On my backpacker trip across NZ, The Tree House was one of my absolute favourite hostels.
All the facilities (kitchen, bath, washer etc.) are good.
The rooms are really good.
Lying in the bean bags under the skylight was amazing.
The landscape around the house is fantastic - forest, lake, hiking trail etc.
The wall clock with only one hand saying nothing but "now" was inspiring.
But in my opinion the best thing is the whole mood in the place. Everything is so relaxed and laid back, and you feel right at home straight away. I think this is very much due to the host family. We got a warm welcome and enjoyed the company during our stay.
During my trip this was the hostel we stayed at the longest. When I am returning to NZ, I will be staying there again!

Kohukohu isn't a big town. It has a small supermarket within the very small city center that's also the harbour. The backpacker's location is in the forest. Therefore it's very quiet. There are animals and you can explore trail to a the lookout to lake.

The backpackers looks like a big tree. All rooms are build by the owners and it's hard to believe how they could created such a lovely and relaxing atmosphere.

Very friendly and helpful. They offered us to get some of there vegetables when we asked
them for the next grocery storeto get some vegetables.

The whole backpackers is very clean.

Unique! nice couches and awesome seats! Good books and a lot of magazines to read.

The euqipment is very good. There is everything you will need. Also there are two big cooking areas you can use. The amount of different herbs is unique, too!!

Two NZ$ per hour and they trust you to pay the fee at the end of the stay.

The heater in our room was good and also the latest technology. This fits for the heaters in the living room, too!
