We stayed at the La pregola through a very reasonably priced half board package sold by air tours/Thomas Cook, I have to say that the flight in arrived from Manchester at a very late hour and the first impressions were of a rather stark room (we had one on the ground floor) and a rather less than appetising meal. However I am pleased to say that we warmed to the hotel during the rest of the week and had a most fantastic time in the area. We found the location of the hotel to be really ideal away from the bustle of the centre but at the same time a gentle stroll away, maybe 15 or 20 minutes without rushing. It is right on the boarder of Sorrento and St agnello itself is very pleasant anyway. The room was pretty basic but comfy beds aren't fantastic but are as good as you would expect in most hotels. The continental style breakfast is nice with lovely pastries on offer every day along with cereals yoghurt tea coffee cold meat cheese eggs and so on provided. Aside from the Neopolitan evening where the pizzas were a bit ,to say the least, stodgy and badly cooked the food was really nice indeed, not over adapted to British taste and the hard working staff were never any less than 100% helpful and pleasant. No drinks were provided with the evening meal and the drinks prices were a little expensive but the house wine served as 0.5l in a jug was cheap and drinkable so I'd recommend that option rather than a bottle. There is a very nice terrace on the roof of the hotel and also a small pool on the lower ground floor which we didn't try.
As regards the Sorrento area it is so beautiful and full of things to do that we wish we'd stayed longer. The bus station and local train station (a sort of metro really) are both close by with a cash machine in the bank of naples opposite them. If you are planning to go to Pompeii or Herculaneaum it is worth doing as we did and buying a 3 day all of region Arte card this will give you two free museum entries plus free use of most public transport for 3 days and can be purchased at the small shop at the railway station. So long as you are under 65 this is real VFM (EU citizens over 65, of course, have free entry to most museums so long as they show their passport). Don't miss the spectaular bus journey to Amafi but be warned there will be a queue for the bus so arrive at the stop early or you'll have to stand on the bus (feels a bit like a rollercoaster!!). So overall a really fab holiday and nice little hotel.

We stayed 11 nights; the first on the ground floor, the second on the first (rear) and the rest on the second (front). This last had a balcony with views over the bay of Naples to Vesuvius. Sorrento is a 20 min walk but you are saving a huge amount compared to more central hotels. A bus stop is 200m away but we found the service erratic; the stations for Pompei, Herculaneum and Vesuvius are 10 or 15 mins walk. There are an assortment of eating places in the area. (We liked La Tavola di Lucullo, patronised by the locals and rather fun)
The roof terrace has wonderful views and sunbeds for relaxing. The pool was chilly but sheltered and very welcome. The staff are, indeed, very anxious to please. Room cleaned every day with fresh towels.

Room Tip: Our ground floor room did not appeal. Rooms at the rear are quiet with nice inland views and morning sun. Rooms at the front were still pretty quiet and had afternoon sun.

This hotel is absolutely fantastic. It is a family run basic but extremely comfortable hotel where the staff cannot do enough for you. The food is really good and each morning you choose your evening meal from the menu which ensures everything is cooked fresh. The rooms are basic in decor but the beds are very comfortable and the hotel is about a 10 minute walk from Sorrento centre. The hotel has a fabulous roof terrace for sunbathing and also a shaded area for enjoying reading whilst drinking a glass of wine. The views from the terrace are amazing. I would recommend this hotel to everyone from families to individuals and next time I am going to Sorrento I will definitely book this hotel.

Room Tip: If you enjoy having a drink in your room I suggest you book a balcony directly with the hotel. It costs 8 euros per day.

The hotel is very nice and comfortable. Rooms are small but comfortable and were always clean. The location is quite convenient, it is not in the center of Sorrento but the train station a few steps away. Staff is very professional, always polite and courteous. There is also a terrace with sun loungers for those who like to soak up the sunshine and swimming pool with hydro massage in the shade.
The restaurant is spacious, kitchen is tasty, good breakfast. In conclusion I want to say this is a very nice hotel for not much money

I stayed here with a party of 42 sixth formers in March. The hotel was clean and functional, staff efficient and generally friendly. The hotel food was of a reasonable quality. Students did not like the fact that they had to sleep in bunkbeds. Maintance of the hotel was a little lacking as a number of door handles and blinds broke during our stay, but the hotel was quick to fix the problems. The hotel is about 20 mins walk from the centre of Sorrento, not an easy walk due to a lack of pavements in places, so I would be worried if younger children stayed there.
