The apartments are as shown on the site but that's about it. We booked early on and paid 1200 euro while it was put on the web for 900 2 weeks later. Although they are quoted to have ovens ours did not - were told the owner was fetching one and it would be there sometime that week. They had had our booking for more than two months!! Nothing he could do about it we were told. The umberellas were all broken and suitable for midgets so no way we could eat outside on our terrace. I assume they also came from Ikea and were totally unsuitable for the weather conditions so had all broken. I know this to be true as the broken metal ends were there for all to see on our terrace. I was advised to rent a ground floor apartment instead of the first floor apartment which was our first choice. Big mistake - at least upstairs you were not constantly confronted with the neglected grounds and had a balcony with shade where you could eat. Our apartment came with 'large garden'.....please read.... dried and cracked dirt with dying weeds. We were provided with another parasol that was also 1 meter high - maybe they were in the sale!! No attempt whatsoever is made to maintain the property, everything that was planted has died and anything that breaks is left for children to play with i.e. bottles, the metal ends of parasols, building debris etc. The pool has hard wooden sunbeds which are crying out for cushions and there is one parasol which I guess is owned by some poor soul who bought a property as it was always taken by the same group. All in all if you enjoy living in a dustbowl and frying in the sun on a hard wooden bed this is the place for you. If you are looking for the luxury quoted on the site - avoid this place at all costs. We were given a sob story about the water shortage in Volterra but 2 minutes up the road all the gardens were watered regularly, it is merely a means to cut costs. I cannot forsee that this place will improve with time, the owner has no regard for maintenance so not only will the dust bowl still be there next year but the Ikea furnishings will also be older, shabbier and probably not cleaned. Broken glasses are not replaced - merely returned to the cupboard. There is no dishwasher but also nothing to dry your pots with, no a/c but also no fan, there is no security whatsoever and no safe. Anyone thinking to visit should leave any valuables at home. The owner is interested in one thing and one thing only and that's your money. You will be asked to pay cash on arrival and will receive no receipt. There is a law in Italy whereby you must provide a receipt . I was followed from the bakers with a lady giving me a receipt - she told me otherwise she and I were liable to huge fines. Having paid the 1200 euro in full we left after 3 nights and were told the owner would contact us......of course he never did, he had our money and that was all he was interested in. This property is advertised as a luxury resort style environment. I cannot think of anything further from the truth.
