We visit New Zealand often and stay in the Nelson/Motueka area. Woollaston Estates has a wonderful summer program of live music on Sunday afternoons around twice each month. Attendees can bring along their own picnic or purchase delicious platters on site, do a tasting, buy a bottle of wine (not required) and sit in the garden to hear free live music with fantastic views. Even if it is not Sunday, and there is no live music, you can still enjoy all the rest of the list.

When we arrived for our tasting we felt a little in the way as there was another couple tasting already, and the two taste hosts were both tending to them and didn't really say anything to us - it was a little awkward. Anyway we started the tasting and it was lovely, the young man doing ours was a little unsure of answers to questions we had, but still quite knowledgeable on the wines for tasting. We sat on the lovely terrace and hid from the wind with a fab cheese platter and pinot Gris! yum!

A belated thank you for your thoughtful review. Just want to let you know that your comments were appreciated and, with the reconstruction of our Cellar Door, we have now increased the size of our tasting area to better serve our guests. Hope you can visit again and let us know what you think of the improvements! Warm Regards from Mahana, MK

The courtyard area is beautiful overlooking the vineyard and hills.
such a tranquil spot under the trees. The staff were very pleasant and professional. a gallery and wine are the main attractions and they also sell a couple of platter options or pork pie. Relaxing. No hot drinks available here so I would only recommend a visit on a beautiful sunny day to sample a platter and wine and enjoy the vista.

Dear Poppynz,

Thank you so much for your kind words about your experience at our vineyard. Just thought might let you and other know that we now are serving a full menu prepared by our in-house Chef. We now have both indoor and outdoor seating and offer great coffee and a selection of teas to keep you warm as you enjoy the views. Hope to see you again soon! Warm Regards from Mahana, MK

This is one state-of-the-art winery and gallery. It sits on a quiet hillside in Mahana. Formally,a apple orchard,it now has the best art on its walls from owners Philip and father,Toss, along with internationally renowned artists adorn the walls.
But,its the Pinot Gris and especially their Pinot Noir Rose, that had us excited. After tasting some Sav-blanc and riesling ,we were ready for their tasting platter of cheeses and charcuterie bits, whilst looking at the mountains and Tasman Bay........Where is the hammock?

So close by cycle or car to Mapua seaside village and Upper Moutere country town. Majestic views, while sipping wines in courtyard, across sculptures and grapes to Kahurangi National Park mountains or Tasman Bay. Lovely art gallery. Laid back country feel yet also smart and modern design.
