“Beautiful house and location with friendly owner.”

We stayed here with a family of five for a week in late October. The house is lovely and has magnificent views of the bay of Napoli. We were often content to simply sit on the balcony and admire the view all morning or evening, but it is also walking distance from the Circumvesuviana station, so it is a good base for exploring the region. My children enjoyed the house and had a great time exploring the gardens and neighborhood, and my father in-law loved it so much he started looking into buying a house for sale nearby. The hostess was very friendly and provided us with plenty of information about navigating the area. Restaurants, the beach, grocery stores, historic sites, etc are all within walking distance. This is one of our favorite places we have stayed, and we highly recommend it.

“Great View and Convenient Location”

The terrace has one of the best views we have ever had from a holiday letting - a great backdrop for breakfast and sundowners. The villa was well-equipped, the WiFi worked fine and the table-tennis table was a lot of fun. Giuseppe always replied quickly to any questions we had beforehand and Marica kindly got us some supplies in as we arrived late Sunday evening. The villa is a short walk from the centre of Vico Equense (highly recommend an ice cream from Gelateria Gabriele near the main square/roundabout) and Hotel Mary next door has friendly staff and tasty pizzas. The villa is ideally located for visiting tourist attractions around the area. You can go directly from the marina to Capri for the day and Pompeii is easily accessible via the Circumvesuviana train which goes regularly from Vico Equense train station.

“Amazing Views”

The view from the villa is exactly as you see in the photos - it's amazing. Having two bathrooms was fantastic for a family, and the washing machine came in very handy. There were plenty of towels and extra blankets should we have needed them. Wifi worked well. It's a good idea to be aware that shops are shut on a Sunday pm/evening, so it was impossible to buy food supplies when we arrived on a Sunday pm. Hotel Mary next door was fantastic and we enjoyed a lovely evening meal there on the Sunday evening, and were able to obtain food supplies the following morning. We can recommend the taxi company on the business card by the door to get to Naples Airport - Alexander is very reliable and competitively priced.

Liked best: The view and having an entire villa to ourselves as opposed to a hotel room.
Liked least: Not being able to buy food or drink when we arrived on a Sunday pm.

“A perfect family villa in the Bay of Naples”
Reviewed 17 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

I can’t recommend Villa Iole enough: quite simply it’s perfect.

The villa is located on the edge of a wooded valley that makes up the south-western side of the Vico Equense peninsular. The upstairs consists of two large double bedrooms, each with a small walled balcony, separated by a bathroom and the stairs. The ground floor consists of a small kitchen/dining area, a second bathroom, and the spacious tiled living room which includes a double sofabed. The villa is evidently a family home rather than just a rental house and has a warm ambience. Sliding doors lead directly from the living room onto the terrace and round to the garden along the entrance side of the villa. Most of the time is spent on the wonderful terrace which has two sun loungers, a swing-sofa, table and chairs, and from which there are spectacular views across the valley and the Bay of Naples with the islands of Ischia and Procida in the distance. Welcome shade is provided by the vines and the ancient olive and lemon trees, the bougainvillea-covered rock wall and the villa itself – with a cooling sea breeze which means the villa never gets too hot.

The town of Vico Equense is a short stroll along the coastal road, past a small shady park with beautiful views of a cliff-top church with Vesuvius beyond. This leads round to the town centre which is marked by a dolphin fountain in the middle of the crossroads with cafes on each of the quadrants. Straight over leads to the fishmongers and food stores as well as the excellent Pizza a Metro which has a takeaway section (however, the prize for the very best takeaway pizza – La Primavera con Crudo - has to go to the Hotel Mary, directly above the Villa Iole. Turning left at the fountain leads to another spectacular view of Vesuvius, and round to the entrance of the Circumvesuviana railway station which we used for all our travel needs. It’s incredibly cheap compared to the UK (£3 to Naples and £1 to Pompeii or Sorrento) and runs every half hour from about 07:00 to 21:30.

Accessing the beaches took a while to work out. Turn sharp left out of the villa, descend the steps and sloping road, before going up a short flight of steps between villas turning left to a locked metal door (key provided), through which public steps wind all the way down to the sea. The first small beach consists of black volcanic sand and rocks and has a wooden hut with tables and chairs which is deserted after sunset – very relaxing. We had difficulty finding the main public beach – it’s reached by walking beyond the first beach, through the harbour and along past the Hotel El Axidie towards the cliffs that mark the headland. The beach is of yellow sand and is free if you stay to the left of the rented sun-lounger enclosure.

“Gorgeous view a little tough to get to”

Giuseppe (the owner) was constantly in touch and solved every issue we had. The Villa is pretty much as the pictures indicate except they fail to mention it is down a very steep driveway that is tough to navigate and there are a flight of steps that would be difficult for a person with physical disabilities. I would definitely stay again if I was going to be on the Amalfi Coast. It's close to everything and easy to get to and from.
