Giro dei Condotti
Reviewed 10 October 2017

Spoleto is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. The Umbrian area is green and you can see the sweeping countryside as you hike and tour the area. It is breathtaking

Spoleto, swathed in ancientness. Spectacularly situated with some of the most interesting things to do. Climbing mountains over high bridges where stunning views across the countryside were a highlight for us. Think Isabella Rosalini, theater and water fountains. Gelato, and tomato pasta and prosecco. What is also incredible is that underneath this ancient city is an amazing massive escalatored walk ways. Amazing! Loved this place, but then again we loved all of Italy.

With the children this is a great walk with wonderful views of the bridge and city. Not too steep the route is a pleasure and ensures a good appetite for lunch!

The Giro dei Condotti is a great walk along the outer perimeter of the city across the Ponte delle Torre. Unfortunately because the Ponte dei Torre is temporarily closed pending engineering review as a result of the August earthquake in eastern Umbria you have to take a round about route. Exit the city thru Piazza Liberta onto Via Metteotti. Turn left at the 2nd major intersection - a continuation of Metteotti - and cross S.S. 3 (auto stata) towards Chiesa S Pietro. Follow the road (Via Strada di Monteluco) to the intersection of the tower at the end of the far side of the Ponte dell Torre. Warning - this is the road to Monteluco and has a small shoulder. Drivers here know only 2 speeds - fast and faster so watch out for speed demons coming off of Monteluco. Once at the Tower ascend to the Giro. Taking a left puts you on the Giro, taking a right puts you on La Via di Francesco - the trail to Monteluco. The Giro proceeds largely level until in declines on the north of the city into a neighborhood just outside the wall at Ponzianina. You can grab the escalators to the Giro dei Rocca upon entry. Unique views.
