We had an organised lunch of antipasto meats and a selection of wines for tasting in their cellar. Very hospitable.

Thank John G

When Volterra rolls up the sidewalks and goes to bed, La Vena di Vino is still going strong. Owners Lucio and Bruno play perfect host to a local cast of characters and tourist, giving an authentic and fun experience. Excellent wines from Tuscany are poured by the glass for about 4 euro, or a 9 euro tasting of 4-5 wines. There is a great selection of antipasti, and some hot dishes as well.

Go here and join the fun, there is always something happening at La Vena di Vino!

While staying at Tasty Tuscany we had the pleasure of touring Volterra, Italy. Our host, Paolo, gave us a historic tour of the village and then took us to lunch at La Vena di Vino. We had absolutely no idea what a treat we were in for at this quaint little place. It is a very small restaurant with an eclectic (yet clean lines) decor. We started off by meeting Bruno, the owner. He started us off with cheese, prosciutto, salami, etc. We decided to do some wine tasting while lunch was being prepared. I believe it was only 9 Euros for four or five tastings. We had so much fun trying them, deciding what we liked then swapping them out with each other for our favorites. Our table held 7 of us and Bruno made us feel at home. A local poet stopped in for lunch and Bruno read us his poem (in Italian) about Volterra. We had no idea what he was saying but the language is so beautiful it didn't matter. The poet himself was too shy to read it.
Another character walked in while we were dining...we called him the Musician. He mentioned that he played and sang there on occasion. We wondered where until Bruno gave us a tour of the basement. What a cool place! The musician especially piped up and joined in on our laughter when one of the gals in our group decided to leave a souvenir behind. One of the eclectic "things" Bruno had hanging on the wall was a few bra's. Our fearless friend decided her Victoria’s Secret black lacy bra needed to stay in Italy. She tastefully and secretly, removed it in the ladies room...walked out and handed it to Bruno, whose face turned red! The musician piped up..."Victoria's Secret" and the rest is history! Thank you Bruno. Paolo and local patrons for the laughter and fun we had that day. Oh...and let me not forget to mention the food. It was amazing! If you have never tried
Ribollita...it is divine! It is a thick stew, so thick your spoon will stand straight up in it. I really had no idea what it was when it was served but when in Italy...try everything! I tried to replicate it when I got back to the U.S. and failed miserably. (Although my friends liked it, it wasn't like Bruno's).
I hope to visit Tuscany again someday and La Vena di Vino
is on my list to stop in and have a warm cup of wonderful food, wine and laughter. Bon Appetito!
