Gail and John run a nice friendly B&B. The room we had - Number 1, has a double bed and a TV and a decent size bathroom with a powerful shower and lots of hot water. John has set up wireless broadband, so if you need to check your E-Mail you can - mobile phones have no signal - good news.
The room is nice enough but is built into the roof with velux windows - normally no problem but in the Lake District and the normal inclement weather the velux windows make for a good drum beat in the night; additionally the pillows provided are a little soft so sleep quality was not so good.
On the positive side, if you need information on routes to walk Gail is exceptionally knowledgeable. Breakfast is very good and sets you up for the couple of decent walks ahead. The position of the property is perfect for setting off on the two routes worth doing from this position. Gail does offer a packed lunch option but the walks are about 5 hours max so probably not needed and the pub (see below) serves food from 11am to 11pm daily.
Next door is the Newfound inn which provides good wholesome no nonsense pub food and has a nice beer garden (when the sun shines).
In summary the B&B and the pub are friendly, relatively cheap and offer good value for money .
