“Idyllic retreat beneath the mountains”
Reviewed 7 July 2016 for a stay in May 2016

What a great place. We loved the comforts of the apartment, the peaceful rural setting, the closeness of the mountains and the pretty hilltop town of Pettorana sul Gizio, the walks accessible from the front door, the ease with which we could reach into the gorgeous mountains surrounding Sulmona, the daily greetings from Florrie and Max, and last but definitely not least, the kind and deeply knowledgeable hospitality of Stuart. All too short a stay and we hope to return soon.

“What Comes After Excellent?”
Reviewed 5 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

What Comes After Excellent?

As seasoned travelers we have experienced all sorts of accommodation across the globe and occasionally, and only occasionally, we find a rare gem to rave about. Casa La Rocca is one such gem. Hil and Stuart were delightful hosts, readily accommodating our every need. The apartment felt like “home away from home” and the location was ideal for access to the towns, villages and mountains of Abruzzo. For those interested in trekking, hiking or walking, Stuart is a font of knowledge (try his recent Cicerone publication “Walking in Abruzzo”, 2014). We can’t speak too highly of our hosts and what they have to offer. Wonderful in all respects!

“Just perfect”
Reviewed 29 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Ideal position for exploring Abruzzo. Rural but not isolated. So peaceful and spectacular views. The apartment is large, cool, clean and private with such a comfy bed it is hard to leave in the morning. However, it is a joy to return to the friendly greeting from the dogs, have a powerful shower and then cook in the superb kitchen. The fabulous hosts are always discreet but there for advice when needed and are happy to share their huge knowledge of the area (and a beer or glass of wine gazing at the stars). This is a gem of a place, where you will immediately feel relaxed and no doubt shed a tear or two when leaving....

“Fantastic !”
Reviewed 1 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We stayed in Casa la Rocca for 10 days and we had amazing time. We really enjoyed our stay , Hil and Stuart ( and their 2 dogs) are lovely hosts who will be more that happy to help if asked. The aparment is very well equipted with everything that is necessary and great outdoor space to enjoy sun and views. This is perfect place for resting in countryside surrounded by mounitain. Requires a lot of driving to reach interesting hiking routes. Be aware of siesta (no food) between 2pm and 8pm apart from a few pizzerias.

We really had great holidays and it was pleasure to meet Hil and Stuart. Highly recommended!!!

“A truly great place to stay”
Reviewed 18 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Casa la Rocca - is a truly great place to stay. It is easy to reach, only 2 hours drive from Rome, on good roads and the house is situated in a beautiful open valley, with clear views to the surrounding mountains. Perfect for our exploration of the Abruzzo mountains - where we went walking every day. There are so many interesting walks and lovely villages to visit in Abruzzo. Our hosts were warm and very helpful. We had a super time, loved the house and the secluded terrace.

“Fantastic base to explore beautiful Abruzzo!”
Reviewed 10 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

How wonderful it has been for us to slip into life in Abruzzo during our stay at Casa La Rocca. It was lovely to drive up and be greeted so warmly by Max, Florrie, Hilary and Stuart.. We felt instantly at home. During our week-long stay we wanted for nothing - every detail attended to so thoughtfully. We particularly appreciated the wide range of guide books and information which we used daily and that made our experience of this stunning region so much better than it might have been.
Our whole Abruzzo experience has been way beyond expectation and a highlight has definitely been staying in Casa La Rocca. Wonderful place, wonderful hosts.
