My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Mediterraneo as the last leg of our honeymoon and we were completely disappointed. We had a garden view room, which was a small loft style room with the AC unit on the lower level, resulting in hot, stuffy nights of terrible sleep. The garden room actually meant a few flower pots in the alley. The hotel was located too far out of Sorrento to be convenient - it took us 25 minutes to walk to Sorrento, dealing with lots of traffic and intermittent sidewalks the whole way. The hotel shuttle gets you close but won't get you back unless you finish dinner by 7pm and the buses seem to run on their own unpredictable schedule. Given our status as garden view room occupants, we had to pay 22 Euro for beach passes (per day)...which did not include an umbrella - even though the beach was empty, they took our umbrella away as we were not entitled to shade. The bathroom was TINY and dirty - opened shampoos and soaps were all over the bathroom. Maid service was awful and late - we were only given once towel on more than one occasion. The only good thing about this hotel is the pool, which is very nice. Sorrento itself is great and in the future, we will definitely stay closer to town. We stayed in Taormina and Amalfi in earlier legs of our trip and were absolutely satisfied. We felt like second class people here - we certainly do not recommend this hotel.

I stayed in this hotel a couple of weeks ago.
Overall - fantastic hotel but more 3 star then 4 star. Here is a balanced review of the hotel:

Rooms - very small; we asked for an upgrade to a suite but they have no suites in the hotel. So we stayed in a sea view and the view is fantastic. 1st we ended up with 2 double beds joined as one (being a couple it wasn't suitable), so after one night on our request mattress was changed to a queen size without an issue.

Service - very friendly. Everyone was happy to attend to any question / issue we had.

Location - its about a 20 min walk to Sorrento main area which we didn't mind. For a single traveller would strongly recommend staying closer to town as a walk down dark streets at night could be a bit intimidating.
Hotel has access to the beach which is VERY FAMILY ORIENTATED, heaps of kids. So if you are after romantic quite time this hotel is probably not for you. Pool though was very quite and relaxing

Pool - lovely looking and good size. fairly quite.

Food - probably our only complaint - food is VERY BASIC, more 2-3 star then 4 star. Odeuvrs served by the bar with the drinks in the afternoon were practically unedible; breakfast super simple - stale croissants, cheap ham, bad coffee., cheapest fruit.

Another minus - hotel IS VERY NOISY! if you are a light sleeper this hotel is not for you. You can here kids play across the road till very late, music playing from hotel next door, motorinos driving past, wheels spinning, etc till all hours of the night. There was never a quite pieceful night (we stayed for 8 nights), so keep it in mind. Hotel is on a little road but its a main road for buses, etc.

Consierge recommended us a couple of restaurants which were fantastic! Try restaurant Sophia; we loved it!

Overall - we had a great time. Would recommend to friends. next time will probably stay in one of the luxury hotels closer to the town though.

Returned to this hotel having enjoyed a wonderful stay here five years ago. Every aspect of our ten days exceeded our expectations. Without exception the staff are warm and friendly and go the extra mile at all times to fulfil the guests' requirements. Would recommend for families, couples and singles of any age. Food and service fantastic. Rooms large, clean and well-equipped. Fabulous facilities. Brilliantly situated within walking distance of centre of Sorrento but away from the crowds. Cannot fault this hotel. All staff speak excellent English as well as other languages. One of, if not the, best hotels we have ever stayed at.

My parents, husband, and I stayed at the Hotel Mediterraneo during our trip to Sorrento. First to mention, is that the hotel is not actually in Sorrento and if I went back I would probably choose to stay in the city area. The view of the water across the street is absolutely beautiful and that might be harder to find in the city proper. The hotel was nice but needed some updating. The interior of the building, rooms, and pool area were very nice. However, the rooms would profit well from some new furniture (bed was very uncomfortable) and the outside of the building needs some cleaning and a coat of paint. I was a little disappointed with my "sea view room" as the sea view was across the street and a little blocked by trees and other buildings. The breakfast each morning was really nice. The views from the top floor were amazing!

Great room on 3rd floor at the front overlooking Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. Ideal location for catching the bus into town and coach trips. A small road in front of the hotel but not too intrusive. Hotel staff were all exceptionally friendly and efficient. Very helpful in reception. The twin room is on the small side and had shower only (which could do with updating) but the views made up for this. The room was kept very clean and daily new towels and bed linen. Restaurant served very good breakfasts and dinners, lucky if you can get a table on the veranda (fabulous views) , see reception or restaurant boss to pre-book. The pool bar is very good and lunches quite reasonable, try the genuine oven baked pizzas (mmmm). Pool area is clea and tidy although the small pool needed a little attention. Evening entertainment, keyboard player or guitarist excellent, easy listening background music. Taking everything into consideration, definitely 4 star. We will go back. There is a lift down to the "beach" but try to use it before school holidays.
