Hotel Corallo Sorrento
Ranked #3 of 19 Hotels in Sant'Agnello
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 2 August 2014

1. Away from the town center of Sorrento, not a tourist trap location by any means. My wife and I visited for our honeymoon, and actually, several Italians stayed within the location as well.
2. Very clean hotel, my room was spotless. Energy efficient as well, have to leave your room key in the electric socket to run TV, green hotel.
3. Amazing views of the Bay of Naples.
4. Excellent service, Genaro the bartender is the man along with all of the staff. Our room's safe was malfunctioning so the front desk/owner allowed for us to use the hotel's.
5. Beach access is not as close as seemingly advertised, you have to walk 200 yards from the hotel and pay 10 euros to access.
6. Place gets loud with nightly weddings and close proximity to neighbors. Hotel has all marble/tile flooring and allows for serious echoes.
7. Recommended hotel, very honeymoon friendly, not a place for kids.

Room Tip: Nice A/c clean place would advise to stay here but can get loud

I spent four nights at Hotel Corallo with my wife and two kids. As has been said before, the views from the hotel are exceptional. Service is also great. A nice touch was the glass of refreshing lemonade served on check-in. Unfortunately, views and service aside, this hotel misses the mark in a number of respects:

1. Room (3 out of 5). We had a "superior" room located on the first floor of the hotel. This is one floor below the restaurant and just above the main terrace that overlooks the water (more about that later). The room is likely called superior because of its excellent water views and patio. However, the room itself is lacking in many respects. First, we noticed chips in the paint and floor tiles. The television in the room was small for a hotel (about 21") and the room lacked an iron of ironing board. There was a safe in the closet and turn down service was efficient and well done.

The bathroom adjoining the room was also suboptimal (3 out of 5). It was small, lacked a bathtub (had only a shower stall) and had only one sink with limited counter space. Amenities were also lacking. The hotel offered shampoo but no conditioner and the soap was thin and flimsy. The dryer was not full sized and was more of the travel variety. The shower had no light and was therefore very dark.

2. Because of the great views and large terrace, this hotel hosts many weddings (2 in our four nights). However, unlike other hotels that host events, the layout of Hotel Corallo does not lend itself to insulating hotel patrons from the wedding reception. Given our room's proximity to the outdoor terrace, we very clearly heard music, talking, clapping and singing until the reception wound up at around midnight. Also, the bathroom from the venue was on the same level as our room so we would hear voices in the hall and footsteps on the floor above.

3. Location (2.5 out of 5). If your goal is to stay in Sorrento, I would suggest booking a hotel in Sorrento proper. While only 2 km from the main square in Sorrento, the walk from Corallo to Sorrento will take at least 20 minutes. While there is an express bus for 1.3 euros per way and tickets are available at reception, there are a couple things to note. First, the express bus only operates until 7:30 pm. Second, buying tickets for this bus in Sorrento is very difficult so be sure to purchase return tickets at the hotel. Also, note that the express bus that leaves from in front of the hotel does not use the same transit tickets as the normal city bus. Overall, getting around proved cumbersome. While taxis are readily available, the 2 km trip between the hotel and Sorrento (and vice versa) costs an astonishing 20 euros.

4. Breakfast (3.5 out of five). Breakfast was included in our room rate. The hotel offered a breakfast buffet every morning consist of cereals, eggs, pastries, bread, fruit and coffee. The breakfast was adequate although not spectacular. Coffee was made to order and was good. Service was also prompt and good.

Overall, this hotel offers up some five star views and has excellent service. However, if you're expecting the rest of the experience to live up to the same standard, you risk being disappointed.

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights at the beginning of July - it was absolutely wonderful. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer.

We had a sea view room on the fifth floor and I would highly recommend booking the same, the view was spectacular.

The staff couldn't have done more and were so friendly. On our first night we dined on the terrace, again this was perfect, such a stunning view and the food and wine were delicious.

I'm looking forward to going back here next year and staying a bit longer this time !!!!

Room Tip: Sea View is a must !

[] the sunbathing terrace with loungers and seats etc shown on the hotel photographs was booked out to weddings for the entire duration of our 10 nights stay, so unless you have one of the very expensive rooms with a private terrace and loungers, you have to leave the hotel and use the public beach next door if you want to lay out in the sun.
[] Breakfast is disappointing as there's very little choice of fresh fruits, it's mostly tinned and even then just one or two types a day. The juice is not freshly squeezed and is from a drinks machine and coffee is served in something akin to a schools meals custard jug(!) so it quickly goes cold. There are lots of staff around at all times but the service is slow and haphazard. However, if you want cakes and sweet stuff for breakfast there's a huge choice.
[] the restaurant terrace is a lovely location for a meal, particularly if it is a spectacular sunset. The food is OK but surprisingly the Head Waiter didn't seem to know much about wine. When asked for a recommendation the first bottle he brought was undrinkable and the second passable at best. All the other eateries we tried made excellent recommendations
[] the walk into Sorrento (even if you go left at the Sorrento sign and take the back streets) involves walking on a very busy road that in parts doesn't have a pavement.
[] you can still have a good holiday in Sorrento basing yourself here but we wish we'd known the things stated above before we had booked this place.

Room Tip: Make sure you are not up against the cliffs and are in the centre or outside corner in a superior ro...

Excellent hotel, the most friendly staff, great location, delicious food, access to beach and pool. I would highly recommend this hotel and I look forward to staying at this hotel again in the future. The staff go out of their way to make you happy. The food in the restaurant is delicious and the breakfast is the best I've ever had in a hotel. If you don't stay here you are missing out on a fabulous hotel!!

Room Tip: I stayed in Room 350 and it was fabulous with a great view!!

We stayed here for our honeymoon and had a sea-view room. The room was nice, but the view was incredible. The breakfast every morning was delicious and again wonderful views. The staff was so friendly and the bartender (Gennaro) was fun! There were weddings every night and those could get loud, along with the guests when they went to bed. Overall, a great choice for our honeymoon

Room Tip: Sea View would be the only way to go
