“Ideal base for exploring the area.”
Reviewed 17 June 2012

Nice hotel with all the basics needed. Showers and balconies tiny though! What the hotel lacked in facilities was more than made up for by the staff - incredibly friendly and hard-working. The sun terrace on the roof was beautiful with far-reaching views, and the pool was great for cooling off, although was very cold. We didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel as there is so much to do around the area. Travelled with Thomas Cook and would recommend their trips, especially the Pompeii and Vesuvius excursion - what our guide Christine didn't know about the local history wasn't worth knowing! Our rep Claire was great - very professional and helpful. Sorrento itself is lovely, though very busy and as the hotel was based on the outskirts, we didn't get the usual holiday-makers' noise. Yes, there is a noisy cockerel and a carpark at the back of the hotel, but we were so tired from all our sight-seeing that neither disturbed our sleep! An ideal base, with reasonable food - the pasta is definitely the best thing on the menu.

what a fantastic little hotel, i've just come back from spending a week here with my son and the staff (Giuseppe, peppe, Alyssa, Vincenzo, Dina and rafaelo sorry if i missed anyone) could not be more helpful and did everything to make sure we enjoyed our holiday thank you too them all we didn't want too come home. rooms were comfortable and cleaned everyday i was on the 2nd floor room 210 and the view from the balcony was stunning, one floor up is the solarium with a gorgeous view of Vesuvius and the mountains. the food was lovely with a choice from 3 different starters, main meals and dessert if anyone didn't fancy what was on the menu rafaelo (head waiter) would be happy to sort something else, the location was perfect 10-15 min walk to the center of sant'agnello or sorrento so just outside the hustle of the very busy main roads, train station to Pompeii, Vesuvius, Herculaneum and Naples was aslo just 10-15 min walk from the hotel.

all in all a perfect trip, we will be booking again for next year,
THANKS TO EVERYONE AT THE LA PERGOLA FOR AN AMAZING HOLIDAY

We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of June 2012, and they must have over booked and we ended up in the room right at the top of the hotel on the terrace (room no. 315), which we thought would be peaceful and pleasant enough.
When we checked in the hotel staff were agitated and now we understand why!
They were making sure the room was sprayed with air freshener before we got to the room to cover the absolutely disgusting smell of damp that we were later going to be greeted with!
We went out on our first night in Sorrento and had dinner, then returned to the hotel to be hit by this stench.
Also when we returned to the room from dinner it was obviously dark and we had't noticed until that point the only bedside light was a red bulb! And once we started to look more throughly the room was dirty and a complete nightmare.
We went to reception to state our complaint and was told the hotel was full and they could do nothing to help! The next morning once again we put our grievence across and this time demanded to be moved. It took alot of upset but eventually they agred to move us to a hotel a few meters away, and what an improvement!

Just returned from a 2 week holiday with friends(May-June 2012) This small family ran hotel was very clean the bedrooms were compact and clean and a pleasure to have clean towels daily.
We stayedin room 202 and the views from the balcony were stunning as were the views from the roof.
The staff Guiseppe Pepe Vincenzo and Analaysia (?) were very friendly happy and helpful-they helped make a holiday to remember.
Raffaelo, helped by Pina were brilliant. Raffaelo who is the head waiter was a formidable character but was very efficient and attentive-as were all the staff and to qoute him

''Please.Tonight we have ...........''

The food was good and varied the traditional Italian food was excellent the price of drinks from the bar were about the average price in resort. The bar was in reception area and a pleasant place to sit and drink.

The Hotel is a good 15-20 mins walk into Sorrento and 10- 15 min walk into St Agnello via Corsa Italia which is the main road and busy busy busy!
We made use of the local buses and trains which were inexpensive and a great experience.
The Thomas Cook rep Claire Perry was helpful peasant and very profesional with a good sense of humour .
All in all a very good holiday and to quote Vincenzo '' Gratzi Mille!''

Although only a three star, the quality of the staff and the food made this Hotel special.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful ( Guiseppe, Vincenzo, Pepe, Elisia in reception, probably not all spelt properly).
The dining room was an experience, Rafaelo and Josephine were amazing and offered great daily menus especially Italian food, the Cannelloni was the best we have ever tasted.
The rooms were basic but very clean, with clean towells every day. We reported two minor problems in the bathroom and they were repaired the same day. Our room was on the front of the hotel on the second floor and we enjoyed views of Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples. There were even better views from the roof terrace. Sorrento was a fifteen minute walk away but would advise using the first turning to the right in the lane to avoid the narrow point of the corsa Italia. The buses are a bargain at 1.2 Euros and you can access the whole of the sorrento bay and its five towns. Piano and St Agnello are quite charming and away from the bustle of Sorrento where prices are quite high. We would recommend this hotel to anyone. The Thomas Cook rep Claire was extremely helpful and efficient. Thanks to Massimmo and his staff. From Harry and Margaret Smith

The rooms are basic, but nicely furnished and the beds comfortable. The roof terrace has the most fantastic views of the bay and Vesuvius, and is really comfortable. The staff are very friendly, and helpful, and some of them are real characters. The food is good, and the outdoors buffet lovely, so don't miss it. Just a short walk from the center of Sorrento, expensive by taxi, but only 1.2o Euros by bus. Don't miss the Pompeii and Vesuivus trip, and the Amalfi drive is gorgeous, and well worth the money.
For people watching, try The Fauno cafe in the center of Sorrento - good food and drinks
A great hotel, and we would't hesitate to book there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view and balcony

We stayed at the La pregola through a very reasonably priced half board package sold by air tours/Thomas Cook, I have to say that the flight in arrived from Manchester at a very late hour and the first impressions were of a rather stark room (we had one on the ground floor) and a rather less than appetising meal. However I am pleased to say that we warmed to the hotel during the rest of the week and had a most fantastic time in the area. We found the location of the hotel to be really ideal away from the bustle of the centre but at the same time a gentle stroll away, maybe 15 or 20 minutes without rushing. It is right on the boarder of Sorrento and St agnello itself is very pleasant anyway. The room was pretty basic but comfy beds aren't fantastic but are as good as you would expect in most hotels. The continental style breakfast is nice with lovely pastries on offer every day along with cereals yoghurt tea coffee cold meat cheese eggs and so on provided. Aside from the Neopolitan evening where the pizzas were a bit ,to say the least, stodgy and badly cooked the food was really nice indeed, not over adapted to British taste and the hard working staff were never any less than 100% helpful and pleasant. No drinks were provided with the evening meal and the drinks prices were a little expensive but the house wine served as 0.5l in a jug was cheap and drinkable so I'd recommend that option rather than a bottle. There is a very nice terrace on the roof of the hotel and also a small pool on the lower ground floor which we didn't try.
As regards the Sorrento area it is so beautiful and full of things to do that we wish we'd stayed longer. The bus station and local train station (a sort of metro really) are both close by with a cash machine in the bank of naples opposite them. If you are planning to go to Pompeii or Herculaneaum it is worth doing as we did and buying a 3 day all of region Arte card this will give you two free museum entries plus free use of most public transport for 3 days and can be purchased at the small shop at the railway station. So long as you are under 65 this is real VFM (EU citizens over 65, of course, have free entry to most museums so long as they show their passport). Don't miss the spectaular bus journey to Amafi but be warned there will be a queue for the bus so arrive at the stop early or you'll have to stand on the bus (feels a bit like a rollercoaster!!). So overall a really fab holiday and nice little hotel.
