“Wonderful hospitality!”
Reviewed 8 February 2014 via mobile

A very warm welcome from Susy when we arrived for our annual skiing holiday. Soon became apparent that nothing is too much trouble for Susy and her highly professional and friendly staff. Food and service excellent and and the personal attention given to each guest by all the staff impressive. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. Wonderful pool and spa area, just need to make sure all the guests respect the house rules.

Great location , good food and very friendly staff. Our 5/6 visit in last 10 years and just as good as ever. Staff all speak good English and service levels are very good. We will return as no downsides to the holiday.

Our third visit to this hotel in four years and, once again, the welcome, service, food & facilities are all top quality. Suzy & her loyal staff make everyone feel "at home". There is a definite family atmosphere and many guests were returning like us, so it was nice to see familiar faces and catch up. Nothing is too much trouble and all the staff are accommodating, eager to please and never without a smile or a joke. The hotel is in the middle of the village directly opposite the Champonoi lift. Rooms are well appointed with plenty of storage space for all our ski gear. Opening windows & radiators easily regulated to our own temperature. Towels are changed morning & night with plenty of toiletry supplies. Beds are turned down each evening with some nice little touches. If, like us, you sleep witht he window open, then choose a room at the back because traffic can be a bit noisy first thing in the morning. Food is extremely varied and Sergio, head waiter, is very knowledgeable of all the dishes, not only content, but how it's made. Pre-dinner drinks in the bar are served with delicious canapes, but leave room for dinner! All in all, another very enjoyable stay and looking forward to going back in summer 2015 to walk the areas we were skiing.

Four of us stayed at Hotel Aaritz for six days in late January 2014 in four separate rooms on the second floor for our annual 'boys' ski trip. I had room 224 which is a lovely double room with comfortable bed, lounge seating area, ensuite shower room and a balcony overlooking the road behind the hotel. An electronic safe is in the ample wardrobe space. The room is directly above the dining room and kitchens.

We stayed on a half board basis. You are allocated your own table for your stay. The restaurant is very nice with windows overlooking the mountain on the Ciampinoi cable car side of the slopes. The choice for breakfast was very good. Plenty of cereals, bread, pastries, jams, fruit and yoghurt. Hot choice with bacon, eggs, frankfurter sausages and scrambled eggs. A chef is on hand to cook omelettes on request. Breakfast is available from 7.30am.

Dinner was available from 7.30pm each evening with an excellent five course choice of freshly cooked foods including lovely pasta, fresh fish and fresh meat dishes. Some of our highlights included spaghetti with clams, sea bass, mixed grill, lamb chops and an excellent salad bar with gorgeous sardines. There is a wide selection of puddings available with Creme brûlée, Creme caramel and ice creams. Cheese and biscuits were all available each night. There is also an excellent choice of wines available at reasonable prices.

We all really enjoyed the excellent food and good service in the restaurant.

The hotel has a wonderful spa facility with very hot and warm saunas, steam room, shower treatments, foot spa, jacuzzi and lovely swimming pool. We enjoyed visiting here each evening after a hard day skiing.

The bar and reception area is very warm, well furnished and welcoming. With excellent service from the staff. We attended a cocktail party hosted by the hotel team which was good fun.

Ski wise, the hotel is in an excellent position right opposite the Ciampinoi cable car. It is also within 250m walk of the costabella chair lift. The ski busses stop right outside the hotel. The Aaritz has its own ski depot with heated racks for your boots and individual (lockable) ski racks for your skis and poles. There is security coded panel access to the ski depot from outside the front of the hotel.

Great hotel, great position, great food and great service. Simple!

One of the best hotels we have every stayed in - customer service was outstanding.

Rooms were spotless. All staff were very friendly, always smiling and helpful, quickly switching to speaking English when they realised we were the "English Family". Nothing was too much trouble - laying out a table by the fireplace for us to play cards on every night was a special touch. Our grown up children particularly enjoyed the spa centre. Breakfast was exceptional, enhanced by the wonderful view from our table by the window - which is now our screen saver !!

Thank you Suzi and all your staff for such an enjoyable and relaxing summer holiday - despite getting soaked by the unexpected rain at the end of August !! We look forward to seeing you again this summer.

First the bad to get it out of the way. The dining room and bed rooms are too hot! Open the windows and doors and cool the place down! We slept with the balcony door open. Unfortunately at 3:00 a.m. I was awoken each night by the drunks coming back from the disco. I thought they were stopped just below my window for extended discussions. Instead I saw that they were hanging out in the parking lot of the apartment building behind the hotel for their extended drunken banter. I think the mountains act as a kind of amphitheater amplifying the sound. I would have told them to be quite but I doubt they would have understood me. Lastly, the ski storage lockers need to be replaced. They are confusing to use and most guests place their skis and poles in improperly making it more difficult for other guests.

Now, excepting for above, I am still giving Aaritz an excellent rating. Our party of 10 (two families with teenage children had an outstanding 8 night stay over Christmas. Hotel management, Suzi is an excellent hotelier. She is on site from morning to night making sure that everyone is well satisfied. Fabio (at the front desk) Daniele (at the bar) and Sergio, our server at dinner made sure that everyone wanted for nothing. We enjoyed playing trivial pursuit in Italian with drinks after dinner in the beautiful lobby area. It didn't matter that we don't speak Italian. Breakfast buffet had so many choices with eggs as you want them. Dinners were outrageous! Five course meals with each course more delicious than the previous. So many choices and off menu choices for the kids. Bar bill for drinks during the week and wines at dinner was one-half what we paid in Zermatt two years prior, and yet despite my best intentions my drinking was not less.

The rooms were clean and decently appointed. The shower was a bit tight. The wellness center was great fun after skiing. The pool, saunas and relaxing in these fantastic reclining chair hit the spot after skiing. The hotel is situate across from the gondola. Very convenient. If I have an opportunity to get back to Selva I will definitely return to the Aaritz.

I loved this hotel. We travelled with friends, each family with three teenagers. The Aaritz is perfectly located, right in the centre of town and across the street from the main gondola. The food is fantastic. Each morning we were treated to a generous breakfast buffet and each night we were treated to memorable 5 course meals. The service was superb. If there was anything that the kids wanted that was not on the menu, the chef was happy to prepare for them, One evening when my son was sick in our room, Susy(the owner) came to our table to see if we would like to have soup sent up to him. This was without our asking, and illustrates how well we were taken care of. The spa is stunning with a beautifully designed pool and wellness area enhanced by incrediable lighting. The hotel rooms are simple but very clean and comfortable. The lobby, bar space and dining room are very well appointed and extremely inviting. We would go down to the bar each night for a cocktail before dinner, and it was always a treat, Chirstmas eve was a very special evening with a beautiful cocktail party before dinner, and lovely dinner and activities after. The only issue i had was that the dining room got very hot during dinner time.
