Restaurant was busy when we arrived. Waitress advised would be 1/2 hour wait for lunch as large group had just ordered. At all times we were kept up to date on how far away our food was from arriving. Wait was worth it as our lunch was fabulous - we will definately be back when holidaying next year.

We phoned and booked for lunch on the same day. We arrived early and the cafe wasnt overly busy - four other tables (with 2 to 6 people at each table) obviously waiting for food, and lots of vacant tables. We had purposely booked at 2pm so to avoid busy times.
We ordered and then waited over 90 minutes i.e over an hour and a half for our food. At no time did anyone ask us if we wanted more drinks, at no time did anyone apologise for the delay. At no time did anyone advise there was a delay. At no time did anyone ask us how our meal was, even when we went up to pay.

It would have been courteous to advise us that we wouldnt get lunch til after 3.30pm when we booked, or when we arrived, or even in the hour and half we were waiting.
The food was good. The breads and dips very very good. The service was totally shocking. Our meals didnt come out all at the same time and I noticed this with the other tables. I had almost finished my meal, when my daughter was starting hers. We timed one table Of 6 and it took 8minutes from the time the first meal was delivered to the table to the last meal.

The house pinot gris was very nice. The toilets in need of a clean, especially around the basin to get rid of all the cobwebs.

This makes the review very hard. I did enjoy the meal, but I wouldnt go back. We were a party of 4 and the others rated it a 2 star due to the lack of service and interest by staff. But if you were happy to drink wine and wait for hours it was a very nice meal. We didnt order tea or coffee or desert because as my daughter mentioned we had been there for 2 hours And only eaten in 10 minutes of that. Its really a 2.5 star, but Ive given it a three because it had nice tables! I am still surprised that no apology was given for the waiting though.

Thank you for your comments. We now have a new chef and a new menu, as a result the speed at which the meals are delivered has improved significantly.

We first visited this winery just after the restaurant re-opened with new owners in December 2012. At the time the wait for the delivery of food was quite unacceptable. There were only two other tables of diners that day. We put the slowness down to opening troubles.
We visited again at Labour Weekend and nothing has changed. Our order was taken at 12.25, garlic bread was servedabot 15mins later but the mains were not served until 65mins after orderin .A quite unaceptable delay, more so as the food quality was average at best. My fettucine was luke warm. Alhtough the restaurant ws busy we were the third table to order. The waiting service was personable and prompt. The owners are delightful people and the location is superb and its a great locale for children. Kitchen organisation needs addressing.

A visit to Nelson is not complete without a wine tasting and lunch at a vineyard. TripAdvisor helped us to choose Moutere HIlls as their online menu sounded delicious and the real thing certainly didn't disappoint! Our waitress (Bronwyn) was friendly and very knowledgeable helping us select a 2010 pinot gris (not our natural choice but well worth the try). The prawn and terakihi chimichanga was stunning with a huge pile of chips and a nice side salad and hubby's pork belly on agria chips was just as impressive. Although we were full after that, we couldn't resist the banoffee sundae which we shared and are keen to go home and try to emulate. We were first there so service was great for us (although it seemed the wait for some tables around us was long ...) but the setting overlooking the vineyard and lake was nice and a great way to wile way a casual afternoon. Top notch, give it a try.
