Located in the heart of the town, next to the church with parking adjacent to the hotel and alongside the road. The building appears to have been recently refurbished in a modern style, with fairly simple fixtures and fittings. It has a bar area and it own restaurant, La Citadelle.

Limited English is spoken, as I suppose they don't get many English guests, as the location is slightly off the main tourist routes.

Our room was fairly basic, but the bed was comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean.

Champtoceaux is a delightful town located on a hill above the Loire and if you have time there is an easy riverside walk. The tourist office, which is located behind the church will provide you with information.

A nice place to stop off en-route to or from the ports.

Champtoceaux is a very small town south of the Loire and there is nothing to do there but the peaceful situation makes it an ideal base from which to explore. We were made very welcome by the proprietors, Madame seemed to be everywhere! Serving breakfast, dinners, drinks...... Our room was very comfortable, fairly basic but clean, with en suite bathroom, t.v. etc. it was facing the road but there was very little traffic and road noise. The church is next door but they very considerately don't start ringing the bells until 7.30 am! Plenty of choice at breakfast, bread, pastries, croissants, yoghurts, fruit, fruit juice, cold meats, cheese...... no excuse to leave hungry. The coffee was particularly good. We ate in the hotel restaurant each night and the food was excellent, a lovely dining room with helpful staff (including Madame!). It was popular with locals which I think is a good sign as there is so much competition in the Loire region.
The hotel does not have its own car park but there was plenty of free parking nearby. Definitely recommend the Champalud if you want a quiet, peaceful haven to return to after a busy day sightseeing.

A good sized room with a good sized bathroom. The staff were helpful and friendly and we got through with a mixture of French and English. The brassiere is where you have breakfast in the morning, a standard, help yourself to breakfast cereal, croissant, viennoiserie, youghurts, fruit juice, etc. The restaurant for the evening is separate, and I thought it expensive. The cheapest menu formule is €23.50, but for main course you only have a choice of Pollock or a very French pork dish (don't unless you are into andouillette and black pudding). There are more expensive options, up to €40, if you want more choice. Turn left out of the front, go past the church and you will find the Office de Tourisme, who have a plan of the town (the hotel didn't) with two walks marked (2,5km and 4 km), The hotel does not have a car park, thought there was room for us to park for free just by the side, if that had been full the pay car park is about 100 metres.

Room Tip: The church bells are turned off at night.

Our daughter had given us a gift of a night away with "Wonderbox". We chose a night at Doulon, just over the Loire from Champtoceaux. In the evening we went to find a restaurant, though out of season, the restaurant was open, very welcoming and excellent food.

Very friendly. helpful and welcoming hotel in a quiet village overlooking the Loire. The meals were superb. An interesting area to explore by foot. Still trying to work out why the church bells sound the hours twice! (They are turned off at night)
