Tasteless, impersonal vulgar and expensive. The reception it's in a huge dreadful wooden tent that works at the same time as a massive cafeteria with room for 700 people, as a tacky souvenir shop and as a living room. Most of the workers (if not all) are foreigners and some of them are disguised in viking style. There are two kind of rooms: ones that have an horrendous viking furniture and the apartments, where we stood, prefab rooms with an insufficient bathroom (without cupboard and shower tray). Moreover, the food is bad, tasteless (the sandwiches and salads of the bar look and taste like plastic) and expensive. On top of that, there's no WiFi in the rooms, if you stay more than 24 hours you must pay for it and the day we arrived it wasn't working.
To sum up, it's a great example of how to destroy an idyllic landscape (it's at the foot of the Naerøfjorden and surrounded by high mountains and waterfalls). Just try to avoid it.

Bare rooms furnished with thrift store furniture. Small bath with no place to hang or set anything and only a curtain separates the shower from rest of bathroom. Poor, small selection of breakfast food that you must wait for long periods for them to replenish. Dinner choices not good. Avoid the beef.
Do take a ferry between Gudvanger and Flam or between Gudvanger and Kaupanger (either way) to enjoy the beautiful, narrow Gudvanger Fjord. Beautiful! Then drive on and stay anywhere else.

We stayed for a night at this hotel. We stayed in a Viking themed room which was pretty basic. The hotel is right beside the bus terminal and isn't particularly attractive. The room, although clean, was somewhat dated. On arrival we noticed a lot of tourist peering through the windows of the rooms. We made sure to shut the curtains! There is a huge skylight in the bedroom and this means that it is light nearly all night, so take your eye masks! It was also pretty hot in the room as there is no air conditioning. There is no wifi, either. The bathroom is large and clean. The breakfast was ample and served in the dining room right on the fjord. We took a pleasant 2 hour cruise and caught a mini bus back to the hotel from Flam. The staff was friendly and courteous when we found out that the E16 was closed due to a rock fall. They tried to assist us in making alternative arrangements. Overall, we probably would not recommend this hotel. It has potential, but is basically a stop off point for bus loads who have lunch and buy souvenirs at the shop.

Others have described this hotel well. The room we stayed in was in a seperate chalet block not the themed rooms. The room was clean and comfortable, basic but has own shower (no tv!!)
The setting is dramatic set in the end of the valley and the start point for fjord cruises. The restaurant was very good with local dishes of reindeer on the evening menu, also selection of other food like sandwiches etc available. Not particularly overpriced but the room was a bit expensive for basic but you are paying for the setting, beautiful views if the waterfalls from your window!
This is a busy place in the day with bus tours and cruise passengers but the evening was very quiet and relaxing.
Staff were excellent, helpful, friendly and English spoken by most of the staff. WiFi only available in restaurant and bar area. Ask staff for the access code.

What a surprise . We arrived expecting nothing more then your average do. A very friendly Latvian girl was at reception who checked us in and upgraded us. Recommended we dine at their premises .
The views around this hotel are Amazing . Waterfalls to the left , waterfalls to the right , Fjord front centre. Fantastic walk to Church on an abanded trail.
A la cart menu is a must for dinner. Such a surprise . Food to a very high quality taste and plentiful . Service by the Latvian girl who was earlier on reception and a Spanish top notch well trained waiter. At a price that was a steal. Well done Gunther .
Room was basic , very clean no TV no Wifi . Wifi available in main building FOC.
Breakfast was a good spread . Toaster timer broken so toast burnt. Will send them timer so as I can say it was all perfect.
Best value for money total surprise such fantastic service. Well done to all

Room Tip: Our room was basic

I was here almost on the day it opened for the season, so it was uncrowded and pleasant. Stay in the round building for the best rooms. What more can you really ask for? The most gorgeous fjord in front of you, behind towering mountains, a quaint town, giant waterfall, and a ferry which runs once a day in winter around the fjords for your own private and inexpensive tour. And you are going to complain about dark rooms? Mine had a glass ceiling so I could look up at the stars and also see the peaks of the mountains all around, glad it was "dark", and the staff were absolutely great and love their jobs. Fantastic stay.
