“Fantastic value!”
Reviewed 22 January 2013

My husband and I spent a week at this hotel - the kind of place that it is very difficult to find in a ski resort.

Location:Great for novice skiers as it is opposite one ski school with free shuttle to the nursery slopes and for the more experienced skiers as it is a 5 min walk to one of the main ski lifts that access the Sella Ronda circuit.

Rooms: We stayed in the cheapest room (room 112) on the 4th floor. The room was spacious albeit with low ceiling areas, comfortable bed and a lot of storage. The bathroom had basic features, some cracked tiles around the bathtub, basic toiletries which are not refilled. We found remains of toothpaste inside one of the drawers underneath the sink. Sleep quality is good - one can hear the faint noise of a boiler late at night and early in the morning.

Common parts: tastefully decorated, just a few hunting trophies. Nice bar at the entrance offering various drinks and appetizers pre-dinner. Restaurant area offering view of the slopes with a separate area for families!

Spa: Good size plunge pool, nice jaccuzzi, etc but best of all is the panoramic view of the slopes!

Breakfast: great choice of breads, hams, etc. Only disappointment is the lack of fresh juice and limited amount of fresh fruit.

Dinner: great choice of menu (often 3-4 options), some of the dishes of Michelin star quality! Well priced wine list with many local wines on offer.

Service: friendly and professional. They accommodated a couple of friends

Overall: it could easily be a 5 star hotel but then it would probably be much more expensive than it is!

We spent the weekend at the Sun Valley hotel for my birthday. The hotel is in a great position for ski hire and skiing and the hotel itself felt very luxurious. Our comfort room was very spacious and everything looked brand new and spotless. The staff were friendly and attentive and the atmosphere welcoming.
The swimming pool is stunning and the spa facilities could not be better.
The food was beautifully prepared..only the vegetarian option , a plate of cheeses, could have been improved on, maybe with by an omelette or soufflé. We look forward to returning as soon as we can.
Th skiing in the Val Gardena and surrounding valleys is the best we have found anywhere so far.

Room Tip: We had a comfort room which was wonderful and would be fine also for a couple with a child

An extremely competently run enterprise. Spotlesly clean and superior service, at times maybe a bit overwhelming but that may well be a cultural thing. Food is aspirational gourmet, competent and generally high standard but towards day seven I really craved a bloody steak / grilled sausage / pizza. Wine list is fantastic, pragmatically priced and exceptional value, no wrong choices in 7 days. Fabio made it very personal, Dana, Dimitry and Sandro were attentive, kind and all smiles.

Some minor bugs, mostly easily fixable, others more of a lifestyle / expectation ones.

No WiFi in rooms - this is an almost zero cost fix and an annoyance. Internet in lobby limited to 1 device per person is baffling - mostly every family travels with a smartphone each, a couple of tablets and a laptop or three. Internet today is a commodity like running water and electricity, should be free with no limitations.

There are natural limitations to common areas driven by building design and layout but we felt the lobby was a bit tight.

Last, all 4 of us, including 2 teenage childen stayed in a 33sqm junior suite (only one available) and paid more per person than we would have paid staying in 2 standard or comfort rooms (double the space, bathrooms and privacy). I appreciate it was an informed decision but still felt slightly shortchanged although this seems to be the standdard practice in Val Gardena in high season.

Finally, on a humorous note, they seem to be pretty keen on nakedness in the wellness centre - not sure what the story is there - cutoff age is 14 years so presumably plenty of kids not too comfortable with the naked human form in all its variation :) In all fairness the policy was not strictrly enforced and all of us made use of the spa and found gratefully that mostly everyone else either wore swimsuits or covered sufficiently.

This is meant as constructive criticism, the establishment is near flawaless and would be very happy to visit again.

Excellent hotel in Selva - very close to town centre, lifts & bus stop. All of the staff
were very helpful, would recommend val de lunga for a beautiful walk. Would also
recommend Cafe Mozart in the village centre.

Room Tip: We had a junior suite in the main building it was very roomy and quiet.

We stayed at hotel sun valley for 2 nights on Sep.
it seems like they are thinking in advance on everything you need.
The comfort room was big and very comftable with huge bed and nice view of selva and the mountains. The best thing was the food. It is gourmet. We had our 1.5 years boy with us and every dinner they always made sure our son will get his meal first and fresh.
Perfect place to stay in the Dolomites.

As many previous reviewers have highlighted the skiing in Selva Gardena, we would like to add that the Sun Valley hotel was also an excellent choice for summer walking in the Dolomites. We received a very warm welcome on arrival. Advice about suitable walks was provided by helpful reception staff and we were treated with courtesy by all the attentive staff with whom we came in contact. Our room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. A varied dinner menu catered for all tastes and the breakfast buffet was superb. For those who travel without a car, the bus service from Bergamo airport at weekends was an added bonus, saving time and energy. The hotel can be highly recommended.

Room Tip: We stayed in the main building which was quiet; our room had a lovely view, facing the village and m...

We stayed in Hotel Sun Valley during the last week of March 2012. The service, food and accommodation was excellent. The pool and jacuzzi was spotless, and great after a hard day's skiing. The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome, and arranged a late dinner on the day of our arrival, and an early breakfast on the day of our departure. The only small complaint is about the noise some mornings between 2 and 3 am, when a nearby night club closes down, and the patrons stand outside laughing and shouting. But of course that is no fault of the hotel, and would also affect the residents of other hotels in the area.
