We stayed at Cascina del Forno in early October 2014 and the experience was delightful. The weather was very comfortable with daytime temperatures in the 60s and evening temps in the 50s. We came to the Piemonte looking for food, wine, truffles, history, architecture, art and to spend time with real Italians in the real Italy. What we found surpassed our hopes. The house itself is roomy with a fully equipped kitchen with all of the gadgets, wine glasses and equipment to suit the most serious foodie. There are extensive herb gardens, tomato vines and fruit trees on the premises of which we took full advantage. It was easy to cook great meals for ourselves because all of the local foods are fabulous. The local wines were inexpensive and delicious. We loved venturing to the local grocery stores and markets to shop and buy food.
The location of Cascina del Forno is well suited for day trips. We went one day to the Alba White Truffle Festival. It was an easy drive and an unforgettable experience. Other days we drove to Bra, the home of the Slow Food Movement, Torino, and even went to the Cinque Terra for the day. But my favorite days were simply driving to any one of the numerous castles nearby and parking the car and walking around. We met so many Italian people. They were friendly and wanted to tell us about their villages, churches and their culture. We were invited into wine cantinas and given private tours. In one town a local paid for our wine, another time a local walked us around his village to tell us about its history and acted as its ambassador. These types of experiences you cannot plan, and you cannot pay for. They just happen.
I will never forget my visit to the Piemonte. The food, the wine, the scenery, but mostly the people were unforgettable. Casina del Forno was the perfect place to stay. The trip exceeded all of my expectations! I look forward to returning one day.

Cascina del Forno is truly a gem hidden in the hills of Piedmont. We spent a week here with friends and we felt that we truly had a taste of the real Italy, away from the crowds and the well worn paths of so much of the rest of the country. Our party consisted of two couples and the layout of this home was very conducive for all of us, very private and quiet. The home is well appointed and had everything we needed. It's clear the owners put a lot of thought and care into its design and construction (restoration). The personal touches were all so creative, truly giving you the feeling that you were staying at a family home. Not over done, just enough to show that this is a well cared for, loved home. The location of the home was gorgeous. Sitting off of a very quiet road in the hills overlooking Mombercelli and the surrounding hill side communities with spectacular views of the views of the Alps in the distance when the weather permitted . There was easy access to cafés, groceries and no shortage of fabulous restaurants within a 10 minute drive; not to mention the proximity to some of the most fabulous wineries in the world. The worst part of Cascina del Forno was having to leave it!
