The castle and the historical exhibits housed within it are fascinating and cover the nearly 1000 years since the castle was built to the end of the 19th Century. Not much in the way of English interpretations are here, so unless you speak Italian or German, you will only be able to look at the exhibits. All of the audios are in English, however, so don't pass up the opportunity to don the headphones provided at various exhibits and listen to the terrific historical stories they tell. Tthere are old coins, kitchen implements, weaponry, and various other exhibits relating to the castle's construction, everyday life within it, and the nobles who have lived inside its walls. The brochure describes a 20 minute stroll from the carpark to the castle, but we found it to be not a stroll, but rather a 40 minute hike nearly straight uphill. Definitely not for those with a heart condition, but highly recommended for all others. The brochure also says that there is a fee for parking, but at this time of year parking was free. Also be prepared for unbeliveably strong winds on the way up and in the outdoor areas of the castle. The views from the castle are not to be believed--on a clear day you can see northward all the way up the valley to Austria. My wife, who teaches medieval history, said that if we had actually looked at every exhibit we would have needed a full day here. Ask for the senior discount if you are over 65, because it won't be offered otherwise. There are modern toilet facilities, a shop and a cafe within the castle. Can't say enough about it.
