This was our second stay at the Florida and our last. We went late September to October. the weather was brilliant but they would not put the air conditioning on. the there were ants in the bedroom, bathroom and on the balcony. complained to reception and was given a spray the ants liked this. Owners seemed to have a disinterested attitude to many of the guests complaints. I was one of many guests bitten by the ants, and needed treatment . the holiday was a real disappointment will not be returning .

This is a friendly family run hotel tucked into a quite corner of St Agnello. The bus stops are just outside on the main road and the railway station is a 10 minute walk away. Connections to Pompei and Herculaneum and the Main square in Sorrento are regular and direct. The pool area is clean and pleasant with an outside bar. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is excellent. Trips to various attractions can be booked from the hotel. We actually visited in October 2011 but the menu does not show corresponding date.

Room Tip: Some rooms overlook the olive and fruit trees at the side of the Hotel, but that means you can see t...

Having not had a holiday for a couple of years my mother and I decided to have a girly week somewhere nice and warm with a few places to visit.
Hotel - Small family run hotel, very clean and tidy with friendly staff and the family pooch.
Facilities - Pool area with bar, clean and well presented, never got too busy always some sun beds available. Food and drinks available to order whilst you relax.
Dining - Good, home cooked food and plenty of it, always a good choice of starters and mains and a selection of puddings, with a signature dish or fresh fruit or ice creams or sorbet OR a bit of everything if you fancied it. Breakfast was the usual continental thing, cheese, meats, rolls (yummy), croissants, bakery items, boiled eggs, cereals, fruit, yoghurt and coffee, Oh the coffee…. Mmmmm. I did miss my marmite though so if you like this, take your own. Pizza night is great fun, the slices just kept on coming and sitting in the lemon garden is lovely. On the down side not gourmet and a little heavy on the number of times they used chips.
Rooms – smaller than they look in the brochure, but at least the shower had concertina doors and not a ‘curtain’. Always very clean, the lady who 'does' was superb, she folded my pyjamas (surprising and no way expected) and was teaching us Italian 'Buongiorno'. However, the downside was that the buildings were not soundproofed and there were some very noisy guests! Clomping up the stairs, dragging furniture around, talking and shouting into the small hours of the night. We also had an invasion of ants on the first night, think they were surprised to see us! However, this was sorted with some insect spray.
Trips – we visited Pompeii which was extraordinary, didn’t think we needed to do an organised trip but glad we did as the headsets and the tour guide were a real benefit otherwise you wouldn’t really know what you were looking at as there’s no signs. Capri and Anacapri - fabulous views, great shops and the funicular railway was an event. Amalfi Coast – wow, what views, however, if you haven’t got a head for heights be afraid, be very afraid… Our tour guides Sian, who was half Italian and half Welsh! and Connie who was Italian, were both superb, very informative and funny and gave us very good advice. You could do all of the trips yourself but you would miss all the information that we were given. Costs are not low but well worth the investment.
Sorrento – a very pretty town, lots of shops, restaurants all the usual things. Pretty much on the flat unless you wanted to get down to any lido or coast area, this was quite a trip down lots and lots and lots of steps! Limoncello, yummy!
Costs - it's a bit expensive here, £4.50 for a coffee! and £3.00 for a bottle of water, although there were supermarkets where you could get cheaper water.
One last tip, try the local wine ‘Lacryma Christi’ from grapes grown on the slopes of Vesuvius, gorgeous, smooth, rich flavours, fabulous!!
Despite the downside of the noise I would definitely choose to stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the bungalow rooms at the back if you want a quiet room. AC had been switched off wh...

This hotel is small, clean and very friendly. It is located about 20 minutes walk from the centre of Sorrento and 5 minutes walk from spectacular views over the bay of Naples. The big BUT is the food - if you can remember post war rationing, have never experienced any form of fine dining and enjoy mashed potato that you could drink through a straw then you will love this place. To the hotel's credit they are catering for what they think the average 85 yr old Brit will like and I am sure their target market would love it. Most people however go to Italy for the food - if this is you then book into the Florida but budget to eat out for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have tried to be as honest as possible here, the hotel is lovely but the food was so very very poor.

Before you book have a look at the Hotel Villa St Michele at Castiglione di Ravello - this place is simply idyllic and the food and overall service will blow you away

we stayed in a hotel just round the corner from this hotel last year and enjoyed our holiday so much we decided to return to Sorrento again this year (first two weeks in September). When we went to book, the other hotel had no availability so we booked the Florida instead as it appeared very similar. It is, but for various reasons we enjoyed it even better. There is a good atmosphere around the pool (not noisy at all) which is the central part of the hotel, with a bar that was nice to sit at during the day or evening (with food at lunch time). Evening meals in the hotel were ok and we had no complaints with them on the nights we ate there, and the staff do really well, but Sorrento has so many good places to eat that we ate out most nights.
The rooms are fine, with good air con.and do what they are supposed to do. A good shower too.
We had no complaints with the hotel or staff at all, and if you go here you won't be disappointed.
It isn't 5 star but if you are paying the sort of money that we did, you should be looking for a really solid hotel, clean and friendly, with a good pool and somewhere ideally situated to chill out when you want to, after hot days spent visiting Capri, Naples, Pompeii, Amalfi etc. The Florida meets this without any doubt.
There are comments on previous reviews about distance into the centre of Sorrento but it is a 15 minute walk, either on the back road which is quieter (with pavements) or straight along the main road , where there are a few bits with narrow pavements, but that's just the way it is in this area. It is a pleasant enough walk with cafes, restaurants and bars intermingling with the shops all the way. Banana Split bar was especially popular !
And don't forget Sant' Agnello with its own assortment of restaurants and bars only 5 minutes away.
Sorrento itself is a tremendous place with so much going on and a whole host of places to visit quite easily by public transport. The hotel is well placed for both trains and buses.
We probably won't be back in Sorrento again having been twice, (although maybe not) as there are so many other places we would like to visit, but if we do go back we wouldn't hesitate going back to the Florida. Thanks Michel we enjoyed it very much,.

Family run by a very attentive helpful range of staff. We were in room 106 which was at the back away from the pool area. The advantage of this was to be in a double glazed quiet room. A 15 minute walk to the railway station meant an excellent location for visiting Pompeii and Vesuivius. A bit further into Sorrento itself allowed us to explore some lovely backstreets, the port and stunning views. Capri is a must via a 25 minute ferry ride. Do go to the top and ascend by the chair lift. A very sedate ride allows stunning views back over the whole Bay of Naples. The Amalfi Drive was exhilarating with a different view around every corner. Do NOT think about driving it yourself unless you have nerves of steel!
The only thing I hated was the midges that bit me day and night. Lots of repellant needed.

Room Tip: Rooms 101-106 round the back have no pool view, but are really peaceful.
