“Superb Rural Property in a Beautiful Location”
Reviewed 7 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

The Barn at Boudet is a beautiful property situated in a tranquil rural location with far reaching views across open fields and woodland. The property has been finished to a very high standard and is superbly equipped throughout. It has an abundance of period character and charm with lots of exposed beams, wooden and stone flooring, with the added advantage of all modern amenities. The property is very spacious inside with an open plan layout to the ground floor and a very attractive galleried landing to the large central hallway.

There is a South-facing lawned garden area to the front of the property which is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the superb views. We immediately felt at home here and would hope to return again in the future to this beautiful place. The owners were also lovely to deal with, and very helpful. This is the best holiday rental property that we have stayed in within France, and is highly recommended.

“Fabulous property - highly recommend it.”
Reviewed 19 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

A beautiful place to stay with a magnificent 17th century fireplace, well-stocked kitchen and five-star quality throughout.

Very quiet and safe location for kids, but only minutes from the boulangerie at Barenton. and the fantastic Saint Georges restaurant, only 10 minutes away in St Georges de Rouelley, where we had a wonderful traditional French meal courtesy of the very friendly husband and wife hosts.

Took a cycle trip to the medieval city of Domfront along the safe and tranquil Voie Verte cycle route, which is right on the doorstep. We all got soaked in the rain, but it was a great excuse to light up the enormous log fire to get dried.

Perfect base for the D-Day beaches, Bayeux, fantastic Saturday morning market in Avranches, and the spa town of Bagnoles-de-l'Orne.

“Spacious and welcoming”
Reviewed 11 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We stayed here for a month, with different friends and family members coming and going each week. The space was perfect for this sort of arrangement, with plenty of room for group gatherings and an enormous table that could seat us all easily (one day we numbered 10 for a meal).

The bedrooms were a good size with fantastic cupboard space and the beds were comfortable, if somewhat squeaky. One of the en suite shower cubicles was strangely tiny - so much so that if you bent over to retrieve the soap, you inadvertently turned it off with your bottom!

The kitchen was well-equipped although some of the equipment was not fit to use: the Magimix made scary noises when switched on and had crucial bits missing and the whisks on the hand mixer wouldn't stay in place. On the plus side, there were more sharp knives than I have ever seen in a rental property, which was great.

There were a couple of significant safety issues which we reported to the caretakers who passed them on to the owners. Electrical wires from two large lamps in the sitting room had been run under the carpet to a floor socket and when we examined one that looked rather lumpy, we found that the plug was cracked and wiring exposed. An engineer in our party made the plug temporarily safe with duct tape and transferred it to a wall socket where it worked perfectly well.

The second, and more dangerous issue, was the state of the shaker-style chairs in the house. As people of more mature years, we found the narrow benches supplied for the table to be too uncomfortable, so opted to use chairs instead. We had read the note from the owners that warned about the chairs tipping backwards so were prepared to be careful but the problem turned out to be that most of the chairs were very fragile and three were actually broken. No amount of being careful would have solved that problem. One friend actually ended up on the floor when a chair collapsed under her.

I would like to mention that the caretakers were extremely helpful and responded promptly to requests for help, including advice about getting medical attention for a dental problem.

Thanks very much for your feedback. We are pleased you had a nice stay and would recommend Boudet to your friends. We have had the plug on the lamp in the sitting room fixed and are considering replacing the handmade Shaker chairs with sturdier ones.

“A fantastic location for a family holiday!”
Reviewed 9 June 2013 for a stay in August 2012

We had an amazing summer holiday in the Barn last year - a stunning conversion in a beautiful setting. The accommodation was spacious and thoughtfully equipped. There was lots of outdoor space for the children and the nearby cycle track was easily accessible. There are also lots of interesting places to visit and to eat in the surrounding area. We loved it so much we are going back again this year with our extended family!
