“A wonderful getaway”
Reviewed 15 July 2013 via mobile

Villa Milani is situated above the town of Spoleto where the views from the terrace are spectacular. It's a very welcoming hotel, the staff are very friendly, the rooms are beautifully kept, tidy, spacious. We had a meal there on our first night of 3 and it was delicious. Wine was good too, though limited. Service is relaxed, it is a place to go if you are happy to do your own thing and completely switch off. Breakfast was disappointing, very limited beyond cakes and croissants, you had to pay €9 for eggs and as we learned for a ham/cheese toast. We absolutely loved the area and would return. You definitely need a car if staying here really.

Let's get the bad news over with first. The only hiccup was the dinner, it was mediocre and the wine prices somewhat inflated, so we really wouldn't suggest dining there.
However, this truly is a delightful place to stay. We cannot praise the staff highly enough, they were always kind and helpful and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.
The room was delightful, the bed a dream to sleep in and the bathroom was luxurious.
The common rooms were beautiful and the view from the terrace spectacular.
A great breakfast that catered for every palate, it's not easy to find Italians who serve a 'non-sweet' breakfast. You can choose to eat breakfast on the terrace, weather permitting, and that is not to be missed. We will definitely return here.

Room Tip: The tower room is amazing.

The hotel is easy to find and staff were very gracious, we stayed in the tower, worth paying for, for views, it is a MUST , we did have dinner in the hotel and at 50 euros we were seriously ripped off, the food to be honest was dreadful, I never complain but it was it cold served in such a way that the staff really didn't want be be there, we couldn't see what we were eating and felt that we were putting them out.
Breakfast, to be honest is quite basic and took ages to be replenished , the location is lovely but....
Maybe it was a bad day?
They do have a pool...

My partner and I had the pleasure of staying here for 9 nights. It was completely fantastic from beginning to end. Luigi and Anna are the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble.

The villa sits 5 mins drive (1 mile) up the hill from Spoleto and the views are amazing. We had breakfast in the sunshine on the terrace in the mornings, with a cool breeze blowing and looking out over the town below. It really was picture perfect.

The breakfasts were excellent, we had museli and yogurt (try the pappa reale, it's fabulous), fresh juice, tea, salami, cheeses, bread, croissants (cake sometimes). There is no wonder I put on weight here, despite swimming in the gorgeous pool. As the hotel was quiet when we stayed (just after the festival) we had a personalised breakfast. Talk about being spoilt and indulgent.

We really enjoyed our stay and didn't want to leave, but we will be back again as soon as we can.

Having stayed in Tuscany a few times, Umbria was a first for us but it didn't disappoint one little bit, we were enchanted with Umbria, Spoleto and most of all with Villa Milani.

Room Tip: We stayed in Antares which is beautiful, cool and opens out onto the terrace.

We spent 4 nights at Villa Milani in September. Upon arrival, we were unable to find the Villa and called the hotel for directions. The owner, Luigi, immediately drove into town to lead us back to the Villa. The staff were waiting to greet us and we were given a small tour of this fabulous Villa. A lovely lunch was prepared for us and enjoyed on the terrace. Our room was very large and well appointed with gorgeous views of town. The bathroom was also quite large. Breakfast was served in a small dining room whenever we were ready. Although it was too chilly for swimming, the pool looked lovely. The Villa sits high above Spoleto but is only 5 minutes from the town. Spoleto was fun to expore with lovely restaurants and reservations were made for us by the Villa. Villa Milani took the place of honor on the cover of Karen Brown's Guide to Tuscany recently and we have found that these guides are a treasure for travelers. Also, Paul Simon was a guest here a few years ago so I think we could not have done better for a place to stay in Spoleto. We loved every minute of it.

Staying in Villa Milani was a real joy. The reception rooms are small and intimate, with doors leading onto the terrace and gardens, with views of the town and hills, exquisite by day and night. The terrace area was transformed from breakfast to evening drinks. The rooms are extremely comfortable with beautiful furniture and spacious bathrooms. We spent time on the loungers around the pool which is well positioned with beautiful views across the valley.
Luigi, his wife and staff could not have been more knowledgable of the area and made sure our stay was special in every way and we left saying it was one of our most memorable breaks.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor, have their own terrace outside space

A few friends went to stay at Villa Milani for a long weekend and we certainly weren't disappointed.
The villa is set on the hillside above the beautiful town on Spoleto so there are magnificent views over the valley and down onto the town. The town itself is a joy to visit with its extraordinary Duomo full of exquisite paintings. If you're a Filippo Lippi fan then the frescoes of the apse are a must.
The villa itself is a real treat. The food was excellent and eating breakfast leisurely on the terrace until at least 11am every morning was wonderful. The staff were all so friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough to make our stay very special.
Luigi is the consummate host with any request being dealt with efficiently and with enthusiasm and interest. You felt that you were his personal guests and no request was too much trouble.
I would go back there like a shot if the opportunity arises.
