“Decent Stay w/ Trafalgar. Don't get room 311!”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon on a Trafalgar tour (Jewels of Italy) for 2 nights. The hotel itself is tucked away about 20 minutes from Florence in a quiet neighborhood. As we pulled in we loved the gardens and the rustic Tuscany feel of the hotel. It did not feel like we were in a big city in anyway.

We immediately walked around the gardens and it was quiet and peaceful. We really enjoyed it.

We were in room 311 which was on the first floor but up a flight of stairs at the end of a corridor. The room itself was a bit old. The TV was difficult to figure out but despite what other reviews said, I was able to use the small remote to turn on the TV (after manually applying power) and then turn on the SKY TV box.

We had a giant half circle window overlooking the corner of the courtyard which was really cool. The room was a bit musty. The bathroom was spacious but the shower almost immediately flooded. The water did not drain and quickly filled up. There were two pipes coming out of the wall with white caps on them. I curiously twisted one cap off...bad move. It spewed black water out.

We did not get WiFi in our room but in the lobby and front of the courtyard it wasn't bad. Beers were cheaper at the pool and that area seemed really nice, though we only spent an hour or so there.

The breakfast was below average. We did not eat any of the hot foods, coffee from a machine and the pastries were just okay. The included dinner with the tour through the hotel was not good and the dessert they served was terrible. It was supposed to be a creme caramel custard and it resembled scrambled eggs...

Now to the first night there... We are pretty sure our room was haunted! At about 3 AM we heard two very large *crashes* into our window back to back. It awoke both of us and it was nothing like the sound of the doors slamming that we would easily hear through the walls. I looked outside the window to find nothing and confirmed the big window as properly latched. Then again around 6 AM we heard the same noise! It was sunrise at this point and again, we saw nothing... It really freaked us out.

We asked other group members who were below us (on the ground level floor) if they heard anything and no one heard a thing.

If we came on my own, we may stay again but would not pick room 311!

We stayed here 2 nights in June 2014 as part of a tour party. The ground floor room we stayed in was a loft style with queen bed in the loft and a single bed down stairs. The bathroom was good - no bath tub, the shower sliding doors were somewhat awkward to open and close as the doors on 2 sides would open and close meeting at the corner, I really thought at times the doors won't slid open after a shower.
The breakfast was disappointing coffee machine kept breaking down, the scrambled eggs tasted artificial - maybe powdered stuff. The gardens were really the highlight of this hotel it was simply beautiful, there was a swimming pool but it was closed for maintenance while we were there. Free WiFi but not in the rooms.

Yes, the garden is beautiful with nice trees but the rooms have few issues:
the tv does not work properly because it has a sky decoder but without the sky channel
the shower is with no base so you are at risk of flooding
Moreover the pool need to be a bit better maintained (the cypresses needles are nice but not in the pool water)
Staff in the average range

Very rustic, quaint hotel. Located on a beautiful property surrounded by trees, flowers, bushes... very nice. Smelled a little musty. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. The shower we had was a stand up shower. Would prefer a tub. We couldnt get the TV to work at all. Our tour group was attacked overnight by what we assume was gnats. Everyone woke up to bites all over. Just because there are no screens on the windows does not mean that there are no bugs!! hahah

Tour group stayed here for two nights. BEAUTIFUL grounds surround the hotel. Courteous check-in and clean rooms. There were three in my party and our room had a loft--twin bed below and queen bed up in loft. Keep shower curtain inside bathtub--water comes out on floor during shower if you are not careful. Air conditioning did not work but a fan was provided for upstairs--still very warm. Twin bed was right under the window and it was cool enough at night. Windows had to be opened for air and that meant mosquitoes. Plentiful bug bites in the morning on all of us. Bring bug spray. Breakfast was okay and cappuccino machine was slow. Location of hotel prohibits it from being near Florence sights. Would not recommend this hotel

I just loved the atmosphere of the hotel and the grounds. As we had a car the situation suited us very well (the local town is within walking distance and worth a look). They put us in a massive room which was very clean and comfortable. Only bad point was that the room was right beside Reception, so noisy and not very private. Fabulous restaurant on site. Menu in Italian, which took us a wee while to figure out, but it wouldn't have mattered what we had ....the food was the best I've ever had. Great breakfast too. Friendly staff. Would definitely stay again.

This hotel is right out of the 1930's and may have had a 4star rating then but not now. The staff were friendly and accomidating, we switched rooms because the one they gave us was dark, damp and had 2 toddler sized beds we could push together. WiFi in the rooms was spotty even in the main building, none in the other. No air conditioning fans only which didn't really help and there were Mosquitos so you couldn't open the windows. Long bus ride to Florence and breakfast was terrible, coffee machine took forever. Wouldn't stay here again.
