There is a car race tournament in here once every year. On the way to fox hill we can experience a better hike and breath taking views...

The image of a fox embedded into the hill made out of white stones was created by the military personal of the British Royal Navy Ship HMS FOX. Ever since it was named fox hill. It is surrounded by many other hillocks named Gibraltar, One tree hill , Nidankande, 4,200 etc. Fox hill is in a military training ground & once a year when the Foxhill super cross takes place in April , non military personal are permitted to visit the area.
Every SL Army cadet who has passed out as a commissioned officer has shed his/her blood sweat & tears on Foxhill. Many officers will have happy memories of this and many anecdotes.
I have had happy memories & so has my father & both my grandfathers who were in the Royal Army. The photographs I took here more than 30 years ago were on celluloid film & now destroyed but the memories of the rabbit chases , compass marches, the cutting of trenches as a cadet still linger within me. Not much has changed when I visited it as the ground has to be kept in tact for the future generations of cadets to use.
If one needs to visit Foxhill on any other day, it is advisable to obtain permission from the Commandant of the Military academy well in advance indicating the requirement.

Fox Hill can be viewed from Diyatalawa (on the Haputale Diyatalawa Rd) - the small Garrison Town, with many Army/ Air force and Police Bases. Fox Hill (Nariya Kanda in Sinhalese), is the venue for the annual Fox Hill Motor Cross organized by the Sri Lanka Military Academy launched in 1993. It was named after the engraving of a fox carved in to the hill by British soldiers, using the quartes that were lying scattered all over the hill.
