We stayed there four nights in May, 11. The room was good sized, so we had plenty of room to scatter our stuff about, which we like to do. Extra chairs, good bathroom, excellent bed and a small balcony looking away from town. Very quite, perfectly clean, efficient and courteous service. The morning colazione was good, not spectacular. We ate one night in their dining room and that was about what you expect from a hotel restaurant, okay, not so great, we ate there because my wife was tired that evening. But the restaurant does present nice views.
There is a bar in the lobby area and a free parking lot in front, but the parking space is quite restricted, I think it only holds about 15 cars.
The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is quite close to the center of town, immediately next to the old Roman amphitheater ruins and the archiological museum (a very nice interesting museum) and within easy walk of the duomo, shopping and plenty of nice restaurants.
If we return to Spoleto, we will want to stay there again.

Spoleto was an incredible discovery, but would never have been the same without finding this hotel and it's wonderful service. Customer service is sadly a rarity these days, but from the moment we stepped into the hotel, we felt at home. A lovely older chap by the name of Luciano let us choose our rooms, helped us with everything from restaurants to sights and from start to finnish was always there with a smile to help. Our view was wonderful, the restaurant has a garden overlooking a 90ad Roman theatre. Clean rooms, air conditioning. what more could you ask for and to think it's located in a small town lost in the Umbrian hills. HIGHLY RECCOMEND!

The hotel is centrally located near the entrance of the old town but at the same time is very quiet and peaceful. Its garden overlooks the Roman Theater and on the other side the wonderful hills surrounding Spoleto.
The restaurant service was excellent and the food mouthwatering!
All in all a great experience worth coming back for especially during the Spoleto Festival 24/6-10/7/2011

Room Tip: Best rooms are overlooking the town

We stayed two nights at this hotel, and were generally pleased with the stay. It's located right on the fringe of the historic center, within easy walking distance of all the major attractions and many good restaurants. It's on a main road leading into the center of town, and not that hard to find (although it's not particularly well marked). Parking is free, but there are just 12-15 spaces in front of the hotel, so it can be extremely tight. But the staff will park your car for you---they prefer that so they can cram as many cars in as possible.

Our contemporary room had nice furnishings, a good sized bathroom and all the usual amenities of a 4-star, including a bigger than usual TV screen. The breakfast buffet is very good. We were disappointed that they had not yet turned on the central air conditioning in early May, so we had to leave our window open. But things were generally quiet, and Spoleto does cool off nicely during the evening. The staff was generally friendly, but seemed to be harried much of the time. Overall, a good place to stay in Spoleto.

Room Tip: Views from south side of hotel are best.

The Hotel dei Duchi is a lovely place. It is spotlessly clean, the staff is professional and courteous, the views from the valley side of the hotel are exceptional, the breakfast was copious and delicious, and the hotel is well situated in the town. I'm not sure it's really a four-star, but it's very close. The only downside is that the floors (which I believe are ceramic) seem to transmit noise from upper floors and I could hear the guest above me walking around pretty well. Other than that, everything was perfect.
The staff also made excellent suggestions for nearby restaurants. My favorite by far was La Lanterna.

After our five days in Rome, we took the train up to Spoleto for the Umbrian part of our vacation. We were glad we chose Spoleto as our home for this leg of the trip--it is a convenient for outings to Assisi, Spello, Trevi, and Montefalco --and the Hotel Dei Duchi really felt like our home. It was a quick bus ride from the stazione to the hotel--the Dei Duchi is a short walk from the stop. The hotel itself is perched on the upper and older part of Spoleto with stunning views of the countryside--we were fortunate that our room had a balcony. It's also practically on top of the Roman amphitheatre, which you can gaze at from the hotel's garden. ( By the way, it is worth taking the short walk over and visiting the museum.) The hotel lobby is modern Italian--wood, stone, and glass-- and completely comforting. Our room was large, nicely appointed, and an added plus was the fit-for-royalty bathroom with its expansive bathtub--all a welcome change from our more urban and cramped Roman hotel room. The hotel is just a few cobblestones away from the Piazza Del Liberta, with its news stands, cafes, pizzerias. And five minutes of walking takes you to the Piazza del Mercato's great shopping, enotecas, food shops, and tratttorias. We enjoyed tramping around the alleys of Spoleto and coming back to the Dei Duchi, feeling totally at home reading our books in the lobby or having a glass of Trebbiano jn our room. Friendly and helpful staff:they located a bicycle rental shop in town for us. And the Dei Duchi's own ristorante more than holds its own against Spoleto's other food temples.

Hotel dei Duchi is located only a few steps from a main square in Spoleto, and less than a 15-minute walk from virtually all of the main sights in the town. It actually overlooks the Roman Theater. We reserved a "romantic package" that included dinner our first night as well as a bottle of spumanti wine in our room. The room was commodious, the staff were service-oriented, there was free access to a public computer in the lobby--and parking was convenient and free! The restaurant was fine--but not as memorable as the hotel.
