This was amazing. The three hour climb up the volcano was well worth it. A definite must on anyone's agenda. Stromboli performed for us and the guide said it was the best he had seen it in the 5 years he had been a guide. Can't recommend it enough.

The volcano hike might end up to be one of the best experiences of your life. We saw 4 flumes spout lava which was incredible. The company we took, Stromboli, however, needs a fix. The booking agent lady and our second guide, Nino, were excellent. Our main guide, Giuseppe, pushed the hikers way too hard and made the group feel uncomfortable. When one person had a problem with the equipment they rented from the company, he seemed to blame the person, told them to hurry up to get an equip change, and pushed them and another slow hiker very hard (on a fairly tough hike). He also was on the phone for almost the entire hike and explained almost nothing to us about the mountain. This is a vacation for everyone, not a professional trek, so he should be more patient and informative.

I cannot recommend a trip to Stromboli vulcano highly enough. It is truly amazing and the experience will be engraved in your memory.
I took the trekking with Magma Track, very nice and experienced guides. They have several groups leaving every day late afternoon and you will be assigned to a group depending on the language you speak. The hike is certainly doable for many people. I do not do any sports but am generally fit - there was no moment in which I felt I could not do it. The view whilst hinting is great and every now and then you'll hear the vulcano grumbling and roaring. That in itself is a great motivation to keep on going!
Once at the top the view will take your breath away. When I was there the vulcano had about 12 vents trough which the magma, gas and 'fire' came. It looked like a whole field of vulcanos (to my unexperienced eye). We stayed about 30 minutes on top of the mountain to see the fireworks. Great photo and film opportunities.
Funnily enough the hardest part came with the descent. There were long stretches in very soft sand and I did not always feel steady. But the guides were not speeding so again, it was doable. With the full moon on one side and the vulcano on the other, it was the highlight of my holidays!

The boat trip itself was great, and even by daylight Stromboli is spectacular, with a rumble like thunder and a plume of black smoke shooting skywards. But at night, from out at sea, the regular firework display is dramatic and awe-inspiring. The trip was one reason why I went to the Aeolian Islands, which are a great sight in their own right, including Vulcano, where you can walk round the rim of a crater and smell the sulphur.
