As a teenager on holiday with parents, this holiday was a trip of a lifetime and this hotel was ideal for me. It's nothing overly fancy but it's a great hotel because it covers everything you need for accommodation without distracting you from the beautiful culture and interesting, bustling town. Inside the room it was incredibly clean and tidy as the rooms get cleaned every day. The beds were comfortable and there was a good amount of room to store things. The bathroom was perfectly fine, and even came with complimentary shower gel and soap and mini samples of other essential items such as sun screen and some sort of scrub. The air conditioning system was invaluable as we weren't used to such high temperatures!
We didn't pay extra for the rooms with the view of the town as we were in the town so much, we didn't really feel the need for it. Also there is a lovely, large balcony at the front of the hotel with views of the town and the marina and the lake to the far right which was excellent for taking pictures and relaxing on the sun loungers or at the tables.
The breakfast in the morning was one of the highlights of my stay; cakes, croissants, fresh juice, meats, breads, fruits, cereals, cheeses, jams and nutella etc, and one of the very friendly staff came over and asked if we wanted any hot drinks like tea or coffee - which was such a nice touch. All of the staff were very lovely and attentive and would try to help with any questions or problems we had.
The location was excellent, we didn't really hear any noise from other guests, but as we were in the centre of a bustling town, if we left our windows open there was a fair amount of noise from the streets.
The hotel itself doesn't do food but there are many excellent restaurants very close and around the town. If you want superb ice cream for 1€ a ball - 'Tourists' is the best place to go.
There is a train station in Desenzano, which is quite a walk from the centre of town, but there are regular trains to Verona, Venice, Milan etc, which is great if you want a fairly inexpensive day trip.
All in all, the hotel and the town were an excellent place to stay with many things to do! I would definitely return there another year

I just want to say how much my husband & myself enjoyed our stay in Sept 2013 at the Piroscafo. The staff were very helpful & polite at all times. The buffet breakfast was good, plenty of choice. The rooms are lovely & cleaned & towels are replaced everyday. It is a great location, for getting out & about on the local transport. The train station is 20mins, buses 4mins, & the ferry 3mins. We used all of them during our 10day holiday, visiting Venice, Verona, Brecia,Milan all by train, very good service & cheap.

This hotel was very comfortable, pleasant staff and excellent varied breakfast. The best thing about the hotel is its location as it is right in the heart of the main centre of Desenzano and very close to Lake Yards. We had a room at the back which was fine but there was some noise from the walkway below and neighbours but it was in the centre of all the bars and restaurants so not unexpected.

Room Tip: As others have said pay extra for a room at the front. We cannot all afford that!

We stayed at the Piroscafo for a week 7-14 September. It is a B and B hotel, but there are many eating places within a few yards of the hotel, we especially enjoyed the Gattolardo lovely food and very friendly staff. The hotel is in the most perfect setting overlooking the old harbour. The lake is just a few yards away. The hotel was spotlessly clean the breakfast was a buffet type affair with plenty to choose from. It was fully replenished when needed. The staff were ever so friendly and really helpfull. All in all a lovely hotel, so much so we plan to return next year!!!

We loved this hotel. It was at a prime location, in the middle of the harbour, which we could view every day while having our breakfast.
We were right around the corner from the ferries and bus stop and just a 15 minute walk from the train station.
The room was very spacious with a little balcony. Very clean and fresh towels every day.
Mattresses a little bit hard.
We asked for a kettle and got one delivered to our room straight away.
We had a little trouble with the air conditioning as it was leaking but it was fixed within 2 days.
The staff is very helpful and friendly.
We would definitely use this hotel again upon return to Desenzano.

Room Tip: If possible, ask for a room with balcony, they seem to be more spacious. There is only a very small...

What a lovely hotel in a prime position. This is a 3 star hotel with a 5 star location, well worth paying for a harbour view, book direct with hotel who are very helpful. Breakfast was perfectly adequate for a 3 star hotel, lovely fresh pastries, bread, ham, cheese and eggs. Local buses are very easy to catch nearby and are always on time, tickets are cheaper from the tobacconists. Boats on the lake are a good way to see other places but are quite expensive. A good tip if you are going to the castle and cable car in Malcesine is buy your ticket for both at the castle and then when you go to the cable car you can bypass the queues which can be long. Food in Desanzano is very good and you are certainly spoilt for choice. Another good tip is if you fancy a swim in the lake take some footwear to wear as pebbles can be a little painful on the feet.

What a lovely little hotel! It has the most beautiful location, right on the little inner harbour, so all the town's amenities are a few steps away, yet good double glazing means there is no noise. The hotel is simply yet nicely furnished, and immaculately clean. The bedrooms are certainly small but perfectly adequate, with nice touches such as slippers, kettle, toiletries. Good quality towels changed daily.
The staff are very friendly and know your room number almost immediately. Breakfast a good selection of cereals, fruit, meats, cheese, pastries. Just what you would expect in Italy.
Would definitely recommend if you are looking for bed and breakfast only in a central location, yet a 5 minute walk from the beach and 2 minutes from the ferry terminal

Room Tip: No need for balcony room. Ones at back are nice and quiet.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The ownership and the management of the Hotel Piroscafo by the Segattini family originates at the early part of the last century. At that time transport on the lake was by sailboats which could enter into the harbour. Travellers found accommodation and food in the hostelry known as Locanda Stella. The final renovation of the building was carried out at the start of the 1980's and the business took on the present characteristics, that of an hotel in a central location with a view of the quaint old harbour. It is of particular delight to those visitors who wish to stay in the traditional centre of Desenzano, taking advantage of the comforts that only the centre can offer: proximity to shops, restaurants and bars, the port and the other amenities of a typical small lakeside town. From the terrace on the first floor one has a privileged view of the main square of the town and guests may relax or sun bathe there, taking advantage of the bar service or the shows and concerts organised by the town council in the evenings during summer. The Hotel is equipped with a lift that serves nearly all rooms: only a few rooms need to be accessed by the stairs. The rooms are soberly furnished with modern and linear furnishings, equipped with colour SAT TV, direct telephone line, safe, air conditioning and internet Wi-Fi connection. All rooms are equipped with private bathroom, with shower or bath tube and hairdryer. Some have a small exclusive balcony with view on the harbour or direct access to the communal terrace situated on the first floor, and they could be booked on request. ... more   less
