This is one of my favourite restaurants in Scalea and I eat here on a regular basis. The lunchtime 'work menu' is only €10 for 2 courses with 1/4 litre of wine or 1/2 litre of water. There is the choice of meat or fish for each course. They also do excellent desserts. The owners are very welcoming and the service is very very good.

We've known this restaurant since 2007 and we always pay it a visit when in Scalea.

Recently, these good folks have joined the welcome trend of offering a "workman's lunch" of first course and second course for 10 Euro. However, our first experiences of the establishment was dinner and we found it a bit pricey, with good quality food but, not as remarkable as that other establishments in the town. In our book, the fair can be classified essentially as fusion: recipes that recall traditional cuisine but with variations that attempt to modernize, lighten and, perhaps, internationalize each dish. This does not always work for me, though. At one of these lunches for example, an offer of first course was trofie alla genovese. Perhaps the genovese part of the name referred to the "trofie" which is a genoese/ligurian noodle but, according to the waitress, this was supposed to be pasta with pesto alla genovese. Needless to say, the reality was nothing like pesto genovese but, rather a creamy sauce with some basil in it.

On the other hand, I found the strozzapreti al pesce spada (handmade spiral noodles with swordfish) very enjoyable while, my better half found the dish somewhat bland. We often have grilled mediterranean veggies for second and this is consistently good.

Thre is usually a fair wine selection although local wines are unfortunately under-represented.

So, you just have to try it out and form your own opinion of the food but, as far as we are concerned, we'll keep going back to Vigri when in need for good, consistent and, sometimes, intriguing quality.

We had two great lunches here. They had a "working menu", 2 course lunch with wine. There were always two versions of the primi and secondi. Warm welcome and good service when we ask in English and some Italian words.
There is much love in the food.
I regret that we did not eat here at night too. Fortunately, perhaps we are near Scalea 2012, and a strong reason to stay a few days in Scalea again is to eat at Ristorante Vigri.
