“Hotel Geier”
Reviewed 31 August 2013

I would just like to say what a wonderful hotel the Geier is. The location is second to none you can practically jump out of your window into Lake Garda. Close to all amenities, bars & restaurants. The rooms are modern, clean and immaculately looked after. The food in the hotel restaurant for Alacarte guests is great especially the seafood dishes. Ugo & his mother who own the hotel cannot do enough for their guests. Brava! To all the negative comments regarding group meals, the package is 3 star food for which you pay 3 star prices. As a tour manager who has worked with and at hotels all over the world believe me there is a lot worse out their for your money. Please don't expect 5 star food as part of a group package and you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view - if you don't ask you don't get. Simple really.

My husband and I returned on Sunday following a week`s stay at this family run hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for Ugo the owner and his mum. Breakfast was typically continental but nothing was too much trouble. Rooms extremely clean and tidy. No extra charge for air on, safe or wifi. We were half board and I have read the reviews regarding the food. We found the food to be very good although the choice was limited to two choices per day for the starter and main courses. Gilberto and his staff were very helpful. Fantastic location and we would have no hesitation in staying there again.

we stayed 3 nights in this hotel. Beautiful location and to be fair the rooms were ok and overall cleanliness was great but the catering was shockingly poor. We were there as part of a package with Newmarket holidays. On our second night, first dinner we were very badly let down. The food was edible but very basic and it took more than 3 hours to get to the third course, I don't know if the dessert was ever served as we left in disgust. It imporved slightly on the last night but wasn't what we expected. The excuse was that there was a shoe fare in town. It was obvious that they cared more for passing trade than residents. Shocking.

This was our third visit to Lake Garda. We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel as part of Newmarket's Italy/Austria tour. Having read previous reviews we were pleasantly suprised that our room was very modern, clean and with views of the lake on both sides. The staff were friendly but as with other reviews, the food served at the evening meal was inadequate. Lasagne, as the main course was served in a tiny dessert dish and consisted of three mouthfuls yet a meal served the previous day was far too large, there was no consistency. The absurd notion of holding on to your used cutlery all the way through the meal was pretty unhygienic as you had no choice but to leave them on a dirty tablecloth and the wait between courses was laughable. We were so uncertain whether the meals would be adequate that we made sure we ate out during the day. Torbole was nice but there was not a lot to do unless you like water sports. The lakeside walk to Riva was a delight and there was plenty to do in the town. A revisit to Malcesine and Mount Baldo via the ferry was a must, and lived up to my expectations. The hotel had a beautify location and I enjoyed my time in Italy.

Location of this hotel couldn't be better. Our room was excellent, big, modern, walk in wardrobe - impressive. However relatives with us has a cramped old fashioned room. Hardly room to walk around the bed. Obviously great difference between the rooms. I'm giving the rating as Very Good because of our room and the location but certainly wouldn't give that rating if we had had the room my relatives were in.

We were on holiday with Newmarket and had dining room on side of hotel which was cramped to say the least, once you were in your seat it was hard to get out of it it somebody sitting behind you! The food was okay, edible and I didn't particularly have a problem with it but others did. It could have been better and the service wasn't great although the staff were very nice Breakfast - the eggs were good on the first day and after that unedible - yolks hard and white not cooked, dont know how they managed that perhaps they were microwaved. If you weren't down early they would run out of toast and croissants. The coffee was never hot enough but you certainly won't starve. Dinner - salad every night, starters were okay and main meal was okay, dessert good. Only there for 3 nights, we ate out on the third night and had a big steak! The staff in the Geier were all very friendly.

Stayed for 3 nights and then travelled to Austria with Newmarket. Wouldn't use an escorted company like Newmarket generally but it seemed an easier option as we were going from Italy to Austria. I certainly wouldn't do it if just going to Italy as we were not going on the organised trips. We went to Limone and Riva del Garda on the ferry. Both lovely places, had lunch overlooking lake on Riva which was fab. Weather was lovely, had been raining for days apparently before we arrived.

If you have already booked this hotel don't worry it is worth it for the location and if you are not happy with your room I would complain as there are better rooms.

After a disappointing stay in 2012, it could be questioned why we ventured back this year. After certain assurances given by the tour company Newmarket Holidays, we decide to give them the benefit of any doubt - how wrong can you be. Although there have been significant improvements in the décor, room upgrades and the breakfast menu. Where the Hotel fails miserably is with the evening dinner service. On our first night the starter was inedible with the majority of guests leaving it uneaten. The main course was grilled trout - with no alternative (my wife went without). Some guests on our table walked out after the starter was served. It was unfortunate that the tour manager was not in residence, due to commitments elsewhere. He did say that if he had been there he would have made approaches to the Hotel for an alternative menu. The quality of meals for the remainder of our stay was very poor. From what I gathered at the time Newmarket Holidays only pay the hotel a minimum amount per head which is why the quality is not there.

Room Tip: One with a view over the lake. Avoid rooms on the top floor as they have sloping ceilings.

This hotel is in the small harbour in Torbole beside the old venetian custom house. Torbole is at the north end of Lake Garda. It is family run and has a good rounded staff who want to provide the "best". Clean, freshly painted and decorated, friendly and good food. I would recommend this hotel to people on their own as well as couples and groups of friends.
I was there with a friend on half board and enjoyed all the meals. There is also a great ice cream shop 5 minutes away.

Room Tip: Ask for a superior room with views of Lake Garda.
