We booked the Garden Palace Hotel which these pictures relate too.
We booked with hotels.com who on booking took the complete
monies for the 2 nights of £176 90. We thought it was strange as we had
booked other hotels with them and they had only taken our credit card details as confirmation. When we arrived we were very rudely put into
the Palace Hotel, their sister hotel across the road. My partner is disabled and they put us on the 3rd floor! The hotel was shabby ,staff were very rude and aggresive and would not accept that we had not booked this hotel. Next day 140 cyclists of the GIRO ITALIA team arrived. We could not get our car out of the carpark, we could not get down to the ground floor to eat, the staff couldn't care less. Hotels.co. are misselling a hotel to customers, we have complained and they are taking the hotel managers word that we are LIARS! even though other people have put bad comments on your site and have complained to hotels.com DO NOT STAY AT EITHER HOTEL AND BEWARE OF HOTELS.COM when booking your hotels .Other sites are much more reliable and trustworthy.

Unless you are desperate for a room, or a complete masochist, avoid this hotel. It is dirty. The communal areas, the bar area and the rooms are all in very poor repair and are filthy. I watched a waiter clean a baby's highchair table with a used serviette then put it against the wall for the next use. Disgusting.
The quality of the breakfast buffet was dire, and your morning coffee comes from a machine.
Service at the bar was virtually non existant. The staff are generally surly and unpleasant, with the exception of the receptionist Cristina who tried to be helpful.
Parking is impossible, even if you pay extra for a garage, as you are always either blocking someone in or being blocked in yourself. Guests get quite heated while waiting to be able to get their cars out and it can be very stressful.
This is probably the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and I would not stay there again under any circumstances.

I paid about 120$ for two nights, and for that price it is good value. But the service is terrible and the rooms have paper-thin walls. Fairly clean, at least in the visible places. Worn down, could use a renovation.

Ok if you are looking for a cheap place to sleep.

Avoid the restaurant! Lousy food.

We got this place for less than a hundred bucks Canadian and two adults and two children slept reasonable well. However, there was lots to find fault in: extra charge for using the A/C (I figured out how to use it without paying), extra charge for using the TV, extra charge for WiFi, a silly folding plastic wall in the shower (which kept collapsing into the tub while showering - fun) and the fact that it tended to cater to loud, budget bus tours from eastern Europe. But it was just of the coastal road and easy to get to. If your stay is longer than a very quick overnight, you'll likely regret it.

This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in, and we have stayed in a lot! Correction, not the worst hotel, the worst room in any hotel. Four of us had been touring France from Camargue to Alps, through Provence, then back down into Varazze for 3 nights, and this hotel was just awful. We immediately wanted to check out. Very expensive at 120 Euros per night per room, especially out of season. The total cost for 3 nights, including dinner was 550 euros per couple, totally unacceptable. Our room was small. We originally booked into the Garden Palace but for some reason they put us in the main hotel. We had additional 2 bunk beds in our room, not asked for, which made it too small to move around in. The bathroom was only just usable except that the water wasn't hot enough to shower or wash my hair. The breakfast filled a hole, and the dinner was adequate, but nothing special. The hotel was very noisy, all through the night, with the TV blaring, people coming and going, but the beds were comfortable. When we first entered the room, the heater was hanging off the wall, but this was fixed the next day. Towels were more like tea towels, which I think is quite common in Italy, but as we couldn't shower, it didn't matter! We were told when we checked out that it was the week end of the Genoa Boat Show which is why the hotel was so full. Up until this point in our holiday, we had stayed at some wonderful hotels and even a Chateux in France and didn't pay any more than 70 euros per night and in the case of the Chateaux in Provence, only 65 euros per night with dinner at 23 euros each including a bottle of wine between 2.
We didn't like the town of Varazze very much either, but the Marina was nice. The beach was very well kept but we weren't there for beaches! We were going to take the train to Genoa for one of our days out (leaving the hotel car park would have lost us our parking space!) but my husband had a very bad tummy upset. Thank goodness we didn't go. Very disappointing indeed and we will never return.
