“Excellent service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 May 2013

A great start of a perfect weekend! We had an early start, and stopped at Paulsens for breakfast. We had an delicious homemade breakfast accompanied with authentic ghost-stories. We will absolutely be back and then we will stay for the night!

This was a very charming and intimate hotel. Great service tailored for each customer.
You feel like you have travelled back in time with the antique interior so well kept, the old music in the background and the whole atmosphere here.
The food was very good and the service was excellent. I loved the cafe/restaurant area.
This time I travelled alone and this was the perfect place to read a book, eat good and sleep well.
I will definitely come back here with my husband.

A little of the road when travelling from Oslo to Stavanger or Bergen, this is a well hidden place. But we are very glad we found this place when searching for hotels.

Staying at this place is like a time travel 100 years back in time, with old fashioned rooms and hospitality. Our room had a private bathroom, but be adviced that not all rooms do. However, this adds to the feeling of the place. Beautiful and clean rooms. Downstairs is a cafe/restaurant in the same fashion with great local food and drinks. The outdoor area is also nice and romantic and situated close to a slow running river.

Service is what you would expect a hundered years back in time, excelent and personal.

Well worth a short detour.

I was planning to propose to my boyfriend, and was therefore looking for a nice place to stay for a romantic weekend. Paulsens Hotell was really a great choice, and this hotel will always have a special meaning to us. The room was beautiful and charming (and perfect for a proposal...), we had a private bathroom, the food was delicious, the staff were friendly and had good stories to tell, and the breakfast was just amazing. All the rooms are different, so one should maybe look at the pictures before booking.

Room Tip: Take a look at the different rooms before booking. Possible to ask for a private bathroom.

I was finishing up a business trip, and had a personal stay in Farsund. This looked like a cozy place. But the reality was a very old house, turned into motel. The rooms were tiny, tiny, and the bathroom was a shared bathroom down the hall. They have a cafe open until midnight, which serves a gathering place for all the beatnik throwbacks, who play guitar, sing drunkenly and loudly, and don't stop until closing time. Since breakfast wasn't served until 10:00am, they left me a plate of soggy breakfast in the refrigerator overnight. This was not the kind of hotel I was looking for.

If you like antique creaky furniture, and late mornings in bed, and eclectic decorations and old-fashioned service, then you may enjoy this place. For me, I should have looked elsewhere.

Small and cozy, re-opened after 40 years. Furniture and over-all atmosphere suggest late 1800 - rarely 1900. Friendly hosts, excellent kitchen. Good beds. Worth a visit. And a revisit.
Note that the breakfast is served 09:00 on weekdays and 10:00 on weekends. But they will fix you a light metal earlier if you are in a hurry.

Room Tip: Rooms 1,2 and 3 are above the lounge. If there is a social function in the lounge it may keep you aw...
