“Way too far out of town”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

When our travel agent googled this property, it was shown on a map as very close to the center of Sorrento. I don't know how the other reviewers walked into Sorrento in 20 minutes, but it is at least 40 minutes and there is NOTHING else close--no restaurant, shop, store...nothing. The breakfast is OK, croissant, salami and cheese plate, bread, cereal and milk. One might wish for some fruit, especially oranges in this area. When we asked about dinner the first night, as we'd had a fairly brutal day on the train system, our first day in Italy, they acted like they didn't know what we were talking about. The icing on the cake, though, was finding an old cigar butt on the floor beside the bed, moving it to the area near the door and finding it still there after the maid 'cleaned' the room and having to ask her to remove it. Needless to say, not too clean and there's just no excuse for that. I don't mind a basic room, as this definitely is, but dirty and smelly is unacceptable. I can't recommend it for any reason. No location, no amenities, no views, and they charge a euro if you want ice in the room. Not our best intro to Italian hotels. We hope Florence is a better experience.

Room Tip: Maybe the second floor at the back would be more quiet and some of them have a little balcony.

I went to this hotel on a school trip for four nights. The rooms were clean but quite basic. There was a TV but it didn't work. I slept on a rather creaky bunk bed while my friends slept on two thin beds pushed together to look like a double bed. The bathroom was ok but the shower was so tiny, there was hardly any space to move in it.

THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE!
I have been to Italy many times before and the food has always been excellent. But the food at Hotel La Pergola was bizarre, bland, often inedible and at times vile. Most of us didn't touch it after the first night.

If you're planning on staying at this hotel arrange to eat somewhere else.

Before Anyone gets too carried away on these reviews, this is a 3 star independent hotel. You really shouldn't expect a great deal of luxury. We had a very friendly welcome from staff who were happy to help us get our orientation of the local area. We managed to check in a bit early and made our way to our basic but clean bedroom. Smiles all round so far. The hotel itself is around a 10 min walk into Sant Agnello or 15 min walk into Sorrento, so ideally placed for us. Unfortunately, one major problem that the hotel suffers from is noise. You can hear whatever is going on anywhere else in the hotel. There was a school group staying at the same time as us and although they seem well behaved, it did detract from our ability to relax in the hotel. Another small minus point was the quality of breakfast, To be honest, I really wouldn't have minded had the coffee been good (being Italy after all). Unfortunately, the coffee is from a self-service machine and is awful. When we told the guy who was keeping an eye on things at breakfast and asked if we could get fresh coffee, he said we'd have to go to the bar upstairs and buy one. At 3 euro a cup (0,80 in Sant'Agnello) I felt a bit put out.

Room Tip: Ask for a room high up (away from the kitchen) and facing the coast rather than the car park. Skip b...

Stayed here with my mum from September 16 for a week.

We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is really clean. The staff are all really friendly and helpful.

It's a great base for doing all the normal touristy things when in Sorrento. Herculaneum, Pompei, Vesuvius for example.

The food was decent and lots of it. Too much often for us.

We had a room facing the front (cleaned everyday) and with a great view. Don't expect ultra posh and you won't be disappointed. We loved it.

The sun terrace was an added bonus!

Room Tip: I think our room was 203 or 205 but it was facing the front

Just come back from a 5 night stay at La Pergola with my parents and partner and frankly it completely ruined our whole stay in Sorrento. The hotel was well below par and not what we expected at all considering the hefty price tag paid. The rooms were very basic, no double beds, just twins pushed together. No bedside table for my partner, he had to use a chair. We were given towels with holes in which looked like something my cat had had a go at. There were TV's in the room which you couldn't watch because there was no decent reception. Yes there was a pool... just dirty and full of leaves! The outside bar didn't open once the whole time we were there either. Breakfast was limited and mostly inedible. The 'hot' scrambled eggs were stone cold and we saw flies sitting on the slices of ham and cheese, so after the first morning we never went back down for it.

Worst of all though, was the constant noise at all hours of the day and night inside the hotel, meaning we were left extremely sleep deprived. Upon complaining to the manager (who couldn't care less) the response was that we could move upstairs at a cost of 80 euros per night, per person. Just an absolute insult.

The cleaners start at about 6am in the morning, so if you weren't up at the crack of dawn then your room didn't get cleaned. Me and my partner actually wanted a lie in with the price being that we didn't get our room cleaned for 2 days. The hotel is a 20-25 minute walk from the main square and shopping area so expect to walk as well.

Worst hotel all 4 of us have ever stayed at. So incredibly disappointed.

We stayed at the Hotel La Pergola from 19th Sept to 24th and we had no problems at all while we were there. We did a lot of sightseeing while we were there and the staff at the hotel were more than happy to help us work out the public transport. All staff were friendly no matter what time of day it was (we had some very early starts!).
We were half board and didn't expect much but our evening meals were fantastic! A 3 or 4 course meal every night, would go back based on this!
The rooms were very basic but we didn't need anything more than a place to sleep and change as we were there for the sights.
It was closer to Sorrento than we thought it would be, a 20 to 30 minute walk and despite there being a lack of proper footpaths it was an easy walk. It was a short walk to the Circumvesuviana which was very easy to navigate.
I would definitely go back to this Hotel purely based on the friendly staff and the great food!

We visited this hotel from 17th to 24th Sept 2013, the hotel is clean, staff who go out of there way to make your stay enjoyable are great epecially Raffael, Daniella ( who is always smiling) and Alleshia, it has a stunning view from roof , where there a plenty of sun loungers and tables and a gazeboo if you want to keep out of the sun , it also a lovely garden with tables. Breakfast is Ok , but the evening meals were first class with 3 choices of starter and main meals and a choice of deserts. The main meals were very good and some nights outstanding. For money this is a great hotel...

Room Tip: Ask for the ones with largest balconys
