“Disappointing”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

Having stayed here a couple of years ago, we were really looking forward to a repeat performance. We were disappointed to find that many of our earlier experiences were not to be repeated. One of our fondest memories was of the fabulous Bellini cocktails which were served at the bar. No longer the correct white peach, yellow will have to do, no pink liquor to give it just the right tint of colour, and service which was quite hard to come by on many occasions. Dinner is no longer served on the sidewalk out front of the hotel, where we once had a memorable meal of fresh fish, deftly deboned by a particularly competent waiter.
Our room is in the newer part of the hotel, very much smaller than our last, and terribly noisy. I am writing this review as I can't sleep for the noise of the television in the adjoining room, and people walking up and down the corridor. Bathroom noises from the room on the other side will no doubt wake us again in the morning.
Breakfast is still served out of doors under the trees which is a lovely way to start the day. Just don't ask for tea, as for when it is brought to the table you will find it to be only hottish water in a jug. I did get 1/2 litre of milk when I requested some for my tea though!
Air con is really quite loud and not very efficient, but the noise does assist with covering up so many of the other sounds intruding on the room.
One of the more expensive hotels in Sestri, but certainly no longer the experience it once was. We will not be staying here again.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

I traveled with my friends on holiday our last holidays...It was really a great experience with Grand Hotel Villa Balbi. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The hotel is spacious and well appointed. There is sense of elegance and history about the building and its decor. It is very well situated to the seaside, station and narrow streets with plenty of shops and Most important the "Eating places" :) Pool is also very nice and gardens are so lovely to have peaceful environment. The staff was extremely helpful and polite and always welcome with a huge smile on their face :). The Front desk staff were much fluent in English and helped us with sight seeing and suggested other places to visit. Amazing..Will sure stay here if I visit here again..Highly Recommended..

Bedroom was immaculate but dull - view however was stunning. Breakfast very disappointing both in quality of food and lack of interest from the waiters. Hotel is well positioned for exploring the town and has many restaurants nearby.
Could hear the baby in the suite next door all night. Wouldn't return but if they did a bit of work it would be wonderful.

(rate may vary from 100 to 400 depending from where you find that, like websites and so on). If you pay 400 or 300 euro, you don't get a good value)

Goods:
- gardens and location
- the nice villa at the entrance (hotel rooms are in another building)

Bads:
- room was small
- no sound isolation, you hear too much from other rooms and corridor
- maintenance could be iimproved

Rooms were pretty small and bathroom a bit old fashioned. Breakfast was included but no choice and very bad quality. Swimming pool is nice and relaxing and service at the pool was excellent. All together an average hotel for a sky rocket price

Stayed 6 nights at this peaceful and very comfortable hotel where the staff are really lovely. The location is fantastic - right on the sea front and close to the town centre. Breakfasts were delicious and served outside on the terrace surrounded by ancient trees set in the pretty gardens. The rooms are well furnished and have wonderful views of the mountains and the sea. However, felt let down by the dilapidated bathroom such as peeling enamel, shower doors don't close properly and the hook for the shower head doesn't work so you have to hold the shower in your hand - felt like an amateur plumber had tried to fix it and failed. But would stay here again because of the location and level of comfort of other aspects.

If you love to live an experience as it was travelling in the fifties when 'noblesse' loved to spend some days around the Tigullio Gulf. Don't miss the Baia del Silenzio too, but stay here. Spend two nights at Villa Balbi. We went there for 10 years and all the time we find excellence both with congress service and for family holidays. The rooms are really amazing and the garden is lovely. As we return here every April we saw also years after year that they spend time energy and money to update provide excellent service to customers. You will love it and come back. The restaurant is Italian style so perfect and if the weather allows you can eat in the garden by the pool. What else? Unplugge yourself and spend a very relaxing time here at Villa Balbi.
