“Excellent structure, something more could be expected”
Reviewed 3 September 2012

The Hotel is 5 Stars, LHW branded and located in Valgardena, one of the most hospitable venues any traveller could visit. Given these premises, prices and expectations are inevitably high. I spent some days in this hotel 5 years ago and decided to go back this summer with my wife and daughter (2 ys) and couple of friends with one kid. We stayed 8 days, half board, Aug 2012 The following is my plus and minus list: I have been in some others LHW hotels in Italy, Europe, Asia, UAE therefore I feel entitled to compare Alpenroyal with its "peers".

PLUS: the stucture is extremelly pleasant, always clean, a few facilities (ie: the oustide swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi) are top quality and frankly hard to find elsewhere. Food: dinner was delicious, with appealing menus, food requests for kids were prompltly met. Excellent cakes are served for free in the afternoon. The senior waiter taking care of us could have not been more friendly (and patient with our kids!). Rooms are generally well decored and comfortable. Miniclub was supposed to be for 3ys+, but in some quite evenings we were allowed to leave our daughters alone with the hotel baby-sitter.

MINUS: Location is not that convenient, need for a 10 mins walk to reach Selva. Breakfast is undoubtedly no more than average (again, for 5*, LHW), such as some gym facilities. I do accept the fact that junior waiters must be trained on the ground, but in some circumstances way too many unexperienced trainees were serving dinner. I am not that convinced about the hotel pet policy. Finally, and more importantly, in this level structures, you always feel in the position for having dedicated attentions. It is not the case here; a sense of uneasiness, due to bizarre and self-imposed rigidities (strictiness about shuttle service, cake serving time and many other minor issues), was pervasive and never encountered in any other LHW.

This was the 3th time we stayed a week in Alpenroyal. As before, we felt home immediately and enjoyed the pools, saunas and other great services of the hotel. The hotel is fantastically located in the Dolomites, a place for long hikes, or great mountain biking. We enjoyed as well the 18th hole golf course in Castelrotto. Satisfied and tired after intensive days, every dinner was a culinary experience - the wine list is impressive by the way. We are already looking forward to our next stay. A welmeant 'grazie' to all the team of Alpenroyal. Laura, Marijke & Luc W.

We have stayed at AlpenRoyal for 1 week and had a great time. Service is very good. Rooms are very good as well.

Reception staff advised us about the choice of family activities and organized paragliding and climbing course for us. Even our children (10, 9, 7 and 4) loved the paragliding!

The hotel is centrally located for beautiful hikes in the Dolomites, although we have chosen the hikes on short to longer driving distance from the hotel.

The indoor and outdoor pools are great, both warm. In the outdoor pool there are several jacuzzis and a circling jetstream part, which our children loved to play in with the provided swimming boards and tubes. Furthermore, our children also enjoyed the play area at the kids club, table tennis etc.

Food is very tasteful and varies a lot. We have enjoyed the gourmet restaurant 1 night, absolutely worth the Michelin star.
Our first dinner we loved the aubergine meal and requested that specific dish for another night in advance. But the chef was not willing to make that again specifically for my son and me. That was the only disappointment.

Besides this inflexible chef, the staff is very friendly and helpful.
We would recommend this hotel for your stay in the Dolomites!

We have been twice now to this 5 star resort during the summer and we have found it a good value, but we avoid high season. Our rooms were well sized and comfortable and families can obtain a suite of 2 adjoining rooms. Bathrooms in double rooms are large, and suites have a massage shower. Rooms are comfortable and beds in double rooms are very comfortable--not so for too soft beds in single rooms that are part of the suites. Upgrades are offfered when bookings permit. For our half pension, the hotel restaurant had a lavish breakfast with many cooked and healthy choices, and consistently excellent meals that come from the same kitchen as their one star Michelin restaurant. Service was excellent, the wine list extensive with the expected 100% markup on the wines I was most familiar with. The hotel has indoor and outdoor (heated) pools and hot tubs, and saunas in the spa (reasonably priced massages and other services) and near the outdoor pool and hot tub, and a chill out zone. Small gym, putting green, billiard room off a welcoming bar area, Outdoor eating area for breakfast and lunch. Garage. The hotel is on the main road into and out of Selva, on one side, and a road towards Santa Cristina on the other, but the interior grounds are quiet and mostly shielded from the view of the road and any noise, and there are spectacular mountain views from the grounds, the chill out zone and the rooms. Many rooms have a terrace. The front desk was hlepful in connecting our son with an experienced guide for "via ferrata" (iron) trails which require equipment and he had two great days of high mountain climbs. This is a family owned hotel with pleasant owners who run things to high standards, and several employees have been there for many years which is very positive. Our only complaint was their wifi system that once you join it will keep ringing up charges (by the minute) as long as your iphone is on wifi or imac is on airport even if you are not using internet since there is no log in/log out function and no offer of a fixed internet price for the stay; the front desk immediately and cheerfully adjusted what could have been a large internet bill once we had the sense to check our fees after a few days and turn off wifi when not in use. This is a well run resort hotel with high standards and very comfortable amenities, and we hated leaving after our week's stay. Highly recommended.

The enjoyment of the Alpenroyal begins even before you arrive at the hotel as you will be greeted by the most stupendous views of spectacular mountain scenery as you drive up the valley towards Selva.
Having studied the excellent web site before arrival we were pleasantly to find the lay out of hotel even more striking than expected. The young ladies at check in were most efficient and our cases were wisked away while we enjoyed a complementary on the sunny terrace overlooking the splendid swimming pool.
On arrival at our suite (we had actually booked a superior room and were most gratified with the upgrade)we were highly delighted with the facilities which included a kingsized bed,2 bathrooms and a spacious sitting room with large flat screen television, both rooms leading to a fine terrace with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains.
Before dinner we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink in the bar where we met Fraccesco who looked after us during our stay in a most friendly and efficient manner and turned out to be an expert in matters relating to wine and drinks in general. He also provided us with complementary canapés which was another highlight of the evening.
The dinners at the Alpenroyal are of a very high standard and run to 4 courses with a selection of 3 choices at each together with a most extensive and reasonably priced wine list.
During our visit we were looked after by Monica who was as highly efficient as she was pleasant and greatly added to our evenings enjoyment.
We would certainly advise any guest to reserve a table for at least one evening at the separate Michelin starred restaurant where the food is both of superb quality and demonstrates the originality and flair of the chef Felice lo Basso. We were looked after by Gianlucca who could hold his own in any fine restaurant in the world.
All in all our stay at the Alpenroyal was one of the most memorable and we would have no hesitation in recommending this destination with the utmost confidence.

Staying alone given to corporate calls turns out to be very monotonous and to sherk off this irritating feel I often take short trips to nearby places with my family. This time the place was Selva Alta Val Gardena given to the huge reviews it had garnered. Alpenroyal was my premium choice for accommodation as it extended a splendid view of the Dolomites. Wrapped up in the laps of nature Alpenroyal extended the leisure that corporate bugs like us yearn for and the cool respite from the scorching temperatures of the city are add on. With artistically laid out rooms that utter grandeur at their every corner and a large window pane to gaze at the sprawling lawn and the snow-peaked ranges, Alpenroyal lives upto all its speculations. The dainty dishes and the hospitality that stays at your service at every beck and call is indeed commendable. 4 cheers to the spectacular hotel...

Monotonous working schedules get the better of your adolscence and each year keeps piling onto the existing boredom and freaky robotic behaviour. Desperately seeking for a change I planned a trip to Selva Alta Val Gardena along with few of my colleagues and landed up at Alpenroyal for the next few days. Being the closest holiday spot from our cosmopolitan city this turned out to be the best weekend getaway option. Alpenroyal turned out to be a surprise package. Incorporating world class comfort amenities the hotel portrayed the epitome of luxury. Francesco, the head barman needs a special mention. We planned for a crazy booze party at the hotel's sprawling lawn and Francesco just laid out the exact settings to sweep us off our feet. Perfect settings with the most optimum hospitality details.
