One thing everybody should be aware of: Stromboli is a remote islands, which means that pretty much everything, inkluding ALL water is brought to the island by ship! So if you are used to luxury holidays where you can get anything you want at any time, have anything for dinner and shower for hours, then Stromboli as a destination is the wrong place for you.
If you still think you are ready, then this could be a place you will never forget. The remoteness of the island is in fact an advantage, if you want to 'escape for a week from normal life'. The Aquilone is owned by Adriano who runs the place with 2 or 3 (?) other guys. On arrival he was waiting for us on the corner and welcomed us with a smile, then guiding us through the beautiful garden he directly showed us the room. Our room was minimal but cosy - one could somehow detect a 'female touch' in the room from flower pictures and pink blankets on the bed. In short: it had all we needed. A double bed, a nice bathroom with a sink, WC, BD and a shower which for us was perfectly fine. As mentioned already, one cannot stand under the shower for hours, the water on the island is just a very limited resource. However, if u consider that, then you should not have any problems. In the room was a fan (we didn't need nor want an airco) and we even had a small terrace with a couch on our own.
While speaking of the terrace i should mention the wonderful common terace the aquilone has. In fact i was supriced that it was rarely used by the other guests. The view is just stunning. In the evening hours one can see the groups on their way to reach the top. It's especially exciting when you are planning the hike on your own, or if you have been up there before.
The Aquilone has a wonderful garden with lots of nice flowers and trees. We had a lemon tree with many many fruits just in front of our room (no 9). The flora and fauna in the garden creates an interesting micro clima which is usually reducing the temperature quite a few degrees.
Adriano is really a very nice guy who is trying everything in his powers to make the stay as comfortable as possible. (Though he also says bluntly when he cannot help or answer your question.) He even brought us the breakfast every morning to our room/terrace as we were always a bit slow in the morning and preferred a quiet breakfast on our own. Normally the breakfast is served for everyone together on a common terrace.
As a matter of fact, there is only one thing I could mention as a 'minus': The matrace was a bit too hard for me, but that is certainly always a matter of personal preference. All together, this is a wonderful place I can definitely recommend, and we will definitely come back.
