“Nice hotel with some problems”
Reviewed 10 February 2014

The hotel is nice, its wellness is even beautiful. The problems we experienced (and in our view useless problems) related to the allover hospitality of the owner´s family. Not all adults need the treatment of a child (opening hours of the bar without disturbing anyone, unreasonable comments and requests to the clients).

This is a lovely property- very friendly owners & staff, very clean & great location. The food & spa services are also very good. However, unless you are traveling with children or want to be surrounded by adorable (& usually quite vocal) children, you may want to consider other accommodations. In other words, this is not an ideal destination for a romantic &/or adult getaway. The rooms are spacious but dated.

During the Christmas holidays, we spent a week in the Koenigswarte apartments and had our meals in the main Rainer hotel. The lodging is modern and clean--perfect for our family of four. It had a room with bunk beds, a king bed in the bedroom and also a pullout sofa.

Breathtakingly beautiful views of the Dolomites and ski runs through the window!!! The hotel has recently expanded it's spa area and has indoor and outdoor pools, multiple saunas and a steam room. We really enjoyed this area after a full day of skiing.

There was alot of snow this year and you could ski out of the hotel and catch a T-bar to the Rotwand/Croda Rossa ski area. You could also ski back to the hotel via the Signaue run. My boys also loved the 6 km sled run which was open for night sledding while we were there.
Check out the ski runs on you tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25oeSuPzVZc.

Unfortunately the diesel froze solid in the car we had rented in Venice so we were left without transportation around New Years (Hertz was absolutely no help...). The Rainer family stepped in and actually lent us one of their cars to get around for 3 days. This was really unbelievable hospitality and we are very appreciative. We later took a van to Innsbruck and a train to Zurich from where we flew back to California, so the car issue wasn't the catastrophe it could've been.
Thanks again to the Rainers!!

The food at the hotel was excellent and the wine recommendations fantastic and reasonably priced. We had some great Vernatsch, Pino Nero and Lagrein wines among others.
Although the hotel was full and bustling with small children, the Koenigswarte apartments across the street were quiet and serene and had a nice kitchen and very modern bathrooms.

The skiing at the hills in the area was fantastic and we look forward to returning and doing some cross-country and snowshoeing. We usually ski in Deer Valley or Lake Tahoe, but have to say the cross-cultural mix, cuisine, ski conditions and natural beaty made this our best family ski trip ever.

The towns of Moos and Sesto are charming and we did a day trip to Cortina which is a beautiful town. Large portions of the Dolomiti area are national park and Unesco protected nature sites.

We look forward to going back and enjoying the Dolomites again!

It was the first time we visited this area and thanks to the warm hospitality and great service and the most wonderful view out of our window, we had a great time. It was relaxing, and a real discovery of a beautiful landscape. The room was spacious , clean , and very comfortable.
The menu and choice of food, even " to much"...but excellent.
A place to go back and next time longer than the 5 days we had! Thanks!

Room Tip: the backside of the hotel for the terrace and view.

I have spent my holidays in the area for many years, and have always enjoyed the beautiful scenery, great skiing in the winter and fantastic trekking in the summer. I was curious about this hotel I had always seen from the outside while passing by and it was a real disappointment and also a source of embarassment as we had brought along some friends (two teenagers with us, so no children involved). No welcome at all upon arrival, almost a cold shoulder upon check in. Very old furniture inside, the rooms too; everything needs some good refurbishing. What was really bad is that the whole hotel was full of flies going everywhere in the restaurant area, in the bar, etc… When we complained about it we were told that in the mountains there are cows who attract flies… Like I said, I have been in the area many times and have NEVER seen flies in a hotel, even less in a supposedly 4S hotel. The pool was new and ok. Dinner was ok, with a wide choice of food, if only there were no flies all over the Bauern buffet... We paid a very high price even though in July, and I was really looking forward to going home.

A friend recommended this hotel and we're glad he did. We have 2 children, 5 and 4 year olds and for the first time in a long while we had a vacation that enabled us all to relax and have fun. The kids were really well cared for and learned to ski right at the hotel where there is a beginner hill with a treadmill lift. We signed them up for the kids' group lunch and afternoon kids club so we were able to ski most of the day. The kids had so much fun we had a hard time getting them out of the play area at the end day. There were plenty of activities for the whole family and the kids really enjoyed the pool also. The food was also very good. We did have a problem when we arrived as the room we booked was mistakenly given to someone else (my husband is allergic to dust mites so had requested a room with wooden floors) but they apologized and gave us several alternative options and a discount so I would say that they made up for the error adequately. We will very likely go back next year for the ski week and may go in the summer as well.

I stayed in this hotel in December, the week before Christmas with my family (wife and 2 daughters) for our winter vacation.
On the arrival the Rainer Family gave us a very warm welcome, we said to them that we never been skiing and so they give us a lot tips on what to do.

The room was fantastic because it was a room with two rooms and directly in front of the exit to the mini ski slope for children.
The rooms were really clean and big, with a T.V. in each room.
And if you get offered a room in the -3 floor you are right next to the swimming pool.

The food was excellent, every day always different menu and all fresh. Children have their own menu for them and some dessert and a nice after dinner activity for them. The service in the restaurant was friendly and excellent. Aurelio always offers really tasty wine.

At the hotel you may sign you children for ski lessons: you may sign you children for private ski lessons that cost more or you may sign your children for group ski lessons that costs less.

We had a super duper fun and relaxing holiday at Family Hotel Rainer!

Thanks to the Family Rainer and all the stuff,

Room Tip: best rooms are in -3 floor.
