“A blissful April week in rural Umbria.”
Reviewed 29 April 2018 for a stay in April 2018

Just home from the most relaxing week with friends at this exceptional Umbrian hideaway. Off the beaten track up winding roads and surrounded by thickly wooded hills this really is the place to unwind.

Clare and a Mario were wonderful hosts, full of great advice on places to visit and things to do when they were there on the first weekend, but the real beauty of the place was coming back and relaxing in total peace and dining al fresco under the stars with just the sound of a distant cow bell. There are numerous walks through the hills and lots of fascinating culture and architecture in the surrounding villages and towns. Plenty of fabulous places to sample traditional Umbrian cuisine and easy day trips to Assisi, Norcia, Spoleto, Perugia and Rome.

The house has been sympathetically restored and retains all the charm of its ancient past yet has the luxury of a lovely pool which we used daily. We were fortunate to have perfect weather with temperatures in the mid to high 20s all week, the hills were vibrant with spring growth and birdsong and we dined on wild asparagus harvested from the verges.

This is a very special place and one we hope to return to before long!

“such an amazing, restful, and beautiful location.”
Reviewed 9 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Our stay at Clare and Mario`s stunning house in San Mamiliano couldn`t have been more relaxing and enjoyable, it was an absolute tonic. This was the first time I had been to a rural part of Italy, what a revelation! Such a beautiful place, perched on the side of a hill with views out over the surrounding wooded countryside you just unwind as soon as you arrive.
Our hosts were perfect, offered advise and information, nothing was too much and we felt very comfortable and relaxed. The accommodation was lovely, clean, bright and had everything we required. The swimming pool well, its is amazing and was all ours!
We are coming back again next year though this time in the spring as we would like to see the area in a different season and see the countryside in all its flowering glory.
we would highly recommend staying here.

Faultless. Good sized pool. Clare and Mario are very decent, helpful, hosts. Actually stayed May/June 2014 but website would not let me post so long after the event.

To arrive in San Mamiliano is what one imagines from years of looking at Italian escape books or tv shows. The large stone house overlooking the valleys and hills of the surrounding area with a backdrop of green forests and wild flowers just interspersed amongst the trees is inspiring to say the least. Surprised to see such a huge pool, terraced into the garden with a delightful pergola covered in grape vines. We enjoyed many delicious meals here, sourced from a pretty local village nearby. The charming apartment we stayed in had a huge fireplace, kitchen , two bedrooms, with fabulous views, spacious bathroom, cosy and filled with the character of stone and timber from past centuries. Good location to explore all that the Spoleto region has to offer.

Two weeks or relaxation into one!
Had a fantastic stay at La Loggia in San Mamiliano. The accommodation is clean and well fitted out. The views from the bedrooms and the pool are just stunning. There are times when you can literally hear nothing...so peaceful. At the same time it is ideally located (only 4-5 km to some great restaurants) to visit some of the prettiest and culture rich locations in the area. Wine, history, food, activities and peace (did I mention that already?) are all located nearby. Whether its a lazy day by the fabulous pool cooking pizza in the pizza oven or a day exploring the hill top town of Spoleto or white water rafting nearby La Loggia is the place to be!

Liked best: The views, the pool and the peace
Liked least: Sat Navs choice of roads. Think narrow cornish roads on a mountain..I was fine but my wife in the passenger seat got a bit nervous at times...but we then learned the less exciting roads to use :-)

This was our second visit to this San Mamiliano idyll and we would move in permanently if we could! Part of its appeal for my partner and me is its stunning, apparently remote, location coupled with its easy access to so many wonderful Umbrian treasures and attractions. The property has been restored and modernised with sympathy and in total keeping with its glorious natural surroundings - it is a place to truly get away from it all. In ten days we managed lazy days by the lovely pool, a gorgeous evening horse ride with Clare (the owner) as our guide, white water rafting, and days in Assisi, Spoleto, Nocia ... We ate (too much) fabulous food in surprisingly inexpensive restaurants, had delicious bbqs under the vine fringed pergola at the property and enjoyed the discreet but ever helpful company of English rose, Clare and her lovely Italian husband, Mario.

Hire a car and do explore - there is so much to see - but, If you like to wake to nightingale song, share a terrace with shy green lizards and have your evening strolls lit by fireflies then you may never want to leave. This place will feed your soul. You may have gathered I'm a fan...
