Excellent views (from terrace and at least half the rooms) and very cheerful, polite, friendly staff. Decor a little tired and the stair carpet, in particular, in need of replacement before it becomes a serious trip hazard! We stayed half-board as part of a Page&Moy package. Breakfast buffet was OK but with the exception of two special celebration dinners the evening meals were generally dull, with little choice and too much stodge. On that basis, would recommend on a B&B basis rather than half-board. There are a number of restaurants close by. Talking to other guests it would seem that rooms vary quite a lot in size etc and that some are prone to noise. Ours was OK but sounds of voices in corridors and doors banging could be distracting until the place had settled down for the night. Little of note in the town itself but a good base for exploring. To be honest, expected rather more from Page&Moy package hotel.

Room Tip: People with rooms overlooking the street complained about noise.

Our family of 4 adults and 4 children arrived at Aequa Hotel by taxi and stayed for 3 days. The taxi dropped our 8 large bags outside the hotel and within seconds the hotel porter collected them and took them straight to our room. The reception staff were friendly and helpful in organising trips to Pompeii and Amalfi.
Our rooms were large and very comfortable and the swimming pool was great. We left by Curreri bus for Rome and were delighted to find the bus stop right next to our hotel.
Overall we loved Aequa Hotel and were very sorry to leave.

The Hotel Aequa is in a perfect location right in the center of Vico Equense. It is one block from the piazza in the town center, easily accessible to restaurants and shops, and a quick walk to the train station. And the town of Vico Equense itself is perfectly located for day trips. It is just 15 minutes by train to Pompeii in one direction to visit the Roman ruins, and just 20 minutes to Sorrento in the other direction for shopping, additional beaches and access to boat trips to Positano, Capri, and other destinations on the Amalfi coast, like Ischia and Ravello.

Beyond the great location, we were very happy with our accommodations at the Hotel Aequa. Our room was decorated with pretty Italian tiles and we had a beautiful view of Vesuvio and the coast. At breakfast every morning we had a selection of pastries, toast, yogurt and cereal. The hotel also had a large pool and terrace where we were able to cool off, relax and admire the view after returning from sightseeing and the beach. And the hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful, from the front desk offering to assist with reservations for restaurants, bus trips and excursions, to the wait staff, bringing us freshly brewed cappuccino and croissants at breakfast.

There were several local restaurants close by with authentic Italian cooking at very reasonable prices. On the first night we had amazing Neopolitan pizza at Pizza al Metro da Gigino, just two blocks from the hotel. Not only did the pizza taste great, but it was also fun watching it being made, tossed in the air, and baked in the large stone ovens. On our last night we dined at Terra Mia, right next to the hotel. The restaurant had a modern feel, the dishes were beautifully plated, and the pasta and seafood dishes that we ordered were all very fresh and flavorful. To finish things off, we ended several of our evenings, including our final night, at Gabriele's, a gelateria just past the piazza, where we enjoyed world-famous creamy Italian gelato.

We loved every minute of our stay in Vico Equense at the Hotel Aequa and are already planning our return trip for next year--hoping to repeat our wonderful experience from this year and planning to add some new memories, maybe a cruise down the Amalfi coast, maybe a trip up Mount Vesuvius, or maybe just more time to sit and admire the beautiful view.

We stayed here on a Page & Moy tour which was excellent apart from this hotel. Our room with a view of the street outside - Via Filangeri which is busy and noisy - was so small that we had to take turns to walk past the end of the 2 single beds 3' wide and was shabby and not very clean. The whole hotel looked as if it had never been redecorated since it opened 40 years ago. Our room was next door to one that the management use for putting parties of youths in and our first night we got no sleep after the disco finished at midnight until 3.30 am when eventually the boys stopped trying to gain access to the girls room next door. The rest of the week we had parties of slightly younger and thus quieter or at least earlier to bed school trips. There was a hotel-wide shortage of hangers
The breakfast was horrible with only stale bread - plenty of good bakers in the town for rolls / baguettes etc - but usually we were leaving too early to buy and eat breakfast elsewhere. Uncooked bacon warmed in hot water instead of fried or grilled is unacceptable though I'm told the small sausages were okay but I didn't want to risk it. The coffee was, to be charitable, absolutely vile; thank heavens for the Illy down the hill which did lovely espresso and capuccino and opened early enough to use before we left for the day. There is a perfectly good coffee machine in the bar at the corner of the dining room but was off limits to the staff to use until after 10 am. The fruit juice appeared to be diluted from sugar based concentrate with little or no taste. Most people bought bottles and cartons in the town.
Dinner was just about adequate but with no choice of main course you had to ask for something different if you were allergic to the fixed option. Only one vegetable with the main course for the first 2 evenings - tinned peas or runner beans - and no potatoes. The bread was better though than at breakfast as it was genuine bakery bread not prepackaged sliced bread for toasters. The pasta course would have been okay if they hadn't stinted on the tomatoes in the sauce to go with the very few pieces of vegetable or fish or meat. Salad sometimes appeared, sometimes not, but always if you had an alternative meal - why?
Even by Italian standards the bathroom towels were thin; I have thicker tea towels at home. I believe that the 3 star rating it boasts is the Italian system which goes up to 6 1/2 stars so its UK equivalent would be 2 star. It is 1 star at best. The pool was supposed to be opening in May but had not while we were there in the first week though it was 30 degrees plus.

We stayed at the Aequa for a week as part of a Page and Moy half board package. Given this operator’s niche market image, we anticipated something exceptional. So, what did we find?

The plus points? First and foremost, the service. The staff, without exception, was charming, polite, helpful and responsive (all spoke good English, but seemed to appreciate and indeed encourage our feeble efforts at Italian!) On our last night, they organised a celebration that went way beyond the call of duty. Secondly, the views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, both from our room and the hotel terrace, were quite stunning.

The food? Our dinner was a multi course affair and, although there was an emphasis on seafood, the menu was always varied enough to be interesting, if not always of the highest quality. There was a decent selection of reasonably priced wine. Breakfast, on the other hand, was best described as adequate but lacking in variety.

To us the Aequa’s real downside became apparent after passing the ornately-furnished reception. Stairs and corridors with threadbare carpets and grubby woodwork led us to a shabby, poorly equipped room, with stained surfaces and areas of damaged floor tiles. For entertainment and information, a small portable TV and tuner were lashed to a bracket about 3m above floor level – best viewed lying on one’s back through a pair of binoculars! In the shower room, we found delaminated woodwork to the door, mouldy grouting, a leaking base and an insecure soap dish to the shower compartment, and an improperly mounted extractor unit with an irritating resonance.

Why didn’t we complain? Well, in the context of an otherwise excellent holiday, perhaps the room wasn’t that important, or was it something to do with all that Italian charm? - oh and then there's that view.

Perhaps that is the Aequa’s real problem....................!

Room Tip: The higher the room the better the view.

With my husband and two young children, we spent most of our week's stay at Torre Barbara hotel. However, for 2 night's we couldn't be accommodated there so our agent from Naples Villas arranged for us to spend the 2 nights at Aequa Hotel. This worked out really well, as the hotel has a lovely pool, is centrally located in Vico Equense and therefore we could take the train into Sorrento etc. Also we could walk to the beach. Our agent, Alfonso Massa, arranged a great itinerary for us and helped us to save money. Theerefore we had more spending money whilst there! The hotel was also child friendly and the staff were most helpful. This hotel is ideal for families.
