Auberge de la Ferme is not only a hotel; it has guest rooms, restaurants, shops, a museum, a tourist train, an animal park, a brewery, meeting facilities, .... you name it - they have it. We stayed in the new superior rooms and they were really nice. A jacuzzi for 2 in our bathroom and a really modern rain shower was all we could wish for. Although we found the room a bit over-priced (110€/person/night). The food at the restaurant was very good - wine was rather expensive. Breakfast was excellent and there was a big variety of bread, fruits. Very nice staff. For beer lovers : try their Cuvée de Rochehaut !

Great trip for the family to Rouchehaut, first time to Auberge de la Ferme. Very family friendly, tons to do, amazing food. No showers, but this was not a problem.

The service and people were great. The rooms were large with tons to do in the surrounding towns. You definitely need a car when visiting. We kayaked the Semois river and visited Boullion while here. Great place.

I think that a hotel should be judged not when everything is going smoothly, but when there are missunderstandings or problems. A good hotellier should be a problem solver.
We had a problem when we stayed at the Auberge, our passports and money were stolen. I would expect some words of comfort, an empathetic attitude from the staff. Instead, they were very quick in trying to prove that it was not their fault-we were not convinced. Knowing that we are left without money, the owner had insisted that we pay immediately for a bottle of wine we drank the previous night at dinner, although the waiter at that diner assured us that the whole meal is included in the pre-paid pricy room-charge. A very unpleasant incident that masks all the nice points in this hotel. Other drawbacks: No elevator for the use of the guests, ther is a freight lift they let you use. Narrow, poorly-lit stairs. Broken stairs.

The diner was very good. The room much less.

I know the Auberge de la Ferme since the 80's. Then, it was a small, nice and authentic family run business. Loved to go there, good personal service, great food & wines, nice accomodation, well organised. There was only 1 hotel/restaurant then.

Fast forward to 2013. Apart from the original ferme, there are now guest houses, other restaurants, meeting facilities, shops selling their own produce, wild parks, farms, wine yards, touristic trains... you name it... it's like they entirely own what was once the nicest village with the most magnificent view in the Ardennes.

There is nothing wrong with that, and I have nothing against entrepreneurship, at the contrary, but this should not interfere with the essential values of the hospitality business.
The atmosphere from the early years is just ... gone. Countless employees are necessary to run the place, it's not the same family run business any more. The place is breathing business, business, business...

Having said that: the Auberge de la Ferme, Inc. certainly still is good value for money, and quality. For a corporate event, seminar, etc, this is the place to be in the Ardennes.

But the authentic rural spirit is no more and that's a pity...

This is our 5th time back and each time seems better than the first. Each have been a great experience whether in winter or summer months. The staff are very friendly and make you welcomed. This time we had a room with a juccuzzi bath, it was very relaxing after a long drive. Food as always is excellent local produce and the wine list extensive and reasonably priced. We shall return.

We've been going to Auberge de la Ferme on average once a year for the past 4 years. The main reason of course is the food which is second to none. On our last trip I was delighted to find they had renewed their rooms. We were a last minute booking and took the last room in the place. It was small, but so beautiful with a huge bed and great bathroom.

Dining is the event for the evening. Come down for a pre-dinner drink in front of the fire at about 7:00. Have a long leisurely dinner followed by coffee in front of their other fire and then crash into bed at 11:00pm - heaven. Next morning, up in time to make a big hole in the breakfast spread - where do we find the room - before donning walking boots for a long tramp across the hills.

Rochehaut sits on the hillside above a bend in the Semois River. It is a well known beauty spot and has some of the best walking in the Belgian Ardennes. The tourist office has maps and their are masses of trails to help you work up an appetite.
