We have also been here several times. It is a very special place because it is a little hard to get there-. the walk up is relatively long but the food and scenery are great. Because of its location it is less crowded and more intimate. This gives it an edge when hiking...

Beautiful trail with tough last part, but worth the effort because of the beauty around it. If you have it in you, you should extend hike to Rifugio Carducci or overnight and then go to Locatelli before coming back to Sesto from the back side. t

The chalet Zsigmondy Comici we visited during our circular trail around three mountain huts in July 2012. This circular trail is a beautiful and not too strenuous walk, although it can be quite long. It takes an average of 7 to 9 hours to complete, according to speed and length of breaks.
Our trip started from the car park at the end of the Val Fiscalina. The trail then leads first to the Rifugio Fondovalle (1,526 m), and starts to climb soon afterwards. Rifugio Zsigmondy-Comici was gained in about 3 hours. Overwhelming landscape, where the harsh rocks of the Dolomites with the „Sexten Sun Dial“ upraise from the green valley floor of the Fiscalina. These mountains are a real haven for the flora. They can be considered almost like open-air botanic gardens.
Rifugio Zsigmondy Comici (2224 m) lies at the foot of the northern wall of the Croda dei Toni (Zwölferkofel) and the eastern slope of the Cima Undici (Elferkofel).
At the end of our ascent, the cottage appeared as a majestic building high on the rocky knob. From the Forcella, however, chalet seemed little box somewhere deep in the valley.
The first relaxation after tiring ascent up the hill we passed on the terrace overlooking this amazing landscape with water and white wine. We enjoyed a breathtaking view not only of the surrounding panorama but also of the high walls of the Croda dei Toni and the Cima Undici. The cottage is great crossroads of trails. The whole range is a superb area for walking and hiking, with trails of all degrees of difficulty, from the easy amble to the most strenuos 'via ferrata' , accessible to experienced mountaineers and rock climbers only. From the hut starts one end of the famous traverse known as “Strada degli Alpini”.

Cottage itself is nice and cozy. Capacity of the cottage: 40 beds and 40 pallets in dormitory. Clean rooms and not "track". Bathroom (shared) on each floor, and even a couple of hot showers available for those arriving .Catering service is fast and efficient, but the food is nothing special in the sense that we got to eat a lot better than ever shelter. The staff is friendly and helpful. We have received information about the conditions of the paths, on the weather and the via ferratas from mountain cottager.Hikers will appreciate a possibility of early breakfast at 6:30. They also accept credit cards.
Continuing our hiking tour, we followed trail no. 102 to the mountain hut Rifugio Pian di Cengia hut (2528 m) ,crossing small flats of flower-filled herbfields. From the refuge follow trail 101, this leaded us along the debris slopes of Bödenknoten towards Forcella di Toblin. The path goes down a little bit steep and than straight on to the Drei Zinnen hut. From there we descended to Altensteintal valley (marker 102) on a trail that leads past the two shimmering Laghi dei Piani lakes. From Altensteintal valley we proceeded back to Rifugio Fondovalle in Fischleinboden.
