My local suggested this attraction and I was glad we did it. It was nice to be away from the city and observe chiang mai countryside. It was a back to basics pleasure. A return trip to the houseboats was THB600 excluding meals and drinks. There are several houseboats. The dam abounds with fish and sea life. The accommodation was very basic, a running tap, toilet and not necessarily comfortable bed but it was clean. Service was polite and helpful.

You will have to take a long tail boat to go to the beautiful area, there are several restaurants and floating house for rent.

Day trip is good but stay over night is better, so you will be able to do a lot of activities such as fishing, swimming, sightseeing and going to water fall.

For several years we visit the Ngat Dam in Mae Teng. We love the peacefull lake for a day to relax, swim a have a nice meal. The place is not (yet) crowded with tourist, though in the last few years we have seen it become more attractive to more people. But it is still worth taking a boat and let yourself being dropped off at one of the boathouses. You pay 600 bath for a round trip, you can decide yourself at what time you want to be picked up again. Some of the houses have rooms for rent, we never slept there, its still on our to do list. Last time we visited was august 2015.
