Having travelled around the world on business I often find myself unimpressed, on firsthand acquaintance, with so called "businessmen friendly" hotels. The Hotel di Varese actually both a first class business hotel and a perfect touring base for the Italian Lakes for holiday makers like us.
We came to Italy from one of the top boutique hotels in London which iis constantly getting accolades for its service but the staff at the Varese were genuinely friendly and couldn't have been more helpful and they are genuinely on. Par with the best.
If you are on holiday then I recommend that you stay in the purpose built villa behind the main hotel as it is very quiet and our room on the top floor was the only one on the second floor. Well equipped with two small balconies.
I am not one for crowded tourist destinations and Varese as a base was perfect. Easy access to the lakes and the pedestrian only gown centre was a few minutes walk away. We liked the feeling at dinner in the town that we were surrounded by locals rather than other tourists with the constant feeling, as in Verona, that the restaurants were just churning out the food for the visitors.
