Reviewed 1 July 2014

What a treat! A two night stay is a must in this peaceful hotel, with the not-to-be-missed amazing views from its breakfast room and some rooms. Close to the centre of the old town and within walking distance of many of the sights. A comfortable room with slightly dated bathroom. Staff were always helpful and the whole place has a lovely atmosphere.

Room Tip: Ask, if you want a room with a view.

Eight years ago our family stayed here while we attended a four day cooking school at Tempio del Gusto. It was a wonderful place for two teenage kids and their parents. So this year we came back for a one night stay to eat at Tempio del Gusto again and we just had to stay at Palazzo Dragoni again. As my 4 year old niece said, we had a princess bed. Roberto was able to dig up a room with two beds for my now twenty something children. The kids said we did one thing right as parents. That was to take them here as teenagers. And to return now. And the Palazzo Dragoni is part of the magic that made being right happen. This is a clean, well cared for hotel. Someone said that the furnishings are dated and perhaps they are but it adds to the charm. And the bed mattress is new and comfortable. The breakfast is wonderful. The staff is attentive and gracious. The wifi is just ok. But you can get it in the lobby. The hotel is close to the Duomo and a convenient place to explore Spoletto. Come and enjoy this beautiful place.

Wonderful property at the top of one of Spoleto's hills. Incredible views. Very friendly, helpful staff. We were warmly greeted on arrival. Parking was only about 100 feet away. Rooms are large and very clean. Large bathrooms. Highly recommend

We spent 3 nights in the hilltop town of Spoleto using it as a base for our exploration of eastern portions of Umbria. We stayed in a juinor suite which was ample in space with high ceilings and a nice view of the valley. The Palazzo Dragoni is run by a family and the staff is accomodating and attentive. We exchanged emails with Alfredo several weeks in advance for suggestions of restaurants. As we traveled from Perugia, our Hertz GPS had difficulty in charting the final path to the hotel in the narrow one way streets of Spoleto. We called the hotel and within10 minutes, hotel staff arrived in a car and we followed them in what seemed like a mini-tour of Spoleto to the hotel. Roberto greeted us and highlighted routes to the hotel from outside Spoleto and leaving Spoleto and urged us to turn off our GPS when we reached the edges of the Town.
The room was clean, and the bed fine for our sensitive backs.Bath facilities are old but remember its a 17th Century Palazzo. A more than adequate breakfast was served in a lovely room with a view of the Cathedral. Fresh made eggs and omelets were offered which were very good.
The hotel's location near the main plazas and the Cathedral is very good. But Spoleteo is both hilly and spread out so a good pair of shoes is essential along with strong legs. Nothing is more than a 15-20 minute walk.

We enjoyed 3 nights at the Palazzo Dragoni in September. This hotel is located very close to the Duomo which is the main feature of the town. It is a lovely old Palazzo and has lots of character. Of course with character comes little things like noisy pipes which are part and parcel of this type of old building. The room and bathroom was large and we also had another living room and bathroom - so loads of space! Our view from the room was amazing - out one window we looked down over the beautiful countryside and out the other window we looked up to the amazing Duomo (quite spectacular at night!). We had a rental car and our SatNav found the hotel for us (although we had to go 20 metres down a one way street to get to the correct road!) and parking was very close to the hotel. All of the staff were extremely helpful. Roberto's restaurant suggestions were great and Patrizia was so friendly and helpful at breakfast. The breakfast itself was one of the best we had in Italy - with a nice selection, eggs cooked to order and a special treat cooked for us each day. We spent 2 of the days exploring Spoleto - which is a beautiful hill town - and the 3rd day visiting Spelo, Assizi and Deruta. We think the 2 days were enough for Spoleto but would have liked a bit more time to explore some other Umbrian towns. One last thing - our friends we were travelling with, left their passports and cash in the safe when we checked out. When they realised a few hours later they rang Roberto who checked the safe and made sure all the cash and contents were at reception for us to collect when we made a rushed return in a taxi. Our sincere thanks for your honesty and assistance!! We can certainly recommend Spoleto as a great place to visit and the Palazzo Dragoni as the place to stay!

At first look when we were taken to our room I was a bit let down. No doubt this place has lots of historic significance. The rooms were huge including the bathroom but as many places in Europe, not well lit. We just have to get used to that - and the longer you're in the room, you do! We also have to get used to no screens and killing a few files before you get the rhythm of when you can and can't open your windows. This room needed air and needed light so hence trying to open the huge, once beautiful windows. The curtains were very dusty but granted it ain't easy to clean 20' curtains. I'm sure the rugs had not been cleaned in a while as well. However, we made ourselves at home here as there was lots of room to spread out, surprisingly in the bathroom as well. Shower was decent. Bring your own toiletries! The bed was king sized so that was great. Not the best bed, but fine. Pillows were fine as well. Towels were thin and definitely under par. But at least they were changed every day. Everything worked well too.

Once I got over the initial reaction, we grew to enjoy the place. You can't beat the location. When you are traveling and ESPECIALLY in a place where you're walking very steep steps and hills, you want a place close to it all. This hotel did that for us! Not only that, the manager and actually anyone on staff at the desk was more than helpful. I learned a bit of Italian and no one ever made a face. In fact they complimented me! We spoke well together and as usual, their English was better than my Italian. Someone was always there to help us, counsel us on where to go,etc. We had our own car and when we got lost in the town upon our arrival, we called the hotel AND THEY CAME AND GOT US! That put them at the top right away!

Breakfasts were fine (we were there for 3 nights). Best part about this hotel was the cappuccino every morning . Best we had had in Italy so far! And no one made a face when I asked for a 2nd cup. :-)

So, yes the place is old, it's not 5 stars, it's not immaculate, but we called it home and we would recommend staying there if you want to be IN Spoleto. Lots to do in this wonderful little town. 3 days were enough but squeezing it all into 2 would have been rushed. Go and enjoy!

Room Tip: Our room faced the back and we had a beautiful view. Since it wasn't busy season, and not havin...

Everything at the Palazzo Dragoni is wonderful. The breakfast is the best ever and has plenty of options, you will not leave hungry. My room and bathroom were not only comfortable and cozy, but also felt like I had traveled back through time. My bed was very comfortable and the room was beautiful. The views are breathtaking. But most importantly, our hosts were exceptional, we felt like family. Our group stayed at the Dragoni for 6 amazing nights and I would stay there again in an instant. Actually I have every intention of visiting again, hopefully soon. I wholeheartedly recommend the Palazzo Dragoni!!!
