alternative if I stayed in the area again.

Had a fantastic tme at the Londra. Rooms very clean and spacious even the 3 bedded room. The shower cubicle was a problem though very small and had to leave cubicle doors open leaving a flooded bathroom! The breakfast was basic but all we needed, evening meal had a good choice each day and my son a very fussy eater always found something he enjoyed on the menu. The staff were brilliant especially the barman! A wide variety of drinks were on offer. The wine was very cheap and good a weeks bar bill came to 74 euros for 5 people enjoying a wide variety of drinks. Great authentic snacks served at lunchtime. Would go there again the only drawback was that it was 7 euros a day to run the air con. Otherwise a great hotel.

we stayed at the londra for a week at the end of june, its an ideal base to tour surrounding areas, local buses are outside the hotel and cost only one euro into sorrento,
the hotel itself is very clean with maid service daily, small pool with very comfortable sunbeds, its on a very noisy main road and traffic is noisy and busy all through the night, air conditioning is a must at 7 euros a day, worth every penny,
the resturant is very basic and the breakfasts are without doubt the worst we have ever experianced, cerial ,a few rolls, cheese and ham, evening meals dry and tastless, with packet soup,
the bathrooms are small ,and be warned ,if you are over 12 stone you will not be able to turn round in the shower cubicle, its tiny, all in all ,very disappointing
