We stumbled upon this hotel by accident when travelling through. Whilst certainly not the cheapest hotel, it definitely is worth the price!
It is run by its owners and proprietors and it shows. Incredible attention to detail in our room, very well equipped, also the air conditioning is very nice in summer time.

All staff is very friendly, the owning family speaks perfect english.
The breakfast buffet is great, and features eggs made to order.

Our car was parked in a safe, private garage, about a mile away, but since the daughter or the son-in-law drove me to and from the garage, no issue whatsoever....

The beach is only a couple of steps from the hotel, great!

Overall, I can highly recommend the Hotel Astigiani, and would love to return anytime!

This was a perfect choice : right in the heart of this adorable village and very faithful to its description and photos.
A true family business which adds a lot to the hotel experience. The father and mother are delightful, warm and enthusiastic about interacting with guests, daughter Elena was very dynamic, always responded to mails before our stay so promptly and nicely. Lovely waitress at ( excellent)breakfast each day and a very pretty quaint environment. Highly recommended . Be careful: wifi is not included and costs extra and beaches in Varazze are not always free either : but there are 2 public beaches ( I only wish Elena had told us this was an option instead of sending us to her friends private beach when we said we were surprised that beaches were not free!! we discovered the free ones on our own luckily before committing to paying 100 euros for 5 days at the recommended private beach) Near the hotel one public beach is very close and you can either use the small free side with your towel or own beach chair or rent lounge beds/ umbrellas on the other side . The people running the beach are so nice and it is run as a a cooperative business. Great drinks and food too! Staying in Varazze was great! Train for 4 euros to visit Genoa making this a great relaxing but also cultural trip. Thank you to,the whole family at Hotel Astigiana!!!

We stayed for 3 nights for a short beach holiday. The location was perfect, just off the busy beachfront road at the back of a small piazza, 50m from the beach and no traffic. Our room was standard for this type of Italian hotel but nicely furnished and new bathroom. As mentioned by everyone the hosts were very friendly and extremely helpful. Breakfast had good variety and the freshly made scrambled egg was excellent. Varazze was great for a beach holiday, 2 hours from Milan, nice beaches with plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants. We definitely plan to come back again, soon!

We've stayed multiple times at hotel astigiana and it just keeps getting better. You really come here for the family feel first ans foremost: the owners and the staff care! Then we stayed in a great renovated room which is really top class. Real great Italian hospitality through and through. (Don't listen to the vas critics, I often read the good and the bad of hotels , and this one is ALL good).

My wife and I are both now retired. My wife visited Varazze as a teenager on a school trip. We decided to re visit..some 50+ years later. Decided on Hotel Astigana due to the look of the restaurant. What a little gem. We have now been for 2 years in May. Next year it will be September. Suggest high season would be too busy for the "seniors". We were made so welcome by "the family" the first time, we had to go back. "Family" is the word. Run by them as a team and
made to feel part of them . The food is superb. Chef is a large guy..good sign. Varazze for us is
little over 90 mins from Gatwick. Eliza will arrange for a taxi to pick you up at most economical price. Twenty minute cab ride , then you are in the little oasis of Varazze. No need to hire a car.
The town is perfectly charming with enough little nooks and crannies to explore to keep you
from getting bored. There is also the promenade to walk, and the marina to visit. Also for the more energetic there is a walk along the shoreline using the route of the old railway line. All traffic free and even goes through the old tunnels. We walked for about an hour , but goes
further. Easy to use rail system would take you to Genoa or elsewhere , should you fancy a day out. We enjoyed the beach opposite. Eliza came with us to do the deal with the beach manager.
Go on spoil yourself...try a break...not too many though..leave room for us.

Room Tip: If took the room roumantique both times. Its their best one . For us though..Its all about the food...

The title chosen is because from the beginning of making this reservation I should have been suspicious. There was no way of booking through a reservation except with them by email, I was told three different prices for the room with full board, then was not given the price for my children until I gave them the age of my youngest child (10) and then told 10 and over was adult price. Also, the the hotel photos do not look anything like the room or dining room we were in, with the exception of he art behind the front desk. There was no parking, I was told it was because it was an Italian holiday so the town was very busy. I accepted this and the owner was kind enough to drive with me to help find parking. However, it just kept getting worse from there.
I would like to say first that we have been living in a neighboring country for 3 years and have traveled extensively in Europe and this was our 3rd trip to Italy and our 4th hotel so far on this trip.
The room was tiny, we are used to small rooms, but there was barely space to walk, the bathroom was small too, even by european standards. This would have been acceptable, but for 140 euros for the night, it was not. The room decor was sad & dated & looked NOTHING like the photos shown on Tripadvisor or the hotel's website. We could tolerate one night, but not two which we were told was obligatory to book, because of the holiday. WiFi was not free, just the first hour and then a charge for every hour after that. We decided to try and overlook these things and have the nice "Michelin Guide" dinner that they rave about.
WOW the biggest disappointment of all! Dinner was not served in the "nicer" dining room shown in the photos, but that was not a big deal, but then we were not even given a menu and told our choice for starter was soup or pasta, 2 of us had soup and the 3rd had pasta. The soup was made from a powder and the pasta tasted as if the sauce came from a can, not even a jar. Then we were told for the main we had fish or beef, when we asked what type of fish, we were told fried calamari was the only choice, so we ordered one and 2 grilled beef steaks. The calamari was frozen store calamari overcooked and rubbery, the steaks (not an exaggeration) were about 1/2cm thick and a bit overcooked and served with approximately 10 greasy french fries or chips, no sauce, no vegetables. The price they were charging for this meal NOT including drinks was 100 euros! We have eaten better food along the auto route. The people around us looked like they were eating a bit differently. However, all the other people were speaking Italian, but we speak another language fluently (besides english) and the lady spoke that language and the man (husband/owner) speaks fluent english. So it was not a matter of communication, We felt we were being taken advantage of as "unknowing" tourist. This became more obvious when I explained our familiarity with Italy, Italian food and Europe in general. And then they backed off a bit in their argument, which was we were just not familiar with Italian food or europe. The people were "friendly" but friendly like anyone trying to sell you something. We did not stay the 2nd night, but had our breakfast the next day, which was included in the room price. Breakfast was better than dinner, but I guess that's not saying much, since dinner was awful. When we were seated for breakfast, it was at the same table with the same stain from our pasta the night before and the carafe of wine I had ordered the night before. I wish I had taken photos to share, but we were so disappointed we didn't even take the camera out of the bag.

Room Tip: My advice is to skip Varazze altogether and go to Savona

This is not an hotel... This is a family! Alone with 2 small children I've been super welcomed. Perfect location (30m from the sea), very quite place, rooms are a little bit old but very clean. In the restaurant, you will taste local gastronomia, just like if you were invited in an italian family. It is simple but so yummy! You need anything? Just ask and they will give you. A very very recommended place!
