“Very Accommodating and Fantastic Breakfast”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

We stayed at the Forresters when attending a nearby wedding at Tillington Barn - very handy location. We turned up earlier than the advertised check in, and our room was ready and was all set up with the iron and ironing board which we requested.

Rooms are perfectly fine - clean and comfortable. Best thing however was the full english breakfast - someone there takes a great deal of pride with their work. Ingredients were locally sourced and of a very high standard. Landlord friendly and knowledgable of the local area. Would definitely recommend and hope to return some time soon.

Lovely pub, nice accommodation with really good coffee 'sans-charge' and a comfy bed. But the icing on the cake was waking up to the best full English breakfast I've had since Gary Wilmot's wedding. Cashback!

Having read some of the reviews we cannot believe we are talking about the same establishment. We went for sunday "lunch" ( a euphemism if ever there was). A stapled piece of paper listing the menu was offered with a really poor choice. The food was stodgy and nearly inedible.
From previous visits to this pub (before the present owner) we have very fond memories. The garden was lovely. The front was covered with numerous baskets of flowers. Now there are a couple of pathetic baskets and at the rear one basket with totally dead flowers. The whole area is uncared for and depressing..
Having paid the bill we couldn't get out fast enough and will not return.
The woman owner is obviously insecure and afraid of any helpful criticism.

James and his team made for a really enjoyable short break. We parked up and walked the beautiful surroundings over three days, returning each evening for a wonderful evening meal. The accommodation was faultless with a cozy bed and brilliant power shower. Then each morning a hearty freshly cooked breakfast was taken in the garden. Also dog friendly so Oliver our cavalier was able to have a great time too! The Unicorn in Heyshott is a lovely little pub to schedule into a walk!

ok, we didnt stay the night.. but after an amazing lunch in the beautiful garden we wished we could have. the bar/food service was superb happily working with our party of 8's multiple requests including dining al fresco in the unexpected sun. everyone was blown away by the quality of the food and it was the best meal we had during the south downs cycle.

We stayed at the Foresters while walking the South Downs Way and couldn't fault it. We arrived late afternoon very weary and had a pint in the beer garden before finding our accommodation. The room we were shown to was lovely, clean and thoughtfully decorated with a great shower. We went back to the pub once scrubbed up and had a lovely meal. I recommend the smoked haddock fish and chips, really tasty. Had a wonderful nights sleep, the accommodation was really quiet and the bed very comfy. Lovely breakfast in the morning set us up for another day of walking, many thanks.

This venue was picked by friends, The wife and I had no idea what to expect, we had a look on their site and only found the Christmas menu on offer between 4th Dec to 21st of Dec, when we got their tonight 21st Dec this was not available, so we chose from what looked like a photo copy of a table dote menu with the 2 dishes of the day stapled to it like a fake post it note.

When we arrived I was surprised that the place only seems to have two other tables occupied (good job we booked!) my friends said "perhaps there will be more later"...There was not... this is this Saturday night before Christmas ! in the bar there seemed to be a Iplayer hanging from several wires behind the bar... if it was playing music then I don't remember it adding to the ambiance of the fire that was fading in it's embers.

I ordered Game pie from the menu and my wife ordered the pork Belly. The game pie was delicious and was nicely accompanied by the rich full bodied ale from a local brewery, However the pork belly meal was 90% pork blubber 5 % Crackling and less than 5% pork meat resulting in 100% disappointment the quality of the meal was in some way acknowledge by the manager/supervisor on duty who gave approx. 33% discount on that meal. this would have been easier to swallow if the wine list was not priced according to London waiting. if you are going to charge the same price for a decent bottle of wine at Waitrose, as a glass of wine. DON'T make the wine a photo copied typed out list ..or is this the new shabby chic in that case I will print my wine list on a toilet role. around the bar was a black board advertising last weeks events (same as their website) have the owners gone on a Holiday?...

It's time the consumer stood up and be counted and say that if we go out for a meal we expect it to be better than we can produce at home. as we all can !
what we are paying for is the Ambiance, Service, Quality of product.

If a customer complains about a meal Ie: Pork belly, it is not 33% of her evening ruined it's 100% ruined when you still charge her £9.95 for a Potato and Cabbage,...A child mathematician can work out that we are paying to much for our vegetables.......
