If it wasn't for Francesca & Alessandro, this place would get 1 star. Francesca was lovely & helpful & Alessandro made sure we were happy, otherwise nothing else nice to say.

The other staff that was at front desk in the morning, she showed no care & should not work in hospitality. The room was not cleaned properly & had no windows to see out. our room floor was not swept daily. The staff did not meet me at taxi to help with luggage, & in fact on arrival a male staff member made a comment that I had a lot of luggage. no one helped when we were leaving, & we have a child of 11 months.

All I can say to the manager is that they should travel more & stay at other hotels to see how it should be done. The only good thing this place has is Francesca & Alessandro.

I would not stay here again & think that it would not be hard to find a better place.

In less than 24 hours we given notice that the apartment we had rented for 7 nights would not be available due to problems, (later found out these problems are on going and well known in the community). We were offered another apartment, but not comparable and without the advertised wifi ( in all areas) and then just a plain hotel room, after much discussion we were offered 10€ off our price, none of this was acceptable. To get to reception and rooms one must go up & carry luggage up 52 plus steps. Wnen we tried to leave because they did not hold up tbeir end of our booking reservation they said we had to pay for all 7 nights. After much argument and with Booking.com help we were able to leave just paying for our 2 nights. BUT first Francisca said we had to pay 50 € penalty. Then 1 hour later she said we had to pay 150 € penalty. We paid just to be able to leave, and as Francesca is the only English speaking person there we paid the night before. Then we find out from booking.com we are not to pay the 150 €. In my opinion Francesca is very dishonest, and much arguing again we were able to get it back. This is not an experience you want while traveling on vacation. Another couple that was there at the same time also paid penalty just to leave and not stay their entire booked nights. Stay at your own risk! They paid 50 € penalty.

We stayed in the apartment with a sea view and it was lovely - on the second floor overlooking the harbour on one side and mountains on another. It was clean and spacious (we were a party of 5 adults). I had a few problems with the local trains and printing tickets but the receptionist Francesca and Silvana were very helpful. Grazie ragazze! A great place to spend a few days in clean, comfortable surroundings. The only things that could be improved were the kitchen was a little small and there was no internet.

Just returned from a weekend break. The hotel is excellent, well appointed rooms in an old atmospheric setting right in the centre of the old town. We had a beautiful room with a Juliet balcony with views of the Duomo.

Very clean, great service and excellent breakfast on the terrace with views of the sea.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony if possible

We had reserved the "Apartment with Sea View for 4 adults" located around the block from the main hotel site of Residenza Il Duomo. We never saw the inside of any of the main hotel rooms as they were all filled. I can only report on the apartment in which we were to stay. Entrance is at the end of an alley that is damp and smells of urine. There was no air conditioning, only several fans. A very large window on the main floor of the apartment helped with air circulation, except that it was screenless, approximately 2 feet from the ground and opened into the smelly alley. Leaving the window open was like leaving the door open. Downstairs had the "Sea View", but only if you stepped out onto the balcony and looked off to the left. Sleeping for the 4 adults consisted of two queen beds. OK for couples or children, but not so great for my brother and brother-in-law who weren't prepared to share a bed. There was a rollaway bed in a corner, but we were told by hotel staff that there was no mattress or sheets for it. All of this combined with the parking challenge, the multiple flights of stairs required to bring suitcases up to the hotel location and to come and go to the beach made us decide to pay the cancellation fee (the cost of one nights stay) and to find another spot...which we did. We travel in Italy alot, love the older towns, and enjoy walking (stairs too) all over. This apartment was the first time we've ever decided to hand over money and walk away. We ended up staying in a dreamy spot, right on the sand, in Capo Vaticano, so...it was worth it!

What a terrific hotel! It could have been on a Hollywood set. In fact, the day we arrived, they were using the hotel for a fashion photo shoot. So much character and charm!! Our room overlooked the Duomo and had a small balcony. The Hollywood B-movie set was completed by the yellow walls, the gold brocade drapes and bedspread and the silver headboard, side tables and dresser. The hotel is right in the middle of town and an alleyway walk from shops and restaurants. Perfect for strolling, getting a gelato and watching the world go by. The parking can be difficult but we noticed that everyone parked where they wanted and the police looked the other way. The beaches are also very nice and the town is very clean, a surprise considering the trash found in almost all the other towns we visited.

This hotel is located in an old edifice (up a flight of stairs or two) with totally renovated rooms. Management is very friendly and helpful. Tropea is a middle class Italian resort, good prices, interesting architecture and coastline (beach).
